Afterwards, she understood why he hated her after she prevented him from playing the stock market when their stock would increase on stanza 3, additionally demonstrating the equity between them. Moreover, proof of their equity is further shown through their dedication. “I put on eyeliner and a concerto and make pungent observations about the great / issues of the day / Even when there’s no one here but him,” shows the wife’s efforts for the husband. The husband’s dedication is revealed on stanza 2 when she asks “If his mother and I was drowning and / he had to choose one of us to save, / He says he’d save me.” A relationship deprived of equity would be illustrated in “The Chaser”. The love potion described by John Collier will cause the drinker to “want to know all you do” (Page 200) and “want to be everything to you” (Page 200). “Then the customers come back, later in life, when they are better off, and want more expensive things” (Page 201) imply many of his customer’s return for the poison. This suggests that many of the relationships will be unable to develop beyond a certain point after buying the “love
Describing a house, a tree, or even opening a package are all very good times to use imagery to convey an image that readers can visualize in their minds. “Built of cinder blocks and was painted shocking pink. The principal tree on the place was a tall power pole sprouting transformers; it stood a few feet from the canal and threw a pleasant shade across the drive.” This example of visual imagery helps to visualize the surroundings that the writing piece takes place. Describing a main item in the story or essay is another good use for visual imagery. “The pot was handsome, and the tree looked like a miniature version of the classic oasis scene in the desert. When the plant was delivered, a small chameleon arrived with it and soon made the living
Prompt #3: “Most often, literary works have both internal conflict (individual v. self) and external conflict (individual v. individual, society, nature, or technology)”.

Women’s rights pioneer, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, in her speech, The Destructive Male, expresses her feelings about Women's suffrage in 1868, and brought to light the misconception that women are not equal to man and imply that men bring more destruction than restoration.
After reading the entire play, the reader can safely say that fate works in mysterious ways. To love and be loved in return is considered by many to be one of the greatest gifts a human being can receive. At the same time, it is thought of as unbearable to love someone you cannot be with. Especially when the reasoning behind limitations is cau...
Love: a small, four-lettered word that oozes with possibility. What is love? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines love as “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.” However, can love really be defined? In the short story “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love,” by Raymond Carver, the four main characters discuss just that: what is love? Terri, in particular, has a unique perspective on love. This is exemplified in the beginning of the story, when Terri is introduced: “Terri said the main she lived with before she lived with Mel loved her so much he tried to kill her,” (Carver 170). Terri’s dominant impression is that she is an easily influenced and manipulated character that is the most convinced and clear about
The first lyrics that I’ve chosen is from the pop song “Stereo Love.” It was released in 2009, by Romanian DJ Edward Maya, ft Vika Jigulina. The words that carry the most importance and reoccur are love and heart. Stereo love is a love and dance song, and it’s extremely upbeat and emotional. Due to these reasons, the words heart and love carry much importance. The word order could be taken as very ordinary, however the phrases are unexpected. Despite the song being in english, it’s not english native which makes the word choice very different and interested. For example, the lyrics in some lines are, “I need you more than air when I'm not with you”, and “Can you get to my thought?” The song doesn’t use conventional syntax, which in return makes the lyrics more addictive along with the music. The lines “your smile is a beautiful lie” and “I can fix all those lies” contain irony and personification in a way. How can a smile be a lie? And how can one fix lies? These questions could pop up if one was studying the lyrics of these particular song. However, the listeners pay less attention to the lyrics and just enjoy whatever the lyrics contain. The imagery in the lyrics is also used in a very creative way. The imagery in the song includes human interaction. Some examples of the imagery from the song would be, “my heart is in pain but I'm smiling for you”, and “when I see you baby, I just don't want to let go.”
Overall, “Love” is about death and the students love for their teacher, even though it is not what it is played out to be. Maxwell demonstrates this through his tone, point of view, word choice, and sentence structure, in which coordinates with the overall theme of death. He uses his sentence structure to show the perspective of a fifth grade student. In addition, he also uses short descriptive sentences to show how a fifth grade student would tell a story. Maxwell also uses specific word choice that adds detail to his short sentences, in order to foreshadow Miss. Vera Brown’s Death. Each of these formal features helps shape his essay around the theme death, in which involves close attention in order to understand
Love is an intangible element, yet in “The Chaser” love can be bought for a dollar. "Oh, that," said the old man, opening the drawer in the kitchen table, and taking out a tiny, rather dirty-looking phial. "That is just a dollar." Yet, the old man refers to the “love-potion” as something that is insignificant, the readers can also infer that the “love potion” is insignificant by the “dirty-looking phial” it comes in. This significant information, displays love can be bought cheaply, but the readers can also infer that the love you receive from the “love-potion” is something people wouldn’t want, due to the customers returning and buying the “life-cleaner” when they are tired of the love they receive from the potion. In the end, this dark theme helps us realized that love is something recieved naturally and not something that can be received from a third-party
At face front, skinny love can be explicitly viewed as a song about anorexia and mental illness. This could be assumed due to its title and often repeated lyrics “skinny love” like they are in love with being skinny or some sort of illness. Skinny love, although contrary to popular belief is actually an implicit metaphor for a poor or destructive relationship, suffering, and withering. It's about love gone sour, and a relationship where the love has faded and the relationship is weak. However, I believe the proper term should be “anorexic love” because he is trying to inject all the love he can into the relationship, but it seems as if she keeps rejecting it and letting the love waste away.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
Love has been the cause of some of the greatest feats, discoveries, and battles in the history of man. It has driven men to insanity and despair, while it has lead others to happiness and bliss. This idea that love has a strong influence on man’s decisions can be seen in the poem, “Love is not all” by Edna St. Vincent Millay. The most prominent theme presented in “Love is not all” is that although love is not a necessity of life, it somehow manages to provoke such great desire and happiness that it becomes important.
Many people have different perspectives when it comes to the topic of love. The word love has been tossed around by everybody and not very many people really understand the true meaning of love. There are some exceptions, but I think this is especially true for teenagers and young adults. I might be one of those people who do not fully understand the topic of love, but I hope to better understand the topic of love and its true meaning is this course.
What is love? Love is a very special and meaningful word to each human being. Each human being has his/her own thoughts about love to guide himself/herself to land safely and smoothly into the kingdom of Love. Without this preconceived idea of love, people would be acting like a blind person searching for the light with thousand of obstacles in front of him.
