“The world is made up of two classes the hunters and the huntees” (2). Rainsford believes the people are either aggressive or passive. The aggressive people succeed and survive. On the other hand, the passive people are more accepting and allowing. “The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell, the author, Rainsford and General Zaroff are both aggressive people in the story. Rainsford becomes trapped on Ship Trap Island and meets a man named General Zaroff that hunts humans, he stayed alive by killing General Zaroff.
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford is clever and determined. While running from General Zaroff, he makes several traps.
“He stopped where a huge tree leans precariously on a smaller,
living one throwing] off his sack of food, Rainsford took his knife from its sheath and began to work with all his energy.” He is not just going to be a huntee: he is going to try to be the hunter; not everyone could have a trap like Rainford's can. Showing he is very clever he was no longer was running, he began to work with all of his energy,” that would be showing the determination. General Zaroff is an equally as strong as Rainsford in this short story “Most Dangerous Game”.General Zaroff is characterized as an intelligent, dangerous man, “I read all hunting books published in English, French, and in Russian’’(7). This quote is showing his intelligence by saying he can read in three different languages. When reading you this story will understand that you need to be motivated to keep pushing through. Rainsford got trapped on an island, then he meets a man called General Zaroff, became friends with General Zaroff and Zaroff started hunting Rainsford as a game Rainsford ended up killing General Zaroff to stay alive. Connell, the author is a great author because he changed the plot using Rainsford and General Zaroff for the main characters. Rainsford and General Zaroff was both equally strong characters because the impact and drama in the story.
In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht that crashed and he was the only survivor. The island that he swam to was named “Ship Trap Island.” This where General Zaroff lived. He is also a hunter. He has hunted anything you can think of. Even… people. He has the survivors from the ship wrecks “play” his “game.” The survivors go out into the jungle and General Zaroff goes out and finds them. They have three days to survive. If they don’t get caught in those three days, they win. If they lose… they are killed. This happened to Rainsford. Rainsford, thankfully, won the “game.” He shot General Zaroff after his win.
The most dangerous game began as a sport for one man. His name is Sanger Rainsford. In Richard Connell’s story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Sanger Rainsford, an avid hunter, is lost at sea, stranded on “Ship-Trap” Island-every sailor’s worst nightmare. Rainsford goes through a series of events that prove to be life-altering. Even though Sanger Rainsford went through many trials and tribulations, he never lost his intelligence, composure, or his bravery.

Both of which are hunters who in the story play a “game” invented by General Zaroff out of pure fear of becoming bored of the hunt. General Zaroff is a big fan of the hunt and everything he says about the hunt is to be taken serious. Rainsford and General Zaroff are described to be excellent hunters through the traps Rainsford makes, all the big game Zaroff has hunted, but Zaroff is better at hunting through the fact that the hunt has began to bore and he needs more of a challenge hunting humans.
In the book Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer wrote about Christopher McCandless, a nature lover in search for independence, in a mysterious and hopeful experience. Even though Krakauer tells us McCandless was going to die from the beginning, he still gave him a chance for survival. As a reader I wanted McCandless to survive. In Into the Wild, Krakauer gave McCandless a unique perspective. He was a smart and unique person that wanted to be completely free from society. Krakauer included comments from people that said McCandless was crazy, and his death was his own mistake. However, Krakauer is able to make him seem like a brave person. The connections between other hikers and himself helped in the explanation of McCandless’s rational actions. Krakauer is able to make McCandless look like a normal person, but unique from this generation. In order for Krakauer to make Christopher McCandless not look like a crazy person, but a special person, I will analyze the persuading style that Krakauer used in Into the Wild that made us believe McCandless was a regular young adult.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the protagonist, Rainsford, is a smart, clever, resilient man who keeps a cool head in stressful and dangerous situations. Rainsford is not allowed to leave the island he washes up on after he falls off the yacht he was traveling on, because the mentally disturbed general wants to hunt people with Rainsford. Rainsford makes a deal with the general to win his freedom. If Rainsford can evade Zaroff for three nights, then Rainsford is free to leave the island. During Rainsfords journey to and through the island of General Zaroff he partakes in an adventurous journey filled with mystery, suspense, and dilemma. Chief Red Jacket uses a variety of techniques in rhetoric in his quote to the “white men.” When he starts out by saying, “brother” he establishes a close relationship by showing respect to the white men. Moving on, the next two sentences both start out with “you say that you are…,” which shows the technique of parallelism and repetition. What he did there really pushes his point forward and makes his point, if you will, “sticky.” In the second sentence, he uses, “Great spirit,” instead of the White men's God. By doing this he makes the White men understand that his people and he will not accept the white men's religion. In the story The Most Dangerous Game a character named General Zaroff has a passion for hunting. He has been hunting since he was born. He has hunted every animal known to man, but, then he gets tried of hunting the same animal over and over. So he discovers a new animal human flesh. General Zaroff is person of bad character because he is cruel, cowardly, and untrustworthy.

Hellhounds are said to protect the supernatural. For example, they may hunt down wandering ghosts, or even protect a supernatural treasure. The hounds in “The Most Dangerous Game” are very ferocious and are relentless, just like the hellhounds of the underworld. The hounds in the story are used for when General Zaroff can not find the prey. When they are being hunted and are almost to the point of winning the game, that is when the hounds come out and hunt down the prey. Both types of hounds hunt down the lost souls that are trying to escape, or the ones running for their lives. The sea and jungle are major forms of symbolism in the story. “This island is called Ship Trap.” General Zaroff stated. He also said, “They indicate a channel, where there’s none; giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide-open jaws.
