Bright lights, flashes going off, beautiful and famous people everywhere, creative set designs, and everyone working to make the photo shoot perfect. This was the life of famous Richard Avedon. Avedon is one of the most successful photographers of the 20th Century. He is known for his fashion, advertising, exhibitions and book photographs that he has done.
Richard Avedon was born in 1923, in New York City. Avedon attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He never completed his high school career, and in 1942 Avedon joined the U.S. Merchant Marine Photographic Department. When he returned he joined the Design Laboratory taught at The New School by famous art teacher Alexey Brodovitch. Through this class he started to become well known for his stylistically fashion work that often took place in exotic and vivid locations. Avedon was married in 1944 to Dorcas Nowell, a model known professionally as Doe Avedon. They divorced after five years. In 1951, he married Evelyn Franklin. The pair later separated. In 1945 his photography career began.
He began his career in fashion photography in 1945 with Harper's Bazaar, switching to Vogue magazine in 1966. Richard Morris Hunt was an American architect born in 1827. Hunt was born in Brattleboro, Vermont. His dad was a lawyer and US congressman, so their family had lots of money. He first attended Boston Latin School, and then in 1943 when his father died, he traveled to Europe to study art and architecture. In 1846 he would become the first American to attend the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, the finest architecture school in the world. He finally settled in New York in 1855, where he made it his goal to raise the standard of design.

He wore a white button up shirt with black dress pants, a tie, and spotlessly clean shoes. His face lit up as he was looking through the pictures he just took. He faced his camera screen towards me. On the screen I saw silhouettes of people and sailboats with their reflection glistening on the water, as if it was a mirror. After viewing his photographs, you could tell that Paris has a very unique perspective on the world.
Beaton took his inspiration from the most successful magazine photographers of the 1910’s and 1920’s including E.O. Hoppe, Edward Steichen and Baron de Meyer (Victoria & Albert Museum, 2010). Vogue published its first portrait by Beaton in 1928 (Harrison, 1987). It was his exhibition in London that won him this contract that later led much of his work to appear in the magazine. He went on to work with Vogue for over fifty years with both the American and British editions (Patrick, 2009).

Crooked Beak of Heaven Mask is a big bird-figure mask from late nineteenth century made by Kwakwaka’wakw tribe. Black is a broad color over the entire mask. Red and white are used partially around its eyes, mouth, nose, and beak. Its beak and mouth are made to be opened, and this leads us to the important fact in both formal analysis and historical or cultural understanding: Transformation theme. Keeping that in mind, I would like to state formal analysis that I concluded from the artwork itself without connecting to cultural background. Then I would go further analysis relating artistic features to social, historical, and cultural background and figure out what this art meant to those people.
John Mahtesian's photography offers a visual poetry of the human condition. It is a direct expression of his warmth, depth of spirit, and humanity. A true gentleman, extremely humble and unfailingly polite, he achieves an invisibility that is the success of his art. His patience and commitment to his vision allow him to capture moments others could not. If his subjects are aware of his presence, his gentle nature so enchants them that they are unguarded and their essence is revealed. So compelling are his images that we are truly convinced his insights are our own. They make us rejoice in the world around us, and in the nature of human existence.
Richard Estes was born on May 14, 1932, in Kewanee, IL. Although still living, his legacy lies in his precise detail and invisible brushwork. Estes studied Fine Art at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Masters. With his small hand camera he unobtrusively photographed people’s lives around the world. He was solely responsible for bridging the gap between photojournalism and art. He has published more than a dozen books of his work. The greatest museums in the world have shown his work.
His style of photographs were not what people were normally used to seeing. The fashion photographers of the 1930’s and 40’s followed the Art Deco tradition of photography where the models stood still, posing like statues, and with serious faces. He wanted his pictures to show movement, not only of the models, but also of the clothing and their facial expressions. He moved around the models as he photographed them, giving even more emphasis on movement in the pictures. The clothing the models wore was usually in motion, showing flowing fabric and flowing hair.
In poetry, the use of allusions is very common. There are briefs, usually indirect references to another work or to real or historical events or persons, traditionally as a way of connecting those elements as well as enriching the meaning of the current work through associations with the other. In his poem "Musee des Beaux Arts", W.H. Auden uses allusions as a way of drawing connections between his poem, Peter Brueghel's painting " The Fall of Icarus", the myth, and the humanity indifference toward one's suffering.
Norman Parkinson’s photograph of a woman in a black coat, green hat, and white gloves became the Vogue Cover in 1949. The garment emphasizes the silhouette and thin female waist. Restricted colors predominate in the palette; only small elements of the costume remain bright and colorful. By shooting the photography, Norman Parkinson took women out into the real world, pioneering “action realism,” a photographic style that exists to this day (Baring). In the background, the lively street with two more women in black is captured in the photograph.

The relationship between art and society in the works of Plato is based upon his idea of the world of eternal Forms. He believed that there is a world of eternal, absolute and immutable Forms (the world of the Ideal) and thought that this is proven by when man is faced with the appearance of anything in the material world, his mind is moved to a remembrance of the Idea or an absolute and immutable version of the thing he sees.

In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
