Nelson Mandela once said himself, “It always seems impossible until it's done.”. This, I feel, perfectly describes how he felt during his historical fight for freedom. In this essay, I am going to explain why Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest freedom fighters of all time. My first piece of evidence to support this claim is that while he was in power, Mr. Mandela worked with the government to change his country, South Africa's, Constitution, in order to make it anti-racial, and fair to everyone, no matter what their skin color was. To be able to change you country’s entire constitution to make it not bias and anti-racial is a HUGE step and it takes a lot of perseverance to even get to that stage. This was a big deal because, during his time, Mr. Mandela’s country was known to be bias towards white people and was racist towards the native South Africans. Even after the election, the Black citizens of South Africa were happy. One of them even said that they felt like an ‘actual part’ of their country. Now, some might say that even though Mr. Mandela got the Nobel Peace Prize, or any peaceful award, he used violence to initially gain freedom. While this may be true, sometimes, as we have seen in the past, people may have to resort to violence to make an impact, to be understood, or even to be noticed. Of course, at the very least these act of violence should only be used for what is right and moral. Mr. Mandela also once said “The greatest glory of living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”. This quote perfectly symbolizes that even though he was sentenced to prison for so long, he rose back up and fought until he got the rights that he had sacrificed much
