I just finished a really good book! It is called All In Pieces by Suzanne Young. All In Pieces is about Savanna. She is a 17-year-old girl who has anger management issues. Her mother left her and her special needs bother after Evans birth. This book is actually really good because the plot is really well thought out, but more importantly it has a love story that will make your heart melt. I couldn’t help but put myself in Savannas shoes during her struggles. After reading this book I can’t believe that a mother would abandon her children, but I could never imagine having to take care of a younger sibling and myself with no parental help. This book is very touching and at some points sad, but you will definitely love it. My favorite part of this story is when Savanna and Cameron's relationship begins to grow. While Cameron and Savanna are playing pool, Savanna thinks, “We both smile now that the moment has passed. That intense, stomach-churning moment is gone and now I can relax. This won’t hurt me. And I was …show more content…
Cameron is my favorite character because in the beginning of the book he is a big mystery. Let's be honest what teenage girl doesn't like a mysterious boy? Plus as you continue to read through the book he becomes more romantic and lovable. Savanna deserves someone who loves her and will treat her well, and Cameron is the perfect guy for her. Cameron is always there for Savanna and is the perfect guy a girl could ask for. My favorite quality about Cameron is that he looks past all of Savannas flaws. When he finds out where she lives and what her life is like at home, he doesn’t change the way he treats her and is nothing but genuine. Once he figures out why she is at the school and about her ex boyfriend, he makes sure Patrick doesn’t harm her, and he doesn’t pity her or treat her any different. Because of his characteristics and how he is portrayed throughout the story, Cameron is my favorite
The book I choose for the book talk is “Dead and gone” written by Norah McClintock, this book talks about a murder mystery of Tricey Howard. However, as return Emily blackmails Mike to investigate Mr. Henderson. During the investigation, Mike finds nothing suspicious, but realize Emily is the daughter of Tricey Howard. Tricey Howard was murdered years ago, but the police still haven’t find the real killer. At the meantime,
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Yasmine and Paige were best friends for months in Sixth grade. They were constantly doing fun activities together, like having sleepovers or planning each other’s birthday parties, but all that was ruined by a mistake Yasmine made. Paige and Yasmine were at a school dance, when
I read the picture book If you give a pig a party by Laura Nemeroff. This book is about a little girl who wants celebrate her pig's birthday, she is planing a lot of activities , such as the decoration, the games, and the the food. She realized that planning a birthday is a hard work because she has to keep happy to all pig's friends (different animals). This book has a lot of pictures to keep the children's attention when an adult is reading. I read it to my students and my daughter and they want to read it again and again.
The book I enjoyed most in the past year is A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. The story switches back and forth between the diary of Nao, a suicidal teenage girl who is determined to record the life story of her great-grandmother Jiko, and Ruth, a women who lives on a remote Pacific island and discovered Nao’s diary washed up on the shore, as a result of the 2011 tsunami in Japan. After reading a few pages of the diary, Ruth is mesmerized by it and decided to find out about Nao’s life. The book covered numerous themes, including Zen Buddhism, natural disaster, Kamikaze pilots, suicide, bullying, quantum mechanics, and time. But something that intrigued me the most is the personal growth of Nao.
This article is a good example of how life would be like for a foreigner in a different country. Because the author talks about the Chinese culture, living space and funeral. The author uses a humorous tone to talk about her living in China. This story has great balance between humor and emotions. “The Old Man Isn’t There Anymore”, by Kellie Schmitt tells a beautiful tale of her experience of life in China.
The first chapter of the book begins with Savanna Getting ready for a New Years eve party. Her younger sister encouraged her to meet a guy named Lionel, who is the friend of Sheila’s husband. After Thanksgiving they talked on occasions and now he invited to meet her at this party. While she is getting ready she explains that she is moving to Phoenix and one of the reasons is because “the men are dead in Denver”. In the past nine years she has spent it living with three different guys and she just can’t find the right one. When she arrives at the party she is nervous and not happy about the way she looks, but that doesn’t stop her. She didn’t really know what Lionel looked like so she sat at an open seat. She hopes that this is the right guy and wants to have fun tonight. She waits for an hour and finally bumps into him and is surprised. They talked for awhile and then decided to dance, while they where dancing she is swept off her feet and believes that he is the guy that she has been waiting for all her life. After the dance is finished they return to their seats and that’s when she finds out that Lionel is at the party with another woman. Denise puts her arm around Lionel and tells him to dance with her. They left to the dance floor and Lionel turned around and gave Savanna a look of apology. Then she leaves the party to go home and watch Dick Clark on the television.
Since the last time I have journaled I have finished Magic hour by Kristin Hannah and Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. Magic Hour is about a feral child who was found in the small town of Rain Valley. It follows the police chief, Ellie, and her sister, Julia, while they try to figure out how to help this child. Julia is a psychiatrist who is working to get the girl to speak, while Ellie is trying to find whom the girl belongs to. Just Listen is about Annabel, the youngest sister of three in the Greene family. The family seems like they have a perfect life. The girls all model, Annabel is popular at school, they live in the perfect neighborhood, and they appear to everyone like the perfect family. The reader quickly discovers that this is not the
The name of the book is Girl in Pieces. This is the perfect title for the book and sparked my interest when I heard it.
Lisa Simon outlines her three main goals of this article as: 1. To demonstrate the importance of constantly questioning what has been left out of historical texts used in classrooms, 2. To inspire educators to critique class texts and incorporate marginalized perspectives into their teaching, and 3. Offer specific steps for educators and students to follow to find these marginalized perspectives. In this article, Simon explores the limitations of using Karen Hesse’s free verse novel Out of the Dust to portray the Oklahoma Dustbowl experience. She argues that like many classroom texts and textbooks this novel is told only from the white perspective, marginalizing the experiences of Oklahomans of color during that time period as well
I finished reading the last 265 pages of Took by Mary Downing Hahn. This book had so many exciting and scary moments that it was hard to put down sometimes. My favorite part was the ending and how the kids finally made friends and everybody was safe, especially Erica. I also finished reading Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier which had 240 pages. Telgemeier is one of my favorite authors so I was very excited to read her newest book. Ghosts were about a family who is moving due to the youngest daughter Maya having Cystic Fibrosis. The oldest sister Catrina isn't happy about leaving her home and friends behind, but she knows it's for the best. The whole book revolves around the two sisters making new friends, meeting neighbors and talking to ghosts.
Over the summer, I read “The Journal Belongs to Ratchet” by Nancy J. Cavanaugh. This book is about a girl, named Ratchet, but her real name is Rachel. She is 11 years old, and she is homeschooled by her mechanic engineer dad. Her dad knows how to rebuild and fix cars. Ratchet helps her dad in the garage, because her dad taught her how to use the tools and what they are used for. They have moved to a lot of houses before. Her dad buys cheap houses that need renovation and he fixes it and then goes onto a new house. Ratchet doesn’t buy anything new. She gets hers clothes from goodwill. In her notebook that she is suppose to use for writing assignments, but she doesn’t use it for that. She uses her notebook for a top-secret plan to turn her old, recycled, freakish, friendless, motherless life into something shiny and new. Ratchet’s quests are to make a friend, save a park, and to find her own definition of normal.
I would recommend The Widow Waltz to the eighteen and up age group. It is really encouraging to show how strong you can be in a tragic situation. This book talks about stuggles, love, decision making, and overcoming fears. I like how Georgia is fully determined and is trying to move on with her life for sake of her children and grandchild. She shows that life is to precious to be upset. I would rate this book a
For my book I chose to read The Body by Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys taking a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods that is at the county line. This story is about more than just four boys going on an adventure its about them becoming closer to each other and learning real life lessons along the way. The four boys are all going into their first year of middle school so this is a time in their life when they learn things that will help them in life.
I read the “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak, in which a little girl is thrown into an unknown world without her mother or brother. The main character of the book, Liesel, becomes a foster child in Germany during the 1940s. The book is over a span of years and we grow with Liesel. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone. It is set during the Holocaust, but it is still a coming of age book. I liked this book because the writer managed to write a book about a girl growing up and Nazi Germany. Neither one took away from each other and it all flowed very nicely.
Cody sat on the footstool with his head low, his face was filled with sadness as he listens to his wife say that she was leaving him for an interesting life in Niagara Falls. Cody jumped up before his wife could leave the house, with his whole body, he stretched his arms and legs out as he block the door. He didn't want his wife to leave and his expressions showed how much he cared, and wanted her to stay. Cody then ran across the room to pick up a plate of food and he jumped onto the bed with it. He began to speak in a high tone and told his wife to take the plate of food because she had a long bus ride to Niagara Falls. Cody tried to convince his wife to stay, but she didn't, she had her mind made up and she was leaving. As the play continued there was a scene showing how Cass’s decision to leave really destroyed Cody. He was sitting in a dark room wrapped in a blanket as he held a piece of tissue in his hands. He cried tears of pain with his head held down as he sat in the lonely house, heartbroken from his wife's departure. Something people make choices in life and don't think twice on who are affected by the choices they
