44th President, Barack Obama, in his 2009 Inauguration speech, addresses the nation with his plans for change. Obama explicitly states that the world is in crisis and as a nation, “we” have tough choices and sacrifices to make. He creates an inspirational tone in order to appeal to the citizens of the United States to support him in making the necessary changes by using pathos, logos, and ethos. Obama begins his speech by thanking the nation and former President Bush for allowing him to stand in office. He moves to acknowledging that the American people will need to make great sacrifices in order to overcome the economic crisis that they currently face. He appeals to the emotions of the audience by painting a bleak picture of the current status
