Review of the film The Weather Underground
The film The Weather Underground was a great way to educate the population about a part of history not many people know about. The film was a documentary by Sam Green and Bill Siegle. The directors used many strategies and elements to make the film effective for the purpose of a documentary, which would be to inform their audience. They used elements like flashbacks of images and news reports, and interviews from now and then along with audio to accomplish their task. They strategically arranged the placement of all of these elements to bring out the viewers emotions and draw them into the piece.
The documentary on The Weather Underground is about a part of the United States history that not many young adult Americans know about. It showed the events that occurred in the 1960s and 1970s that effected how people thought. Some people even called it a revolution. It all started with a group of college students in an organization named Students for a Democratic Society. There were colleges all over the United States with this student organization. The Vietnam War and unequal rights of African American people were the main part of the student organizations concerns. They wanted change in the United States government policies and the only way they saw that happening was to overthrow the United States government. At first the group was for a peaceful protest for their causes. When the Students for a Democratic Society realized that nonviolent tactics were not working several students formed the Weather Underground group and went into hiding. The group would place bombs in planned locations. Then set them off in protest against events or actions the government was involved with. The bombs were not detonated to kill or to injure people, but to get a point across that policies within the United States Government needed to change. The group would make sure someone was notified well ahead of the time the bomb was to detonate so that people could be evacuated from the buildings or areas. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was watching the group throughout its existence. They would use illegal tactics to try and catch the Weather Underground but they failed to complete their task. Finally, the group started to dissemble in 1975 after the war in Vietnam ended, since the War was their main focus they had little to protest against.
The Seven Five is a documentary that frivolously reexamines the crimes of Officer Michael Dowd and his team of dirty cops. Dowd is a former New York police officer who was stationed in the 75th Precinct in Eastern New York. The film presents the nefarious deeds of these officers via original interviews with Dowd and his former comrades as they recount their crimes and explain the reasoning behind their unethical behaviors. While working as a cop, he embellished his income through criminal exploits which include stealing guns, drugs, money, and eventually he began working in drug rings selling cocaine. Dowd’s felonious activities were extremely lucrative and earned him approximately $4,000 a week. Dowd was eventually arrested in 1992,
The Perfect Storm is a novel written by Sebastian Junger, that retells the horrific story of fishermen and sailors who were caught in the eye of the worst storm in history. The book mainly focuses on the Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat, with a crew of 6 men, who disappeared without a trace deep into the northern atlantic sea. In the year 2000, almost 10 years after the tragic event took place, a motion picture, perfectly titled, The Perfect Storm which was based on the novel was released. There were subtle to few changes in the plot line of the story, however there were many differences among the book and movie. The movie is very intact with the plot and is very based on the real story behind it. I believe the creator of the movie wanted, to whatever extent possible, recreate the events that happened in the storm as factual and according to the book itself. The movie, however, left out a tremendous amount of rich details that were a part of the book , such as varying kinds of information and direct quotes from people who were associated with the storm. The movie instead added more events to the story that weren`t in the book, to add more depth to the movie and to make it more enjoyable.
...suppression, and incarceration. That ended up costing American an estimated 10,000 jobs. The government had complete control over the media, educational system, and any literature that was available. Books were illegal, and were burned in the novel by the government enforcers, the firemen. We saw the comparison with the time period in when the novel was written, and post September 11. It is great how the author's work still has great meaning in today's society.
Throughout the film, the filmmaker follows the three victims around in their everyday lives by using somber music and backgrounds of depressing colors. The documentary starts off with colorful images of the scenery
In The Way To Rainy Mountain, the author N. Scott Momaday makes a clear use of figurative language throughout the story and descriptive language to describe the nature around them, explains their myths about how their tribe came to be a part of nature, as well as the importance in nature that are a part of the Sundance festival and the tai-me.
This shows us how white people thought of African Americans as inferior, and they just wanted to dominate the society making no place for other races to express themselves. Even though African Americans were citizens of the state of Mississippi they were still discriminated against. This documentary does a great job of showing us the suffering of these people in hopes to remind everyone, especially the government, to not make the same mistakes and discriminate against citizens no matter what their race is because this will only cause a division to our nation when everyone should be
Many of the scenes are filmed in front of a camera as the "filmmakers" pose and answer questions regarding their research before it transitions into their story outside of the film-making process. The Conspiracy is a mockumentary but doesn't necessarily make fun of the documentary process as other mockumentaries do, and neither does The Watermelon Woman. Both of these films, The Watermelon Woman and The Conspiracy, allow for easy understanding from any type of audience, and they both offer plots and storytelling-patterns that flow in ways able to be comprehended by any type of
Since the original publishing of Brave New World, the book has stirred up a brew of controversy. It has received many reviews both positive and negative. In this paper I will provide examples of both and look at the reasons behind them.
Schindler's List, by Steven Spielberg is an award-winning masterpiece - a movie which portrays the shocking and nightmarish holocaust in a three-hour long epic. The documentary touch re-creates a dark, frightening period during World War II, when Jews in Nazi-occupied Krakow were first deprived off , of their businesses and homes, then placed in ghettos and were then forced to labor for no consideration in camps in Plaszow, and finally they were resettled in concentration camps for execution. The violence and brutality of Nazi’s treatment towards Jews is a series of horrific incidents that are brilliantly showcased.
Into the Wild, a novel written by Jon Krakauer, as well as a film directed by Sean Penn, talks about Chris McCandless, a young individual who set out on a journey throughout the Western United States, isolating himself from society, and more importantly, his family. During his travels, he meets a lot of different people, that in a way, change his ways about how he sees the world. There are many characteristics to describe McCandless, such as “naïve”, “adventurous”, and “independent”. In the book, Krakauer described McCandless as “intelligent”, using parts in his book that show McCandless being “intelligent”. While Krakauer thinks of McCandless as being “intelligent”, Penn thinks of McCandless as a more “saintly” type of person.
Sex, love, depression, guilt, trust, all are topics presented in this remarkably well written and performed drama. The Flick, a 2014 Pulitzer Prize winning drama by Annie Baker, serves to provide a social commentary which will leave the audience deep in thought well after the curtain closes. Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.
In the later part of the 20th century, various factions employed urban guerrilla tactics cited in Marighella’s book. The Weather Underground Organization, generally known as the Weather Underground or Weathermen attacked government buildings and banking institutions in the United States. Their goal was to overthrow the U.S. government.
Throughout history women have pioneered their way into occupations that were once occupied solely by men. Not surprisingly, many achievements have come from women challenging and stepping out of their expected social roles. Today most women are free to voice their opinion and express themselves in every aspect of their lives, including their marriage. It was not long ago when women were deprived of this freedoms. ...successful collaboration of sound, colour, camera positioning and lighting are instrumental in portraying these themes. The techniques used heighten the suspense, drama and mood of each scene and enhance the film in order to convey to the spectator the intended messages.
The movie that I have chosen to review is called the League of their own, which was based on a true story took place in during World War 2. The main focus of this film is fore the view to see that although baseball was a sport that was designed for man, women would be able to be just as good at it, if not better than man. Although it was the women who were going to be playing a man's sport, they would still have to act and be a lady and fallow certain rules.
