Rhetorical Analysis Of Carly Fiorina

A self-made woman who worked her way to the top being the only woman to lead a 50 Fortune Company Hewlett-Packard, Carly Fiorina is an American Presidential candidate for the 2016 elections. Although there are some speculations of Carly’s time at Hewlett-Packard under her supervision the company grew to become the eleventh largest company in America. At the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Fiorina delivered an impressive well articulate speech focusing on issues such as the next Presidents need to reestablish leadership and foreign affairs.

On July 27, 2015 Republican Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina delivered a speech where she addressed the issue that the next President of the United States must reestablish American leadership. Presidential

candidate Carly Fiorina’s first claim states that the world is in dire need of American leadership. Fiorina uses the fact that President Obama and Secretary Clinton speak in terms of ambivalence, shades of grey, offer false choices and even raise a shadow of doubt for U.S. citizens, as unestablished American leadership. While listening to Fiorina’s speech I felt a sense of disappointment toward President Obama and Presidential candidate Clinton for their secrecy. Presidential candidate Fiorina claims the next president must reestablish leadership, she also claims the world is a more dangerous place when America is not leading. To support her second claim Fiorina uses logic by mentioning terrorist are on the rise, almost 45,000 people are driven from their homes daily, U.S. soldiers murdered by radicalized terrorist, the expansion of human trafficking, persecuted Christians, women are denied their rights, girls live in fear and Boko Haram continues on murderous rampage. When Fiorina mentions how U.S. citizens’ tweet “save our girls” and so little changes I feel anger and gilt because the U.S. continues to just stand by.

Fiorina claims China is using their economic powers to rewrite the global order. Fiorina argues that China is the world’s largest purchaser of oil, they loan money to developing nations in exchange for natural resources, and they have built a rival international banking system to the World Bank. Upon hearing these statements I felt fear of China’s capability. Claiming China plans to rewrite global order Fiorina also claims the U.S. has received threats from China. Fiorina uses data such as China engaging in rigorous internet censorship like the Iranians and Russians, stealing U.S. intellectual property, attacks in cyberterrorism, stealing private information from 20 million Americans. Fiorina states that “As Reagan once torn down a physical wall, we must tear down these cyber-barriers to the free exchange of information.” Listening to Fiorina state already 20 million Americans have fallen victim to China’s threats, I felt disappointment that the government has failed to protect citizens against cyberterrorism. I also felt pride and hope when Fiorina mentioned like Reagan took down a physical wall there is still a chance to tear down the cyber-barriers put up by

China.
With such convincing evidence I agree with both of Fiorina’s issues. The new president must reestablish leadership and foreign affairs must not be taken lightly. Claiming the world is in dire need of American leadership and it’s a dangerous world when America is not leading is a well-rounded argument that certainly caught my attention. The arguments she used for her second issue on foreign affairs, China changing the global order and threating the U.S. were scary enough to convince me she is right when she says “China is our rising adversary.”
The speech Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina delivered at the Ronald Reagan Library discussing the need for reestablishment and foreign affairs was very well expressed. I do not agree with everything that Fiorina stands for but all in all she is well aware of foreign affairs and seems to be certain that she is well qualified for the job. Over all a strong candidate and proven to be a force not to recon with, but when the time comes sadly she will not be the candidate I will vote for.
