The Wiggles Biography
The original children’s music group The Wiggles formed in 1991 and had four members including Anthony Field, Murray Cook, Gregory Page and Jeffery Fatt. Page, Field and Cook met at Macquarie University while studying early childhood education and wrote children’s songs as projects. Fatt and Field knew each other as they were both in the same band The Cockroaches, eventually Fatt joined the group to record the first Wiggles album which was the beginning of The Wiggles.
Anthony Donald Joseph Field

1985 due to his back pain. Field suffered with clinical depression which he overcame in 2012. Field and his brothers also found the pop band The Cockroaches but disbanded in the 1980s. Murray James cook Murray cook is best known as the RED wiggle who plays the guitar.
Born in Cowra NSW. He was a part of the bands The Transistors, Finger Guns and Bang Shang a Lang but Cook was disappointed when his music career didn’t work out and so attended Macquarie University where he met Anthony and Greg and formed The Wiggles. On 26 January he was made Member of the Order of Australia and 2015 was the Australian jury for the junior Eurovision song contest 2015.
Gregory John Page
Gregory page was well known as the YELLOW wiggle. Born in Sydney NSW. Page was a roadie of The Cockroaches and took advice from Field to study early childhood education. Page also suffered double hernia which required an operation diagnosed with a chronic illness called dysautonomia. Page owned the 4th largest collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia in the world which he donated for $1.5 million he also was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2010.
Jeffery Wayne Fatt
Fatt is well known as the PURPLE wiggle. Born in casino NSW 21st July 1953. Fatt wanted to pursue being an architect and received a bachelor of arts in industrial design however he later went on to playing keyboard for the Rockability band and the Road Masters until he was asked to join The Cockroaches by Anthony. The Wiggles have promoted early age learning for children all over Australia and worldwide. The Wiggles have contributed towards children’s education through their music and TV shows which help influence many characteristics of a child such as language development, thinking skills as well as emotional, social and physical development and so is the reason of their success, helping children at a young age especially with autism and disabilities.
The Wiggles are successful on the part that the whole brand was self-financed and created by themselves. For the first 6 years Fatt did the bookkeeping as well as banking and merchandising.
Between 1996 and 1997 they financed their first TV show with the money they saved from touring and making videos and produced 13 episodes which channel 7 Australia bought, eventually they sold the show to ABC and also managed to sell it to Disney Australia.
The Wiggles also promoted Australian children entertainment overseas, to pursue that they franchised a Spanish and Mandarin Wiggle group but they found that the countries preferred dubbing the show in their own language but the songs to be sung in English and so have stopped franchising more groups.
The Wiggles are all about a healthy lifestyle and promoting it and so influence young children in eating healthy foods therefore endorse brands they believe in like yogurts, milk and fruit
juices. The Wiggles success on a global scale The wiggles have been a successful self-financed business and over the past 27 years have earned a fair share of awards and made ground breaking records. The wiggles so far have won five APRAs (Australasian Performing Rights Association) and have been awarded APRAs international achievement award. Additionally they have been nominated for ARIA 23 times for best children’s album and won an ARIA award 14 times. In 2003 they were awarded ARIAS award for outstanding achievement and 2011 were placed into ARIAS hall of fame. The Wiggles came number three on BRW's (Business Review Weekly) list of highest earning entertainers in 2009, raking in $45 million in one year. Between 2000 and 2010 The Wiggles earned 21 gold records and many platinum, double platinum and multi-platinum records. The Wiggles also have their own “wiggle world” in Dreamworld Australia and 5 Six Flags Amusements Parks in America and England. Recognitions The Wiggles have received All the members of the wiggles have been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Australian catholic university in 2006 and from Macquarie University in 2009. The wiggles were named UNICEF goodwill ambassadors in 2008. All member were appointed in Order of Australia which is a recognition of Australian citizens for their achievements or commendable service. The Wiggles contribution to the community The wiggles are a great inspiring team for young children to look up to and once in a while hold up charity concerts for instance in 2008 they were named UNICEF goodwill ambassadors, the group donated $110000 from profits raised from a concert and presented it to UNICEF chief executive Caroline Hardy. The money could have been used for children’s health in Timor villages to spend on 300 new toilets and clean water for five schools. The Wiggles have also held a 15 year tradition of visiting sick children at Sydney Children’s Hospital every year on Christmas morning to brighten up the children’s day. The wiggles have always been ambassadors of red nose and have raised awareness of their safe sleeping education campaign and also wrote a song “sleep safe, my baby”. They have supported red nose day by doing TV and radio advertisements and appearing in their public relations and marketing. The wiggles have partnered up with transport for NSW for a car seat safety campaign which aims to keep children safe in the car and teach them to be buckled up in the car. The wiggles believe in spreading positive and useful messages to its young audience and through its campaigns and charity concerts there fans feel closer to them as the wiggles are helping their own community.
