Super sparkles dolls consist of dolls with different shapes and color to differentiate each super sparkle girl’s powers. The superpowers that each doll from the collection contains will interest children into asking for the toy. Each doll will come with a mini book describing her powers, hobbies and their jobs. The mini book will reveal facts about the doll and interest the child of each dolls unique super power personality. In addition to a high increase in children’s interest another attraction will be the accessories in the collection. In the collection, the dolls will be wearing their super hero fighting outfit and additional superhero out fits for other dolls. Not only will the high consumption of the collection of dolls will increase but also the additional accessories sold for each doll. It is clear that the narrator did not have many possessions but what she had she greatly valued. What do little girls do with these dolls? They put on fresh makeup, change there fashionable clothing, and style there long luscious hair. This alone is creating a psychological change in a little girls brain, it is instilling that this is what is customary for a girl to do. For centuries society has quietly driven a complex into the hearts and minds of young girls, that you have to be pretty to succeed. How many different types of mindsets are there? According to Dr. Skip Downing there are at least two major mindsets. He refers to them as Victims and Creators. What are the definitions of these types of mindsets? A Victim is someone who feels that they cannot influence their own outcomes in life and let things happen without trying to shape the result. A Creator is someone who consistently make choices that result in the outcome that they want. David Mirman has written an article that provides this clear example of Victim and Creator mindsets using the example of two college students searching for a textbook “The instructor asked them if they had the text. The first said “No, I do not have the textbook. I was not able to get it because the bookstore didn’t have any more. They said they ran out. It was their fault, not mine”.” This student exhibited the mindset of a victim. The article then quotes the second student who was able to find the textbook ““I called several other college bookstores in our region, ones farther away from our campus. But none of them carried this book. So finally I went online and found used copies available for much less. I used the savings to pay for 2-day air shipping, and got the used book by 2nd day air, for about the price the new book was at our bookstore” she concluded.” This student exhibited the mindset of a Creator by not letting those circumstances get in the way. What are some other real life examples of Victims and Creators? How have I personally strived to think more like a Creator? I feel that knowing the definitions of these mindsets and applying them in our own lives can benefit people and myself in schoolwork, work, and in achieving goals (Downing) (Mirman).
In the Article “Barbie Doesn’t Add Up,” the author Ken Schroeder states that Barbie dolls were just dolls that gave young girls false ideas of what they should be and look like as they get older. This article was written in the Education Digest in 1992, which helps understand why the author talks mostly about Barbie’s intelligence. The main audience of this article is directed towards parents of young girls in particular. The author is not very persuasive in the article about Barbie because he does not give enough legitimate examples and proof that his theory is correct. Also he is not in any type of field work that studies how children grow up to be after playing with Barbie. It is hard to find many credible examples to back up Mr. Schroeder’s views and thoughts on Barbie and how she makes girls think they should not be good at math.

Because girls are impressionable at all ages, Barbie targets young girls to fantasize about being perfect. Girls look at Barbie and believe they can obtain all of her attributes, while in reality that would be impossible. Having a goal to be an astronaut or pediatrician seems probable at young ages, but the image of Barbie and all of her successes are never a result of schooling, hardships, or any stresses that would face them today. A fantasy world is built up and is deemed probable because of the one-sided point of view of Barbie. It may seem trivial and go unnoticed to most, but by assigning Barbie a real career, people are able to identify with and recognize her. The marketers also provide Barbie with a life other than modeling, such as friends and a home. The Ken doll, which is commonly known as Barbie’s boyfriend, makes her appear more real to the audience. Girls are able to identify with the idea of a boyfriend, which makes the notion of Barbie seem more realistic and desirable. The same idea is applied to the many friends Barbie has been accompanied by over the years. Lastly, and perhaps most famously, Barbie, like almost all of the girls who play with her, have a home. The Barbie Dream House is just another clever way her marketing team has presented her to society as a real person. Humanizing Barbie, and portraying her in such a manner makes her more attractive to potential buyers. The girls who engage in play with dolls do not want merely a doll; they desire something they can relate to and envision in the real world. Imaginative play is a large portion of childhood, and the ability for children to posses a doll like Barbie , who represents a real person in society, is extremely valuable. The use of social constructionism in the marketing of products such as Barbie is both brilliant and effective.
