How would the world differ without respect? Respect is the act of showing someone that you value his or her feelings and thoughts. Respect is a universal value that each person desires not only to embody, but also to receive. Respect is not just what you say but also the way you act. Showing people that you take their feelings and thoughts into consideration are how to earn respect. If you demonstrate respect toward others, then others will respect you and listen to your opinions.
Respect begins with self-respect and then extends to the respect of others. Self-respect occurs only when you listen to yourself and place your opinions and feelings are before others. The more you value yourself, the more you know that you are worth something. The more you listen to your feelings and opinions, the more you know that you are worth something. Respect is a such a simple concept and a virtue that should be simple to follow. It means treating other people and animals in a dignified manner. Throughout my life, I have met countless role models (supervisors, co-workers, teachers, coaches, my parents) who push me harder and harder every single day so that I will succeed beyond belief in the changing world of today. Respect is also holding you up to an expectation that gets tougher and tougher because I am pushing myself harder. I will always have respect for all today, tomorrow, and the future
When I think of what respect means to me, my definition is: listening and being mindful of what someone is saying or doing. The dictionary on Google has respect listed as: “admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements” (Google). I have never associated with respect with admiring someone’s abilities, qualities, yet along their achievements. The two different mothers in the stories view respect differently as well.
Proper respect for others begins by a person respecting their self. Respect is developed by expressing honor, leadership, value, and trust in a person. If everyone respects everyone someday, the world will become a seventh heaven. It is important to be respectful for safety, to abide by the law, because children are influenced by their elders’ actions, and because God says so. Motivation from peers can help a person realize there is always room to improve the level of respect a person exhibits. Respect was, is, and always will be a positive attribute for everyone to strive for in their lives.
Respect to me is admiring someone for their abilities, qualities, or achievements. I think respect is always earned an can never be given. As soldiers soldiers we should always respect our peers because they have made the same sacrifice as us. But as soldiers we should have a higher level of respect for our NCOs because they have done their time an have earned it. Being respectful is not hard it is simple, just treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
In three seperate dictionaries, respect is defined as a regard for or appreciation of the worth or value of someone or something. In my opinion, respect goes far beyond this definition. Respect is the cornerstone of the society in which we live. Although many look at respect as simply treating another person or thing with kindness, this word has many different aspects. For instance, I would not give an elder the same type of respect that I would give my peers or myself. Respect is not considered a neccessity in this world but, I can’t imagine a person getting very far in life without this virtue.

This is reflected in the way the modern world treats the issue of honor. In ancient times, honor was the manner of being that we now describe as having integrity. People generally do not seem to behave very well toward each other any more.Honor determines the hierarchy of an individual while revealing his loyalty and true intentions. Reward comes for those at the top whose honor does not diminish, while a false or fleeting honor of a lesser mortal causes destruction. Exploring and discussing how to act honorably toward each other is a place to start. The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be. How can you be a person of integrity? First, figure out what integrity (honor) is. My mother used to say to treat others the way you wanted to be treated. Does anyone do that these days? Well, I know that I don't want to be cut off in traffic, or yelled at, or bumped into rudely at the grocery store, or left picking up garbage all over my yard from the street. So I could try not to do those things to other people. I won't cut off others in traffic, or yell, or act rude at the grocery store, or throw garbage in the street. That's just a place to start. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

A good friendship with someone else can be challenging to find especially in school. Valuing each other, plays a huge role day to day because it shows how good of a friendship myself and one of my close friends have together. Also, being a better person in general can benefit every situation because it shows much you may care for the other person and how they respond to your actions. Trustworthy friends are the best kind to find because they can be there for you and myself could be there for them. As a result, being their supporters in anything can make you have their support as well if you’re not feeling one hundred percent all of the time.

The respect Okonkwo has from the people in his village rises gradually in the first two parts of the novel, then falls drastically in the final chapters, which reflects the change in the culture of the village as the British influence grows. As an outside observer of the events in the novel, I am able to link Okonkwo’s respect to the moral of the village. From my reading, I believe they are directly proportionate. When Okonkwo gains respect, the moral of the village and the faith of the people is high. Conversely, when the people stop believing in Okonkwo, they lose unity and cohesiveness.
I need to give respect first to someone to expect it back in return. I think of respect as one of the things you need to be successful. If I do not treat my superiors with respect, they are going to think that I am not someone that they want to move up in their company and work with. I do not think that respect is something that you choose to give to certain people. Respect is something that every person deserves, whether I like them or not. For example, I have been by people that I don’t necessary prefer to be around, I don’t want to be mean to them but I still treat them with respect. Respect is showing love, when you love someone you protect them from hurt. It gives comfort to the heart to be with someone who respects you.
