Francescone’s paper, “Someday My Prince Will Come: The Impact on Fairytales in Print and Film over Time,” was filled with many clear points and grabbing details on the changes Disney has made to make fairytales more suitable for children and creating strong, female characters. This essay was very interesting to read and was filled with details; however, there were too many quotes and grammatical errors. Francescone has a strong hook in the introduction of her paper. She illustrates the experience of a young girl walking through Disney World for the first time (Francescone 1). Her descriptive language is immediately engaging and draws the reader to imagine their own experiences or connect with this young girls curiosity and overwhelming delight. …show more content…
However, there were a few mistakes that should be addressed with some of the author’s sources. When Francescone discusses the original version of The Little Mermaid, there was no source listed in the back of the paper that went with her in text citation (2). This was also the issue on page six. Francescone uses an in text citation for the author, Welter. However, there is no Welter listed in the Works Cited paper on the last page (6). There is also an issue with the authors in text citations. When repeating the same source in the next citation, there is not a need to put the same authors last name into the citation, there only needs to be the page number where the author obtained the information. This is repeated a few times throughout the paper, for example it occurs on both pages four and seven. Luckily, this is a very easy mistake to correct and will increase the legitimacy of this paper quickly. The majority of the author’s sources are academic and add value to the paper; however, there are a few movies listed on the work cited. If this paper didn’t involve an in-depth analysis of Disney movies, I would be concerned with how appropriate they are. For the context of this paper, the movies are integral and cited correctly and should be a part of the works cited …show more content…
It was similar to the opening paragraph and referenced similar points. The author ends her paper with a quote from Walt Disney. This was very fitting end to this paper because the concept about this paper was how Disney made strides to make fairytales appropriate for children (10). One thing the author could expand upon to make this an even better paper when considering grammar and mechanics, is to use a thesaurus and expand upon mundane and overused words. The paper itself is excellent and makes clear points, but with a richer vocabulary it would make the paper more enjoyable to read and increase its legitimacy. For example, instead of saying “They talk about honoring the family, which is a big deal in Chinese culture,” the author could rephrase that to say, “Honor is a crucial staple in Chinese culture that Disney addresses,” (8). The title of Francescone’s paper, “Someday My Prince Will Come: The Impact on Fairytales in Print and Film Over Time” is the perfect title for this paper. The phrase “Someday my prince will come,” is so recognizable and the reader will immediately know that this paper has something to do with Disney and princesses. The second half illustrates exactly what the paper focuses on and ties in well with the thesis statement. This also allows the reader to know what they will be reading about in a way that makes it inviting and exciting because it allows them to reminisce on their
Film analysis with a critical eye can give the viewer how animation giant Disney uses literary element to relay key messages to the audience. Walt Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” is a perfect example how different literary theories like ‘the Marxist theory’ and ‘Archetypal theory’ can be embedded in the simplest of the fairy tales. The different literary elements in the movie, shows a person how characters like ‘the banker’ and the setting of the houses helps to portray the socio-economic differences in New Orleans at that time. Applying ‘the Marxist theory’ and ‘the Archetypal theory’ to the plot, characters and the setting, shows how movies can be a medium to confront social issues and to prove that all fairy tales are of the same base.
...n” is a great example of an old myth or tale reconstructed and adapted for a modern audience in a new medium. It is a progression on one hand in its use of modern language, setting, and style but it is also the product of the old myths in that it is essentially the same on the thematic level. In addition, the level of self-awareness on the part of the narrator and, by extension, the author marks it out as an illustration of the very notion of evolutionary changes of myths and fairy tales. Adaptation is the solution to the fairy tale, and fairy tales have been endlessly changing themselves throughout history and, by some strange transforming or enchanting power endlessly staying the same.”
I found “Someday My Prince Will Come” to be a very interesting and enlightening article, sometimes when watching Disney movies at face value, it is easy to miss just how heterosexually driven these movies are. Many of the Disney movi...
Through his portrayal of characters and unorthodox style of writing throughout the fairy tale, Goldman pokes fun at the literary process and ordinary fairy tales. Through his fairy tale, The Princess Bride, Goldman ridicules numerous tropes of fairy tales and simultaneously critiques overdone expositions. Every character represents an archetype of a common fairy tale, but they all have glaring flaws that directly contradict how they are supposed to act. William Goldman sets forth his satirical theme that the literary industry’s rigid rules reflect its inability to adapt in an ever changing society.

The simplicity of fairy tales and non-specific details renders them ideal for manipulation allowing writers to add their own comments often reflecting social convention and ideology. Theref...
For their second edition of fairy tales, the Grimms and their publisher deemed their original version of “Rapunzel” to be inappropriate for children for “what proper mother or nanny could tell the fairy tale about Rapunzel to an innocent daughter without blushing?” (Tatar 18). The Grimms, in fact, changed details of “Rapunzel,” ridding the story of even t...
Produced in 2009, The Frog Princess is a Disney animation inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ fairytale, The Frog Prince. Both The Frog Princess and The Frog Prince deal with a multiplicity of issues, all of which contribute to supporting positive messages and morals (Ceaser, 2009). However, though The Frog Princess is based on a classic fairytale, it is far from being the same. The writers at Disney have taken a classic fairytale and created a “Monster” (Prince, 2001). This essay will examine the evolution of the original Grimm Brothers’ fairytale, the messages both main characters represent, and how the adaptation to fit a modern child readership diminishes a classic fairytale. Through discussing these arguments, this paper will prove that Disney’s adaptation into The Princess and The Frog is counter-productive in representing the original story’s messages, morals, and values.

In both Hans Christian Andersons “The Little Mermaid,” and Disney’s version of the story, the main character— a young and beautiful mermaid— waits anxiously for her fifteenth birthday to venture from her father’s underwater castle to the world above the water. As the story carries on the mermaids priorities change; her modest and selfless nature is revealed towards the end in Andersen’s version. However, Disney’s version encompasses a rather shallow ending and plot throughout. The theme found in comparing the two versions reveal that Andersen’s substance trumps Disney’s entertainment factor in fairy tales.
In today’s modern age, young children are being raised by their TV screen. Reining from the original tales of Perrault and the Grim Brothers, the Disney princess line has been a staple on the screens since the 1930s (Do Rozario 1). However, these princesses have gone through dramatic changes to remain relevant to todays youth. The effects that can be influenced by the roles expressed in these types of films send mixed messages to the audience, causing them to ask themselves whether or not they should believe what the princess is expressing on the screen.
We all grew up hoping that we were the princesses who met the dreamy prince and lived ‘happily ever after’ like in a fairytale.People debate over whether or not Disney fairytales are beneficial for children. Like Melissa Taylor the author of the piece ‘10 reasons why kids need to read non disney fairy tales’, I am against disneyfied fairy tales. In this essay I will argue on why kids should not only watch disney fairytales but also the real versions.

Chainani is one of few who has re-envisioned a world of gender equality amidst a fairy tale. The possible reason behind this success is Chainani is not recreating an original story; he has created something almost completely original, a “Hogwarts of Fairy Tales.” The heritage behind classic tales like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty has been engrained in society
Over the years, fairytales have been distorted in order to make them more family friendly. Once these changes occur, the moral and purpose of the stories begin to disappear. The tales featured in the many Disney movies - beloved by so many - have much more malignant and meaningful origins that often served to scare children into obeying their parents or learning valuable life lessons.
