Bethany Hamilton was born in Kauai, Hawaii in 1990. One Halloween morning in 2003 her life would change forever. On that day a shark bit off her arm while she was surfing. Soul Surfer is a book about this 13 year old girl and her battle to overcome life’s obstacles. Bethany wrote the nonfiction narrative to explain how this tragic incident changed her life. The attack put her life and what matters into perspective. She believes everything happens for a reason. Competitive surfing is all Bethany ever knew . Because of the great amount of time she put into her training as a surfer, she did not experience the same types of things that other kids her age did. She went to public school until the 4th grade. After that she was homeschooled by
her mother. She was taught regular school subjects with the difference being Bethany had to learn in her spare time, when she was not surfing. Her life started to change. Everything was surfing and there was no time for things like hanging out with her friends, going to school dances or other activities kids her age do. Then in one split second on a Halloween morning her life would be thrown into a whirlwind and nothing would ever be the same again. Bethany’s shark attack and how she overcame the tragedy is what the story is about. She overcame her loss with a lot of physical and occupational therapy along with her faith in God. Only a few months after her accident, Bethany was able to get back into the water. She was even able to surf with one arm. Bethany opened her life to the public by writing her story and has inspired many people. She knows there is no explanation as to why this happened to her. As she stated in her book, this could have happened to any one of the surfers out in the ocean. She overcame her loss and has not let it ruin her life. Bethany is now in her late 20s. Her story inspires people to not give up. She overcame the loss of her arm and wasn't afraid to go back into the ocean to do what she loves best, surf.

Others may claim that Bethany Hamilton is not an inspirational character just because she lost her arm to a shark. In Rise Above it also shows that you can't always count on God with every little problem, you have to try harder in order to be successful. So this proves that just by never giving up on herself and believing in her faith and God she became a professional surfer just like she was planning to before her shark attack. She kept going after her dream and she conquered what she wanted without anything taking away that from her. In Soul Surfer Bethany never gave up and she kept trying even though she had to retrain herself how to surf.

Birth of the Cool, the eleven track Capitol record, released in 1957, was actually recorded earlier in 1949 and 1950. As one of the most influential jazz albums of all time, its title depicts the genesis of cool jazz. In the evolution of jazz this post bebop style of the late 1940s through the 1950s was a departure from the emphasis in bebop on virtuoso players in fast tempos with focus on melodies and syncopated rhythms. Cool jazz aimed to be a more subdued, smooth and subtle form of jazz music with a lighter tone, slower tempos and controlled ensemble playing. Cool jazz re-popularized jazz back into the mainstream American music scene.
Freddie Mercury(piano/vocals), Jimi Hendrix(lead guitar), Tommy Lee(drummer), John Deacon(bass),Gregg Rolie(vocals/keyboard), produced by Herbie Herbert! The best band that could exist in my opinion, only the best are a part of this band of legends. While i’m using some of my personal favorites i’ve also picked some of the best there is. Freddie Mercury was a part of the band Queen that produced the popular song “Bohemian Rhapsody” which is enjoyed to this day even by some of the younger groups showing the quality of their music. Jimi Hendrix, one of the most creative and voted the best guitarist of all time, would play the lead guitar because of his exceptional skill and versatility. Tommy Lee also one of the most loved drummers, one of his
Music has been a part of human culture since the beginning of time. It has been used for communication, self-expression, entertainment, religious worship, and personal health management. One of the only styles of music that is native to the United States is jazz music. Dating all the way back to slavery, jazz music started as field songs sung by African American slaves laboring away in the fields. Since then, Jazz music has slowly progressed to country blues, city blues, ragtime, dixieland, swing, be-bop, cool jazz, latin jazz, and fusion. Though jazz is not as popular now as it was in the 1940s, it has influenced modern music by giving way to rock, funk, hip-hop, and pop music.

Without warning, a Tiger shark attacked her surfboard, dragging her back and forth and then disappearing into the ocean. Bethany was able to compose herself to use her right arm to swim back to the shore. She was later taken to hospital with severe injuries, where her left arm was amputated. She came through her recovery with things that were important to her, such as her family and her Christian faith. Despite the trauma of the incident, Hamilton was determined to return to surfing. Just 10 weeks after the accident, she returned to the ocean and went surfing again. She adjusted to the change by using a custom made surfboard and changing her surfing style. Bethany taught herself to surf with only one arm and she also began surfing competitively in competitions again. Hamilton claims that the loss of her arm was a blessing in disguise.
Throughout their career, the Beach Boys emerged as the most popular surf band. The band includes the three Wilson brothers, Brian, Carl, and Dennis, and their cousin Mike Love, along with their friend Al Jardine. With Mike as lead vocals, Bria on bass, Dennis on drums, Carl on lead guitar, and Al on rhythm guitar, they were the only band to challenge the Beatles’ success for a small time. Unfortunately, Brian’s drug use and obsession with beating the Beatles eventually led to a nervous breakdown and he was no longer a consistent participant. In the mid 1962’s, The Beach Boys released “Surfin’ Safari,” which hit the top 20 charts and helped popularize the “surf rock craze.” “Surfin’ USA,” which was similarly themed, was released in 1963 and hit the top ten charts. The next year,
