For this assignment, I was given an opportunity to choose a biography from our school library. Little did I know, there was a great selection of biographies that I was interested in. The book was to be read on the winter break, and when we come back, our class was going to write a report about their books. My choice was a biography by Philip Norman “Mick Jagger”. Philip Norman, an English novelist, was born April 13 ,1943. Norman wrote a vast amount of biographies, including “Shout!” which was written about the notorious band “The Beatles”. The New York Times described his biography: “intelligently written and exhaustively researched”. Michael Philip Jagger was born the 26th of July 1943, in Dartford, England. Since they weren’t wealthy, they borrowed most of they equipment from a friend. The very first showed they played under the name “Rolling Stones”, was at the now world famous Marquee Club in London. Numerous bands in the 1960’s played their first shows there before having the fame they have today. The lineup of the band then was: Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Dick Taylor, and Tony Chapman. Later, after the band performed locally, they toured England, gaining fame and popularity. After the tour, Keith and Mick started writing songs again. In 1965, they wrote their single, “Satisfaction”, an international sensation. Later, they recorded several very successful albums. Later in 1967, Mick and Keith experienced some unpleasant situations with the Police. Both of them were charged with drug possession. In the end they both spent a night in prison, and were released the following day. In 1971, had an unfortunate moment. Brian Jones passed away. After this incident, the band completely changed their style and appearance. Brian’s replacement Ronnie Wood, was a close friend of Mick’s and Keith’s. When the band was still touring and writing music for new albums, Mick started a solo career. In 1985, Jagger’s first solo album “ She’s The Boss”, was released. The solo album was a huge accomplishment and a huge success. Mick got the privilege to be a guest vocalist on Michael Jackson’s song “State Of Shock”. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s Jagger continued his solo career and also with his band. In 1989, the band released “Steel Wheels”. The released, busted all the myths of the hatred between Mick and Keith. Later in 1993, Mick’s third album “Wandering Spirit”, dropped to the public. This particular album was #10 in the U.S charts and #13 in the UK charts. The band continued to tour the world, releasing new music, earning respect and popularity.
