He went through a very rough time to become president. I recently watched a movie over his presidency, this movie was called Invictus. In this paper I will be telling you about the movie and proving weather it is historically correct. I will also be comparing and contrasting how the movie portrayed the actual people and events.

Invictus was directed by Clint Eastwood and produced by the Warner Brothers in 2009. The main actors were Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman (Invictus). In this movie segregation was still in full effect. Nelson Mandela was sworn in as president. His first day in office Mr. Mandela told the workers that they were welcomed to stay but they didn’t have to. Nelson Mandela then goes to a rugby match and examined the team. A little boy goes to a charity and a lady gave him a Springbok jersey. The little boy wouldn’t take it because he would have gotten beaten up. Mandela goes to a sports meeting and tries to convince the sports association not to drop the rugby team. In the next scene Mandela gets his check and thinks is too much so he donates it to charity. He also travels all around the world for support of South Africa. The Rugby captain meets with Mr. Mandela and realizes that the president wants the team to win the world cup. The coaches of the team makes them go around South Africa for sport clinics. While the teams arrive at the clinics all the kids cheer for Chester. After that Mandela writes down the “Invictus” poem. The Rugby captain gives the team the South African National Anthem. Mandela goes to Rugby team to wish them good luck, he takes the captain to the side and gives him the Invictus poem for inspiration. The team then goes to see the prison were Mandela had stayed. That is where Francois (team captain/Matt Damon) learns his respect for Mandela. After this the team beats France and goes to world cup. At the world cup game a plan comes and flies over the stadium. On the bottom of the plan it said good luck Bok. To start of the game the team sang the South African National Anthem. As the game begun the New Zealand does a taunt dance to scare the Springboks. The teams ended up tying and went into overtime. The Springboks win the world cup and begin to celebrate on the field together. Francois tells
A man call Rainsford got in a wreck and ended up in a island, where he met General Zaroff and found out that he hunts people for fun. Zaroff wanted Rainsford to be his hunting partner. Rainsford disagreed with his idea so, Zaroff decided to make Rainsford his challenge and made a bet that if Rainsford wins he gets to gets to get out of the island. Rainsford ended up killing him and won.
This boy named Rodney was at a boarding school and lost a huge fortune because his guardian lost it for him. Then he had to leave and go to New York City to try to make a profit. There on the train to New York he met this guy named Joel who was a salesman on the train there was a sudden jolt and Rodney and his new friend Joel got out of their seats but Rodney left his box of jewelry on his seat and someone stole it. Then the Bell boys go to the rec center, JB goes of with Miss Sweet Tea and Josh plays a one on one game with his dad. Josh is beating him, and then Mr.Bell steals the ball and tries to show off to the people watching and tries to dunk but before he does. The Hardy boys, Frank and Joe, were driving down Shore Road and they heard a report about a stolen car. Frank and Joe raced towards the scene and saw the stolen car. Suddenly, a big red produce truck came right into the middle of the road. The boys had to slam on their brakes. He served as the South African President from the year 1944 to 1999. He is known as the first South African chief executive, and also the first person to be elected in a free and Democratic election. After uprising numerous riots against apartheid forces, Mandela was sent to jail for twenty-seven years revealing the cruelty that humans can possess. With the strong will power and complete support of the African people, Mandela survived his prison sentence and became the first democratically elected president of South Africa exposing the strength in human nature by showing that humans can persevere through tough times. Mandela left a profound impact on the African people by saving them from corrupt Apartheid rule and bringing a democratic government. Thus teaching the world that in an event where a body of people is suppressed, they will inevitably rebel by any means necessary to gain their freedom.

Born on July 18, 1918, Nelson Mandela grew up like many other children in his tribe. He was born in Mvezo, South Africa and had no shoes till he was sixteen. “On the first day of classes I sported my new boots. I had never worn boots before of any kind” (“Nelson Mandela”). When Mandela wore his new boots to class, his class mates were amused because of the way he walked in them. A few students actually stood up and embarrassed him in the presence of the class. “The country boy is not used to wearing shoes” (“Nelson Mandela”). Although he was embarrassed, he moved on, lived his life and went to Fort Hare University, but because of tradition his Chief stopped his studies and prepared an arranged marriage. Mandela was not interested in the girl his chief chose, so he decided to avoid the marriage. “But he was no Democrat and did not think worthwhile to consult me about a wife. He selected a girl, fat and dignified” (“Nelson Mandela”).
Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest leaders of our time. In the movie Invictus, the devotion and love he had for the South African people is exemplified. The movie was named after a Victorian poem that brought President Mandela strength while in prison. The meaning of Invictus is “Undefeated”, a perfect fit for this movie. The opening scene of the movie shows President Mandela being freed from jail and driving past a field of young boys playing soccer. All the boys start chanting the Presidents name and running to the fences to get a better look. This is the first scene, and an obvious show of support and following for Mr. Mandela.
