For my evaluation essay I wrote about the restaurant Clocked, a small diner located in downtown Athens. Clocked has good food, wonderful customer service, and a sci-fi vibe that will send many people back to their childhood. Athens is a large city, and the University of Georgia is a large school with over 36,000 students. It can be easy to get lost in such a large city. In my evaluation, I spoke about how Clocked can help Athens seem more like a small community. For my paper remix I wanted to send the same message as my original paper, that a large city like Athens can become a home. Instead of sending my message through words, I created a poster board filled with pictured from different points in my life. By using different pictures from Rome and Athens, I show that both cities can become home with the help of a small diner like Clocked. For my remix, I wanted to show how Clocked has helped Athens become my home away from home. In the center of my poster, I painted the word ‘home’ in white. Instead of writing the letter ‘o’ in home, I replaced it with a heart to show that feelings, such as love, remind me of home. In the center of the heart, I painted the arch. Surrounding the word ‘home’, I placed different pictures that showed my connection to Clocked. In one …show more content…
photo, I am in my high school cheer uniform with my friend Olivia. While I was in high school, the football players and the cheerleaders would often go to Steak ‘n’ Shake after every Friday night football game. Clocked is like Steak ‘n’ Shake, offering different flavors of milkshakes and every type of burger imaginable. By placing the photo of myself in my cheer uniform on the poster, I show my connection with my hometown and Clocked. Another photo that I included on my poster was a photo of my brother and I when we were both young. Clocked has a sci-fi theme, with old sci-fi movie posters hanging on the walls. When I was young, my brother and I would always watch Star Wars together. By adding the young photo of myself, I display how Clocked reminds me of my childhood. I use many other pictures on my poster, such as pictures with family members and pictures of homecooked meals. By including these pictures, I show that Clocked is family oriented and that when I eat at Clocked I feel like I am eating in my own home. Not only, did I include photos of myself from the past, but I included pictures that I have recently taken since I have been in Athens. By including pictures that I have recently taken since I have moved, I show that Clocked is starting to become my home. Each photo on my poster has a different connection to how I personally relate to Clocked and how it makes Athens feel like home. While writing my evaluation and creating my poster, my intended audience were freshmen like myself.
I relate to freshmen who are on their own for the first time in their lives. I grew up in a town so small that wherever I went I always ran into a familiar face. Moving to Athens was a huge culture shock for me, not knowing anyone except for my roommate. I felt like I was drowning in the crowd, until I visited Clocked for the first time. Clocked offered me a sense of relief, knowing that there were small diners similar to those found in my hometown. By creating my poster, I wanted to reach out to college freshmen like myself and show that there are small diners in Athens that can make you feel at
home. The purpose of my poster is to show my own experiences at Clocked and how eating at Clocked has offered me a sense of home, allowing me to be more outgoing. When I was first accepted to the University of Georgia, I was not sure I wanted to attend. Athens is four hours away from my hometown and I had never been that far away from home without my parents. I only knew one other person who was attending UGA and when I am put in a situation where I do not know anyone, I am not the most outgoing person. On move in day, I ate lunch with my family at Clocked. After eating at Clocked, I realized that Athens is not the big city like I imagined. The purpose of my project is worthy because it can help other students in the same situation as me. In my experience, Clocked showed me that there are ways to make Athens feel more like a small town that I am used to. When others see my poster, the will see that there are different ways to get connected and make Athens home.
Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurant started in 1982 in Austin, TX off Barton Springs Rd. It was the vision of two friends, Mike Young and John Zapp. They wanted to create a restaurant that offered quality food, diverse options, and affordable prices. The first location was in an old, abandoned BBQ shack with limited room and space, but it would certainly do. Mike and John ran low on their budget for décor and ended up with $20 to spend. John went out to find as much décor as possible. “You can’t fake cheap.” said, John. One of the items John came back with was a velvet canvas of Elvis; thus the beginning of the signature culture and environment provide by Chuy’s. John and Mark say, “If you’ve seen one Chuy’s, you’ve seen one Chuy’s.” The one common denominator found in each location is the Elvis Shrine. From the very beginning The King has played a part in this successful restaurants growth and development.
I will be talking about Carmine’s Southern Italian Restaurant, Specifically the Theater District location where I work. Carmine’s located in the Theater District is a very successful establishment; I have met some of the hardest working individuals in my time of employment and have learned how the company works. They are a family style restaurant where all food is meant to be shared. Carmine’s implements a real good concept and I will be talking about all of things that help this business thrive and be a fan favorite in New York.
What’s cooking at Carrabba’s? Fanny Fern once said, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” (Fern 1). This not only holds true for men, it surly can be said about anyone. A restaurant that can capture anyone’s heart is Carrabba’s Italian Grill. What makes it different from all the other Italian restaurants?
This article’s main claim is that providing healthy food options in fast food menus allows individuals to perceive the food on the menu overall as healthy; and therefore enhances the likelihood that they will over consume unhealthy food options as well. Downs supports her argument by first providing context and introduces the question why “labels in restaurants do not change behavior”? (429). She finds that “restaurants who have provided nutritional labeling did not change consumer behavior nor did consumers take the opportunity to read them as well” (429). She notes that this critical because fast food has been referred to as one of the reasons behind the rise of obesity in the United States. In addition, she states that her findings about
To appeal to both of the audiences, I used a pathos appeal. On both posters, I used pictures of families who adopted many diverse teens into their family or a group of diverse teens and young adults to express the feeling of accepting teens or young adults no matter the ethnic background. The one element that I chose to emphasize in the poster for college students is free food. Free food will...
No matter who they are, where they came from, or what they are like, all people need the same one thing—food. Just because it is a necessity, however, does not mean that people cannot enjoy it. Tom Sietsema is the well-fed food critic of The Washington Post, and it is his job to find the tastiest places to go to scratch that necessary-for-survival itch. In his columns, Sietsema employs a vibrant style of writing that includes a unique style and various rhetorical techniques that mirror his feelings about the restaurant or food he is reviewing.
Money—in the form of gold bars or paper faces, currency has been a system used in almost every modern society to regulate exchange and to represent wealth. While it is an effective bureaucratic system, money creates inevitable social divides. In the vein of philosopher and sociologist Karl Marx in his famous work, The Communist Manifesto, the haves and have-nots are in a constant struggle between oppressor and oppressed. The Dinner, a novel by Herman Koch, chronicles a brief encounter between the narrator and main character, Paul, Claire, Serge, and Babette, his wife, brother, and his sister-in-law, respectively. his wife, his brother, Serge, and his sister-in-law, Babette. The four must meet to discuss the fate of their children after they
“I’ve been here for ten minutes and my server hasn’t taken my order yet!” This is a direct quote from me before I worked at a restaurant. I never looked to see how many tables my server actually had or how much running I made them do. The sad truth is most people do not notice these details either, which may affect the tip their server will receive. By looking at the attitude and maintenance of restaurant customers, you can classify them into three categories according to their tipping patterns: the “hmm…how good were they? tippers,” “the “stick-to-the-fifteen-percent tippers,” and the “I-am-or-once-was-a-server tippers”.
Descriptive statistics can be defined as statistics that summarizes data that is collected from a research. One way of summarizing research data is by calculating the measure of central tendency. Examples of measure of central tendency includes mode, mean and Midian. Data can also be summarized in respect to variance. When the scores are more spread out of the mean, there is a greater variance.
Upon arrival into the jungle of vast buildings, the first thing noticed is the mobbed streets filled with taxi cabs and cars going to and fro in numerous directions, with the scent of exhaust surfing through the air. As you progress deeper into the inner city and exit your vehicle, the aroma of the many restaurants passes through your nostrils and gives you a craving for a ?NY Hot Dog? sold by the street venders on the corner calling out your name. As you continue your journey you are passed by the ongoing flow of pedestrians talking on their cell phones and drinking a Starbucks while enjoying the city. The constant commotion of conversing voices rage up and down the streets as someone calls for a fast taxi. A mixed sound of various music styles all band together to form one wild tune.
I chose this image because of its message and how it pertains to my life. I first came across the poster when I took a chorus trip to London for their New Year’s Day Parade back in 2011/2012. I saw it in a London souvenir shop and was immediately drawn to it. I really enjoy its overall message. When I look at it, I feel a sense of hope and calmness. The bold red colored background...
The business idea for opening a multi-cultural restaurant catering clients across the community is turned into an opportunity for establishing an entrepreneurial venture. The extensive research and development process as well as market research is conducted to address the issue of providing a localized taste for international cuisine in fine dining restaurant settings (Long, 2013). The food, ambiance, service, and authentic of taste are major elements of focus while developing the plan for seizing business opportunity adhering to a unique restaurant idea. The below sections provide a detailed overview, management, marketing, and financial segments of the proposed project.
As I walked down the sidewalk, my nose picked up the salty scent of the sea breeze. I looked ahead and saw the gleaming beach in the far distance. Before me, the tranquil city along with the endless blue sea sandwiched the golden beach that stretched across for miles. Then my eyes were grasped by the incredible beauty of the city skyscrapers that stood hundreds of meters tall, and they probably had also captured the sight of many other tourists. Some people were jogging and others were bike riding Just as the yellow sun rises from behind the buildings. It’s easy for many people t...
The coffee shop I decided to do my observation was the well known Starbucks just a couple blocks away. The reason I chose this coffee shop was because of it 's style inside, it attracted me. For example, one side of the wall has a glass top, and the lower part of the wall, made of wood and painted in a bright red color, which was one thing that attracted me and stood out. Outside of the shop people can actually see through the glass wall and get to see what’s happening inside of the coffeeshop. By the entrance you see these two red ceiling lamps which were shaped in a flower bud and these two tall green plants. Once you were in, on the right of the shop there was a counter with food and things to put in your drinks such as milk, sugar, chocolate, etc and the colors and how the food was displayed and served was appealing to my eyes. Behind that counter there was a long table with different electronic devices plugged into the wall. On the middle of the those there is a fridge just for ice and when I turned to the other side and I noticed a big menu on the wall. Further more into the shop, there was an area filled with tables, chairs, and sofas. The tables were in different shapes, one was round and the others rectangular, also there was four bamboo baskets and I looked around and noticed that the walls in that area were decorated with paintings.
While many people assume local restaurants are inferior to city restaurants, I believe that local diners often have better food, friendlier staff, and a more enjoyable atmosphere. I chose to write about Mandarin Chinese Dining because of the many pleasant experiences I have had there.
