Many people think less of people that have a lower IQ. For example, in the short story ‘’Flowers for Algernon’’ most people look down on Charlie for his IQ of 68. I believe that the surgery was a bad idea for Charlie because he was happy all of the time and also he did not get upset at the people making fun of him. I believe it was a bad idea for Charlie to get the surgery. It was bad for him to get the surgery because before he did not know that they were making fun of him and he did not get upset so before he had a happier life because he did not get upset. This is shown when in the story he said ‘’Joe Carp said I should show the girls how to mop out the toilet in the factory and he got me a mop. To conclude that is one of the reasons that I think that the surgery should not have been done to Charlie because it did not have good outcomes. I believe that the surgery was a bad idea because Charlie only had benefits for a short time, then they went away. Some people may think that the surgery was good because he learned what people were really like with him however, this is not true because then after he learned that the people did not actually like and want him around so he made a not so good thing and he ran away and went to new york that is why that he would have been better without the surgery because we could of had a better ending because now we are just left wondering what happened to him. Also, it shows that in the story before the surgery he was happier and more curious. When the surgery was done he did not trust anyone because he knew he really knew the people now that he thought were his friends and this is shown in the story when charlie said ‘’Sometimes somebody will say hey look at joe or frank or george he really pulled a charlie gordon.
