Rhetorical Analysis Of Illegal Immigration

FFF emerged due to the fact that illegal immigration has been growing in America during the last couple of years. Therefore, one of the strongest rhetorical appeals used by Figure 2 is Kairos because it is relevant to what America is currently experiencing regarding immigration. The photograph was taken at the 770 Broadway building in Manhattan, New York. In fact, according to Vornado Realty, this building serves as the headquarters for companies such as Facebook, The Huffington Post and AOL, among others. Moreover, the photograph was taken in May 2013 when the Gang of 8 Bill was negotiating the new immigration reform that, at the time, would totally change the lives of immigrants in America because it would increase deportations. Donnely claims in her “Considering Audience, Purpose, and Genre” article, the people in the picture had a specific purpose which was to protest at a place where big media companies have their headquarters so that they could easily make news of what was going on (33). Also, it was taken at the exact time when the Gang of 8 Bill were drafting the new immigration policies (Budoff). Furthermore, this figure also uses Logos because the people in the picture have both a reason to protest (Gang of 8 Bill affects their status as immigrants in America) and an evidence (as mentioned before, the increasing number of deportations of parents of U.S. born citizens). Thus, this figure relates to FFF’s goals because it unites and brings people together at the right time and place to fight for changes in immigration policies that reduce deportations in order to keep families together.
