Katie Ledecky: Leadership Review A leader is defined any many different ways, but one way that pops out the most is defined as the state or position of being a leader. There have been many leaders in this world, but one that has recently came to conquer in her own sport is Katie Ledecky. Katie can be described in four ways, a leader, confident, strong minded, and a world record holder. Katie Ledecky is a woman everyone should look up to, not just her confidence in swimmer but as a person as well and how she dedicates herself to this one particular sport who she puts her heart in. She has proven that she can do anything and is capable of winning both long distance events and sprinter events. She currently holds world records in the 800 and 1500 meter freestyles with gold medals. Katie had one 4 gold medals and 1 silver at the Rio Olympics. Katie has became the 1st woman to win many events. The champion swimmer had been accepted to Stanford University and is there today. She currently swims on the team there as well. She has shown her true leadership skills and confidence to everyone. All female swimmers today look up to her and see that if she can do it, then anyone can do it. Katie has shown a lot of potential little kid swimmers that you have to put your mind to it and be confident the whole. Katie has become a successful swimmer because her mind is in the game. She works really hard at practices and wakes up at 4 in the morning and swims at least 6,000 yards to 65000 yards in the morning everyday. She tries to avoid the crows so she can focus on herself and her swim skills. She likes to swim really by herself so no one distracts her. Katie encourages herself to never give up and stop. Katie Ledecky is a leader and a lot of swimmers look up to her for skills in the pool, leadership skills, and confidence skills as well. She is a world recorder holder, and has at least over 10 gold medals. Even though she might have to pay tax money on the medals, she still wants to be a record holder and greatest swimmer of all
Lynne met an Egyptian swimmer, and he explained what to expect in the English Channel, especially the cold. She got used to the cold by wearing only sandals, shorts, and t-shirts all day. When she got to England, she needed to find a pilot to help guide her through the waters. Her pilot, recommended that she swim from England to France. During the race, at 11pm, she bumped into bunch of lettuce and she fight against the current. She was determined to break the world record. To finish the race, she had to land on the rocks. When she did, she had lots of cuts from the rocks and mussels. She broke the record with 9 hours and 57 minutes. When she swam Cook Strait, she was a bit stubborn and angry at her dad and coach, but she finished the race. She was the first to swim the Strait of Magellan, Bering Strait, and Cape of Good Hope. It was hard for Lynne to swim the Strait of Magellan because they occurred a few problems. She could barely stay in the cold water for two hours, the storms didn’t help out the situation, and when she almost made it to the shore, the whirlpool almost dragged her in. Gabby Douglas was the first African-American female gymnast in Olympic history to become the individual All-Around champion. In the 2012 Olympic Games, she won gold in the team competition and the individual competition. She is a gymnastics phenom. From the beginning of her career to where she is today, she has been a true trooper through everything. Gabrielle Douglas is an inspiration to me and many others because she overcame being homeless,moved in with a new family, and won Olympic gold in gymnastics.
Gertrude Ederle was born in New York City on October 23, 1905. She was one of five children of Henry and Anna Ederle, German immigrants who owned a butcher shop on Manhattan's Upper West Side. From a young age she was passionate about swimming, which she learned at the local public pool and at the New Jersey beach where her family spent summers. As a kid she left school to practice as an athletic swimmer. Later she joined the Women’s Swimming Association. She had her first win at the age of 16, between 1921 and 1925 holding 29 records. Ederle swam at the Olympic Games in Paris, where her freestyle team won three straight medals. In 1925, she began training to swim across live television. Twenty-one miles of water between England and the European mainland. Other men swimmers had already crossed the channel but she was trying to be the first woman to ever achieve the goal.
Bethany is resilient because she was one of the amateur surfers of Hawaii. If you don't know what resilient means , Well it means that you are a hard worker. That is one of the reasons that I think Bethany Hamilton is resilient .I mean the girl was an amateur at the age of 13 ,so don't you think that it took a lot of work to get there.
Hope Amelia Solo was born on the 30th of July in 1981 in Richland, Washington. As a young child, she was a forward for a soccer team and showed amazing potential at a young age. She scored 109 goals while in this position and was peerless. Her real career did not start until her high school years which led to her being named an All-American twice by Parade magazine. Her college accomplishments led to her being named to the 2004 Olympic team (“Hope” 1). Hope attended the Univeristy of Washington for all four years of her college career. While in college, she earned NSCAA All-American honors in her last three years. Cheryl Miller was truly a pioneer in women's basketball. She played her high school days at Riverside Polytechnic High school where she was a four year varsity letter winner and led her team to a 132-4 record. In 1981, she was awarded the Dial Award for the national high school scholar athlete of the year. She is named an All-American 4 times by Parade Magazine. She was the first player, male or female, to accomplish this feat. She averaged 39 points and 15 rebounds all throughout high school. She even owns the record for the highest amount of points scored in a basketball game by any male or female with 105 (Breaking News). Even in her career at the University Of Southern California (USC) she accomplished amazing things. She is sixth all time in NCAA history in career points with 3,018. She is third all-time in rebounding with 1,534 (Breaking News). She also has two NCAA titles as well as two tournament MVP's in both of those years. She holds eight records at USC. She also has three Olympic Gold medals. She is also the first USC player, male or female, to have her number retired. (Breaking News). Kelli White was born on April 1, 1977 in Oakland California to parents who were both sprinters. She attended high school in Union City, California and ran track. She was 12 when Remi Korchemny became her coach (Plitt). She would reunite with him after graduating college (Plitt). When Kelli White was 17, she was attacked and cut by a knife. Even though her injury required more than 300 stitches, she continued to run that year (Plitt). When White graduated in 1995, she held the record in the 200 meter dash and had the second best time in the 100 meter dash in the North Coast Section. She went to the University of Tennessee on a scholarship and graduated in 1999 (Plitt).
Kerri Walsh Jennings is an Olympic beach volleyball player that has won three consecutive gold medals. As a matter of fact Kerri is and was motivated by her family to make a difference. She has three children and is happily married to Casey Jennings. Likewise Her husband Casey has also been apart of her beach Volleyball career. In addition, Kerri Walsh Jennings is a influential advocate of advancing kids health and activity through her actions of working with the LA84 Foundation, her shooting stars program and donations to schools.
After high school, she went to Oklahoma University and became three-time National, Champion in women’s wrestling and became four-time All-American. She even filled in for the boy’s college wrestling team time to time. Above all, she opened a door for girls everywhere, who wanted to do what they believed in. Later girls in high schools across Alaska became more interested in wrestling and decided to play and some other girls won the state championship as well. And some of the girls went ahead and played in the tournament to get the national championship. She gave females the ability to know they are as good as men in contact sports.
Swimming is an activity that’s been around for a long time. Some of its first forms have been in ancient caves that have illustrations of people swimming. Some others include in the Greek epic poems “The Illiad” and “The Odyssey.” During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, swimming began to be a structured activity and later on in history became a popular sport. In 1896, it was a portion of the Olympics in Athens, Greece and it continues to be part of the summer Olympics. Currently, swimming is the second most popular exercise in the United States with millions of people partaking in it.

This is what my coach said to me before my very last breaststroke race of the season last summer. What does this mean? you might ask. That’s exactly what I asked myself before I got into the water. There are many ways to have a perfect breaststroke.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)

Finish, Finish, Go, and Go you just set the new world record. Every four years lots of people gather around a pool cheering for Olympians. It is a very noisy place. A lot of Olympians that are part of the summer Olympics are very athletic, they swim all year around. The swimming Olympic history and background is very interesting. They have done so many new things over that past couple of years. They come out with new rules every year to make things more fair and challenging. There are a lot of events and tons of records that have been broke. A lot of Olympians have set future goals to stride for. I was swimming the 200 meter fly I was at a really good time when I had 50 meter sprint left at the end all I could think about was I’m going to set the new world record. Olympic swimming is a very fun sport it is very athletic. Every year in the summer time every one always sits around a TV watching this it is very famous in America. Swimmers from all around the world come and here and compete. There is a lot of competition there I have found out a lot about the history of swimming. There are a lot of events and tons of records that have been broke. A lot of Olympians have set future goals to stride for.
