How would react if the water you drink could kill you? What if the pesticides that you put in you garden end up in your drinking water? Thats the possibility of your pesticides and pollutants that runoff into nearby rivers or lakes. For example, if you put a pesticide into your garden to keep rodents from eating your vegetables, then a rain storm comes and washes all those chemicals down into tributaries and small creeks run into larger bodies of water. Although lawn chemicals are a big part of the runoff pollution, some pollutants are as simple as the grass clipping from you lawn mower. There is Nonpoint source pollution which is pollution that is doesn't come from one single source. Point source pollution is where the pollution comes from …show more content…
A bacteria that public waters system check for is called coliform, coliform is not a deadly bacteria but can indicate that there is a dangerous pathogen in the water. This is an example of runoff getting in the water supply and if this goes undetected hundreds of people could die from this. Pesticides, Herbicides, or fertilizer all pollute to water supplies if it end up in a water system. Putting a sufficient amount of lawn fertilizer is fine, but when you put too much on to get your lawn to grow faster is when the excess gets runoff into rivers. For the most part the main nutrients in fertilizers are nitrogen and phosphorus. The nutrients in these fertilizers makes the plant speed up growth, and to produce more vegetables or for the grass taller. Nitrogen is a nitrate, and the nitrate is what damages the water sources. If the phosphorus is not mixed with soil after applied it will run-off the grass the next time it rains. Phosphorus cause the water to get cloud, and also make a green algae in the water but most importantly causes a depletion of oxygen in the water which kills fish. also It only takes a tiny bit of pollution from one lawn to impact the body of water, because think of all the other people that had too much fertilizer in their lawn. Another problem is that some people use wells for water, but when too much is applied it soaks into the groundwater. So when the people get their water out of the well they are drink water that quite possibly could be
There are many issues regarding the raising and producing of various livestock animals, and the use of pesticides on various types of crops. The movie Food.Inc does a good job explaining these issues, but in a very biased way. It makes agriculturists look like terrible people, when this is not the case.
Colony Collapse Disorder and Pesticides From around the year 2006, many bee farmers in the U.S.A and some parts of Europe started reporting sharp declines in their bee stocks. The reason for these declining numbers was not known and therefore scientists named it colony collapse disorder (CCD). Colony collapse disorder (CCD) is a not very old phenomenon and it became popular when large numbers of bee colonies started disappearing. The disappearance was mysterious since no dead bees were found in or around the beehives after a colony’s number was reported to have gone down or vanished.
Have you ever thought about how your fruits and vegetables are grown? How about which ingredients are put into bug sprays and insecticides to ward off those pesky insects? Look no further because author Rachel Carson looks deep into the many environmental issues caused by pesticides and herbicides in her New York Times best-selling novel, “Silent Spring.” “Silent Spring” is a collection of studies which were performed in an effort to educate others about the harmful things occurring everyday to their foods and every-day environment in hopes of giving them a wake up call. This novel is thought by many to be a revolutionary novel that forced people to take notice of the harm being caused in their world, many of which people were unaware of. After discovering the results of these chemicals, it really makes one wonder, is the luxury of being insect free really worth all of the consequences?
A question commonly associated with the word insecticides is, what are they? Well I have the answer, insecticides are chemicals that are used to eliminate insects. In the agricultural industry, insecticides are classified into different categories, and the most used is carcinogenic. A carcinogenic insecticide is a substance or agent producing or causing cancer. This is just one of the reason that I believe there are more cons then pros when dealing with a insecticide.. When I was a kid , I can remember my parents taking me and my brother an apple orchard and picking apples. I couldn't wait to eat them until I got home, but we couldn't eat an apple because of what insecticides could be on the apple

Use of pesticides & other fertilizers infuse nitrogen oxide into the water bodies acidifying the water which kills the plants and aquatic animals living in
In the past 20 years, water quality in Iowa has had a sharp decline due to nitrogen and phosphorus runoff. Too many of these nutrients can lead to health and environmental problems. If infants consume too much nitrogen in their drinking water, they can get a limited supply of oxygen, which is the cause of blue baby syndrome. In the environment, too much phosphorus can lead to algal blooms, which cut off oxygen supply to other marine species. Animal confinements, agricultural fields, and urbanized lawns are some of the main causes of this crisis.
Most chemicals from these plants are discharged directly into waterways as waste (ICEM, 2007). One way is seepage: chemicals soak through the earth into groundwater from waste disposal sites and agricultural land, for example. Another way is runoff: chemicals are washed into bodies of water from the land where they were used or spilled (ICEM, 2007). Effluents can cause fish and other aquatic wildlife to experience reduced fertility, generic deformities, immune system damage, and death (ICEM, 2007). These organic wastes that enter the water are extremely dangerous to human, plant and animal
Your home is your retreat from the world, and you deserve to have the perfect landscape design greet you upon arrival. In order to have an attractive lawn this summer, you need proper preparation. Whether you opt to do it yourself or hire a residential landscaping company, these steps are essential for a healthy lawn that can survive the pests, foot traffic and heat that come with the summer sun.
There are 2.5 billion pounds of pesticides being applied to agricultural products each year in the United States. This is ten times more than was applied forty years ago. It is still unknown as to what type of exact effects these chemicals may have on individuals. Some farmers that have been using pesticides in their fields and developed leukemia are finding that the cause of their disease is from inhaling pesticides. These chemicals are still in use today and most of them have never been tested for the short or long-term effects that they may have on humans.
The most prevalent source of agricultural water pollution is soil that is washed off of fields. These fields have been treated with fertilizers and pesticides, which over time have accumulated heavy metals that are then transferred to lakes and streams. The excess particles cloud the water blocking vital oxygen and sun for the aquatic plants.
What is resistance? Resistance is the ability of a significant portion of a pest population to survive a pesticide at rates that once killed most individuals of that population. In other word, it is defined as `a heritable change in the sensitivity of a pest population to a pesticide that is resulting in the failure of a product or correct application of pesticide to achieve the expected level of control of insect.
Water pollution is one of the main concerns of the environment. It is known as a change in the chemical or physical condition of the waters. Polluting the waters is causing harmful and tragic diseases that affect many families. It is also a global problem that not only affects people but also animals and plants. Water pollution is a current issue that has serious consequences; it progresses everyday in our lakes, oceans, rivers and other bodies of water.
The pesticide is a controversial topic since farmers are used it to gain their yield. Especially, pesticide is discovered during World War II as a chemical weapon that mixture of multiple chemicals together to kill human. Therefore, Chantries redesign pesticide to kill an organism where and when we don’t want it. Because people want to go to the grocery store to buy the perfect product, pesticide makes it happens and with a little cost for farmers. Nonetheless, pesticide also is the expenditure of life expectancy, which directly threatens people and poses risk of mortality rate. Abusing the pesticide has multiple affects on our society, (Add). Water pollution is very harmful to the environment and living things. Water pollution can come from many different sources. If the pollution comes from only one source, such as an oil spill, it is called point-source pollution. If it comes from many different sources, it is called nonpoint-source pollution. Most water pollution affects the immediate area surrounding the source, but there are some types of pollution, such as hazardous, that can affect areas miles away from the source. Water pollution is something that can be prevented; it is important to be aware of the causes of water pollution to keep the environment safe and clean for the many generations to come.
