It’s a common belief that Aanything worth doing, is worth doing well. you can do well is often deemed to be worth doing. Leider states that this kind of belief can lead you in the wrong direction because finding your gift is only one part of the journey to fulfillment. A strength cannot can’t produce meaning if you do don’t not believe in the any reasons for utilizing it. This is why it’s is equally important to ask what actions you deem valuable? . What sparks genuine enthusiasm from you? What moves you? In addition to examining your interests, this The Power of Purpose book suggests that you consider any time you achieve a state of “flow” in your life as a possible indicator of your true purpose. He The author urges you look for those moments when you’re are so passionate that you lose yourself in the task at hand. Instead of planning what you should do, reflect on what you’ve have already done. How have your past experiences made you feel? Is there anything that you’ve have done that you love doing just for its own sake? Does that passion allow you to give back to society in any meaningful way? Reaping the
According to Wolf, all meaningful lives have both a subjective and an objective aspect to them. These basics can make lives important only together. The general idea is that a person’s projects and activities in the end make his or her life meaningful,
"People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive...." Joseph Campbell made this comment on the search for meaning common to every man's life. His statement implies that what we seem bent on finding is that higher spark for which we would all be willing to live or die; we look for some key equation through which we might tie all of the experiences of our life and feel the satisfaction of action toward a goal, rather than the emptiness which sometimes consumes the activities of our existence. He states, however, that we will never find some great pure meaning behind everything, because there is none. What there is to be found, however, is the life itself. We seek to find meaning so that emptiness will not pervade our every thought, our every deed, with the coldness of reality as the unemotional eye chooses to see it. Without color, without joy, without future, reality untouched by hope is an icy thing to view; we have no desire to see it that way. We forget, however, that the higher meaning might be found in existence itself. The joy of life and the experience of living are what make up true meaning, as the swirl of atoms guided by chaotic chance in which we find our existence has no meaning outside itself.
Again, I believe Taylor is missing some important feature to his theory. It seems he is correct in stating one should have their own sense of meaning to their life not just others’ perception that one’s life is meaningful. However, there is still the problem of giving equal meaning to everyone life that is doing what they love to do. As a result, to answer this problem one could suggest in order for one to have a meaningful life a person must be subjectively fulfilled by pursuing objectively valuable ends. This way it ensures the person must find meaning in their own lives as well as creating something that benefits many that will give others the perception the person has a meaningful life.
Finding a meaning to life and to nature is something all people try to do, but is there really a correct answer? Maybe the purpose to life is actually finding the purpose to life, or it might just be to enjoy living and all the experiences that come with it. Douglas Adams, the author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, brings this up in his novel. Throughout the book, the theme nature and its meaning is shown through the knowledge that the main character accumulates.
...following through with my commitments. I know I struggle sometimes with following through with commitments but I remind myself of the importance of being a trustworthy person. I focus on expressing gratitude, because I realize the significance in my life. I express gratitude because I know everything existing in my life is without reason. Integrity becomes an important value in my life, simply because I know my credibility is on the line. Working in an environment where integrity is sometimes forgotten, my duty becomes exemplifying integrity with everyone I meet. My purpose becomes a reality in my life as I am continually seeing the positivity in things concerning my life. My life purpose statement, “I am the geyser so that people spew out positivity to those around them.”
“Objection, evasion, joyous distrust, and love of irony are signs of health; everything absolute belongs to pathology.” (Nietzsche 1886) This quote from Beyond Good and Evil, is an example of existentialist purpose, since he is listing parts of life, some of witch can be considered purpose to life, and the consider it a disease, as if he has no purpose. I somewhat agree, because I don’t understand the point in life,¬¬–– there is no point is there. I guess the purpose of living is the everyday family, friends, and trying best to be happy or to make everyone who’s around happy. To be completely honest I’m not sure if there is a purpose, I would think that the main purpose for humankind is to function normally for society. This way we can all insure the well being of others and to keep others alive and well. I would say living in harmony with others would be my purpose. I will know that I have fulfilled my purpose when those around me are happy and at
The meaning of life is to find the meaning of life. Is it not? We all go through each day trying to figure out which road out the infinite amount of paths will lead us in a better direction where happiness is prominent and society is flawless. However, not every single human being is going to fit on that narrow, one-lane highway to success. Bad choices, accidents, fate, family matters, society, temptation, anger, rage, addiction, and loss of hope can all be deciding factors in opting to choose that wrong path to self-destruction. The adverse thing is, once you've traveled so far down the road, you get so discouraged that you feel like you can never turn back or make up for the "lost time."
The irony connected with the obstacle in achieving happiness is the pursuit of happiness. Those who pursue happiness with deliberate effort find themselves having to work harder and harder over time to achieve their ends. By trying to pursue happiness, we look for obvious, insubstantial objectives to achieve the happy life. Existentialism, however, may provide both the antidote to this vicious cycle, and give direction on how to find happiness-- by filling our lives with what T.S. Eliot calls real substance. Purpose is not easily found and comes with a costly price tag; we must look into ourselves, find the hollowness that exists in each of us, and dive into the abyss of our inner self. Most people are easily discouraged by the idea of shining a light into the shadowy realm of our mind and heart. We do not want to discover what may lie in the shadows, but if we have the courage to grope in the dark, we may discover our truest self. The darkness is a gift and not a curse.
When comparing a meaning of life text (“The Death of Ivan Ilych”) to examples of popular culture (Batman Begins and Batman Beyond), it can be determined that when one finds meaning in life, it is the climax of that individual’s life. Also, everyone finds his or her purpose in life at different times, or not at all. More importantly, there is a strive to find meaning in life, and it is up to the individual to find what his or hers is.
“Life is a balanced system of learning, adjusting, and evolving. Whether pleasure or pain; every situation in your life serves a purpose. It is up to us to recognize what that purpose could be.” - Dr. Steve Maraboli
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
