For more than a quarter century, Rick Bishop was part of the legendary Sun City Girls, alongside his brother Alan and drummer Charles Gocher. Their kitchen sink mix of psychedelic, surf, jazz, doggerel and styles seemingly borrowed from every corner of the globe could be heard on over 100 recordings and countless live shows. Following Gocher’s death from cancer in 2007, the Bishops disbanded the group, but neither has ceased their robust creative musical explorations and output.
Knighting himself as Sir Richard Bishop, Rick has released a string of albums showcasing his considerable skills on acoustic and electric guitar. Any given album might display his deep familiarity with jazz, old time, Indian, African and Middle Eastern forms, at times
"We always though of the Grateful Dead as being the engine that was driving the spaceship that we were traveling on."-Ken Babbs, a former Merry Prankster
Ringing in the New Year, we’ve chosen an individual who has created his own music and created interesting remixes of other songs over the course of (now) 16 years. We enjoy the twists he plays on his music and admire his efforts to take his music to live performance stage. Local to Brick Township, NJ, Brian Stewart (DJversion666) started out, born and raised, in Evansville Indiana, playing in a multitude of bands, playing bass and/or singing various genres of music. Upon moving to Nashville, he has done studio work, laying down bass tracks for commercials and advertisements. Continuing down the path of music Stewart attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He combines various genres and ties them all together with an industrial sound.
For my book talk assignment I read a realistic fiction novel named “Monster” by Walter Dean Myers.
The Grateful Dead was a famous rock and roll band throughout the 1960’s. They had a lot of ups and downs during their time as a band together. Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann were all in the band together. The Grateful Dead played a variety of music but mainly they were a rock and roll band; blues, reggae, country, folk, and space rock.
Jerry Garcia’s life was filled with wonderful things, many of which he never expected in the first place. After an almost fatal heroin overdose in 1986, “ Garcia philosophically stated, ‘ I’m 45 years old, I’m ready for anything, I didn’t even plan on living this long so all this shit is just add-on stuff.’ ” (“Garcia”) This attitude shows why Garcia did all of the things he did and even how some of them came about. Garcia, who “functioned as the preeminent pied piper of the rock era,” led a life of great artistic ability which he used in many ways(“Grateful Dead_ Rockhall”).

When he entered his teens, Holley and fellow guitarist Bob Montgomery began performing everywhere they could. (Drape) Between car lots, grocery stores, school auditoriums, skate rinks, and more; there was never a shortage of places to perform. (Drape) With a surge of new performers, people came from miles around to see the entertainment that the Hub City, Lubbock, Texas, ...
The members included Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Larry Van Kriedt, Dave Evans, and Colin Burgess. The people who wanted the most success out of them were Australia’s legendary roadie Ray Arnold and his partner Alan Kissack. The two men convinced “Chequers” entertainment manager Gene Pierson to let the band play at the popular Sydney nightclub in 1973. Colin Burgess was the first member fired, and several bassists and drummers passed through the band the next year. The Young brothers decided that Evans was not a suitable frontman for the group, because they felt he was more of a glam rocker. It was Gene Pierson who arranged for Bon Scott from “Fraternity” to join them as the lead singer. (Paul Sutcliffe, Pg. 34, P.2)
Anyone that had a guitar, little Robert would follow off according to his mother. "Sometimes he wouldn’t come home," Robert’s mother recalls, "and a whippin never did him no good." Mrs. Johnson feared the worst for Robert, she believed the guitar was the instrument of the devil and that the music he listened to was full of sin. Robert would ease her worries by playing church songs to her, yet this never erased the fear she held inside for her son.
Rick Martin is an odd example of an old-time fiddle player who grew up within the Appalachia region who never actually encounter old-time music until he was a student at Indiana University in Bloomington. And through the magic of music Rick’s life was transformed when he first heard Appalachian Music, having being from the region he felt a strong desire to connect to his roots. He found an “insider” of Appalachian Music who was trained by Tommy Jarrell. And so little Rick’s life became as an Appalachian Musician, culturally accepted as an “insider” but when asked he does care nor considers himself an “insider.” It’s people like this in my opinion that do not help people who are trying to define “insiders” and “outsiders” of Appalachian Music. Rick does not sing that I am aware of, he only plays fiddle tunes, and his “Field Recordings” from Mt. Airy sound the same as the rest of the fiddle tunes from
The mob of white people trying to attack Richard in the corner of the paper. This represents the racial oppression that Wright and other black people had to face. The building represents where the white people live, a much better place than the African Americans. The building is on fire because of all the riots that took place during that time period. I drew the white people with all the weapons much bigger than Richard because that represents how much social and political the white people have rather than the African American society during that time period. Also, the clothes that the white people have are much nicer and don’t have tears because they have the money to afford nice clothing. But Wright on the other hand is poor so he has to
Many manufactures began making electric bass guitars in the 1960s due to the explosion of rock music. The Fender Jazz Bass, also known as the Deluxe Bass,...
frequently worked with jazz bands which, in contrast to the greater isolation of the male country blues singers, provided a visible display of togetherness. For the new and struggling migrants desperately trying to create a new community in the cities, the singer and the band represented a shared communal feeling (http://www.
This report is about Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the rock band Queen. I’m sure that “We Will Rock You” with this biographical narrative.
Reason to listen: The guitar is an instrument that can be heard in all types of music, it would be nice to know some information about the guitar.
