Father Cry Reading Response
In Father Cry Dr. Billy Wilson through his personal testimony explains the importance of spiritual fathers and mothers in a Christians life. He gives examples from his life and the bible of how this relationship is so vital to the walk of a Christian. He expresses the importance of being obedient and excepting correcting from a spiritual father or mother. Another thing that is outline in the book is how we can see God as our father. For some it may be very hard to see God in a positive light when think of him as a father, because of the example their earthly father is. The importance of authentic forgiveness it outlined in this book. It is also very important to realize that people on earth make mistakes and are
not the same as God. He also expresses the importance of being obedient and excepting correcting for a spiritual father or mother. This book does an amazing job of explaining God as our personal loving father. Dr. Billy Wilson uses many scriptures to back his points up, but he goes a step further by explaining the Aramaic word Abba. The personal stories that are woven throughout the book make it very personal. Further more the book is written on a level that makes it easy to understand and does not talk about hard to grasp concepts. Something that stood out to me is, “Positive momentum was dependent on intercession.” I have read this story about Moses and Joshua but have never understood it on the level the book talks about. This one quote form the book outlines the over all point that both generations are important for accomplishing God’s plans. Joshua with Gods help was able to accomplish thing that Moses never could have. Joshua lead the children of God into the promise land but if Moses had not lead them out of Egypt that never could have happened. The reason I need a spiritual mother in my life is to have someone giving me advice and backing me in prayer.

In the short story The Father by Hugh Garner there is boy who’s father is not involved in his life. This is mostly because he is always drunk. Because of this Johnny, the father’s son, has not really been able to connect with his father. He is never there for Johnny when he needs him and is always embarrassing him. This made me really sad as I cannot imagine living without a loving father. I do not think that anyone should have to live without the care of their father. I can only imagine how sad that Johnny must have felt to not have a good father in his life. It must have been very hard for Johnny to see all of the other scout and their father’s at the banquet, knowing that he would never have a good father-son relationship with his dad. The fact that he did not feel comfortable asking his dad to come to the scouts banquet himself,
David Walker’s Appeal to the Coloured Citizens of the World, but in particular, and very expressly to those of the United States of America, “promoted racial solidarity and moral elevation with fervor,” and is as much a political source as it is religious. His Appeal adamantly argues against oppression and slavery while encouraging a vivacious and lively spirit amongst the black community, in the hopes of promoting unity and diminishing the acceptance of mistreatment from their white counterparts. To convey this message, which was presented in a mannerism that was extremely radical, Walker uses the bible and what can most clearly be defined as a Methodist theology to support his stance on the issues of society.
Jerry Sittser’s book not only brings readers into loss with all its real emotions and pain but it also highlights truths that can be applied to anyone’s life. Sittser’s faith is evident throughout the book and his struggle of finding his faith within his loss and sorrow is encouraging to many. In the end, through his loss, he finds God again and through the writing of his book is now able to offer many insights on the Christian perspectives of sorrow, loss, forgiveness and how mental illness affects families. Sittser inspires readers because they have witnessed that they can too grow and continue living life despite their loss and without forgetting their loss.
Narrative is a form of writing used by writers to convey their experiences to an audience. James Baldwin is a renowned author for bringing his experience to literature. He grew up Harlem in the 1940’s and 1950’s, a crucial point in history for America due to the escalading conflict between people of different races marked by the race riots of Harlem and Detroit. This environment that Baldwin grew up in inspires and influences him to write the narrative “Notes of a Native Son,” which is based on his experience with racism and the Jim-Crow Laws. The narrative is about his father and his influence on Baldwin’s life, which he analyzes and compares to his own experiences. When Baldwin comes into contact with the harshness of America, he realizes the problems and conflicts he runs into are the same his father faced, and that they will have the same affect on him as they did his father.
Without parents, the child is nothing in this world. Parents start doing love their child when the child is born and they are still love child their whole life. A parent always with their child even they get older. For The Parents, the child is always child even they grow up and married. Steve's parents crying and his dad feel that he is guilty but they didn't lose Steve's hand alone or they didn't break a relationship with Steve. This shows that how much parents love their child. Parents always love their child even child's friend leave their friendship or leave their hand
The relationship between a father and a son is something that is sacred, full of teachings and one of love, for example the relationship between Jesus Christ and God. In the novel Go tell it on the mountain the relationship between John and his father Gabriel is jointly destructive and the complete opposite of Jesus’s teaching, but there seems to be ...
For most people, becoming a parent is one of the greatest moments in their lives. I never understood the true meaning of love until I became a father. Little did I know; I would also learn the tragedy of loss.
Shultz (2003) emphasizes the important role God has assigned to parents in raising their children. The sole responsibility of raising children lies with the parents and cannot be delegated to other individuals outside the family unit. As part of the training process parents are to be the balancing mechanism for promoting inward control of a child. When the child is unable to maintain proper inward ...
We who have felt the sting of grief, who have experienced the pain of loss, are often the best at helping others. It’s important to have a good understanding of the stages of grief. Knowing these stages will help you in ministering to those who are in the midst of their grief. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 describes this saying, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
Having negative feelings towards a family member is often difficult to handle. An individual may disagree with the actions of a family member; however, they are still related. This struggle is shown in the poem My Father by James Berry. The speaker of the poem deals with his feelings of resentment towards his father. Berry utilizes a list-like structure, contrasting ideas as well as imagery to portray the speaker/son’s negative feelings towards his father. Throughout the poem, the speaker responds to the actions of his father by outlining his feelings.
Imagine growing up without a father. Imagine a little girl who can’t run to him for protection when things go wrong, no one to comfort her when a boy breaks her heart, or to be there for every monumental occasion in her life. Experiencing the death of a parent will leave a hole in the child’s heart that can never be filled. I lost my father at the young of five, and every moment since then has impacted me deeply. A child has to grasp the few and precious recollections that they have experienced with the parent, and never forget them, because that’s all they will ever have. Families will never be as whole, nor will they forget the anguish that has been inflicted upon them. Therefore, the sudden death of a parent has lasting effects on those
When I became a parent in 2011 my priority for my child's spiritual growth was at the top of my list. I continue to strive for my relationship with God to flourish and to be an example of what it means to have a relationship with God for my son to see. I try to make it a daily task, when possible; that we bless our food before meals, worship together by listening to gospel music and singing along, talk about God, read the bible together, read devotionals together, and pray before bed together. I understand that parents are children’s first teachers and that makes me want to be better in my walk with God because I know parenting is the ministry that God has for me at this time.
The novel “Gilead” by Marilynne Robinson is written in first person as a seventy-six year old minister, John Ames, writes a letter to his son in a epistolary format. The last days of John Ames' life is coming near and he uses the time he has left to write his son a letter that has stories of their family, personal thoughts, and advices he wants to give his seven year old son. He hopes to give his son some wisdom and also something more to remember him by. This initially shows the readers that John Ames is loving and caring. But in retrospect, there was a time in John Ames' life where he found it hard to forgive; especially to one person, his namesake, John Ames Boughton (Jack). Ames was really bitter towards Jack and he found it really hard to forgive him because he was a troubled teenager and an atheist that always challenged Ames' beliefs. One of the themes of “Gilead” is forgiveness.
Losing a child is one of the most traumatic events a person can ever experience. This life changing experience is very difficult for parents to cope with. Grief is something we all experience as human beings; we will all lose someone that we love in our lifetime. We all go through the five stages of grief denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and last being acceptance (Bolden, 2007). However, this is arguably not the case for parents who experience the death of a child. Although, parents who have experienced...
