During the Revolutionary War, the first cavalry was established. For example in 1775, Paul Revere rode his horse through the night to alert the American settlers the British army was coming. The cavalry consisted of men who rode horses. The advantage of using the cavalry is that they could cover more miles, in a shorter period of time. The horses were not always treated with the best of care. The cavalry had several impacts on past wars.
The cavalry was used in many wars in the past. One of the first wars that the cavalry was used in was the Revolutionary War when the American settlers and the British went to war with each other (Carney 1). So after awhile technology had improved and the use of the cavalry was decreased little by little. Jeeps, helicopters and planes were being made and improved which took over the spot of the cavalry. The effect of this is that even though those horses can cover more miles than a footed soldier, these jeeps and planes and helicopter cover 10x more land. The improvement of technology wiped out most of the cavalry units and the soldiers were all transported and trained to use the planes, jeep, and helicopter like in the Vietnam War. Now horses are just used in parades and other things like horse shows or horse racing. Even though that technology had been improved the horses should not of been taken out of the military because they are not as strong and tanks trucks and planes but the footed soldiers should not have to walk while people in vehicles get there faster. It isn’t always easy to get the vehicles in small areas but horses can so they should of kept some of the cavalry
