False memory is something that causes many problems in today's society and has so many effects on different things. False memory is an apparent recollection of an event that did not actually occur. This syndrome comes up in a lot of cases today and has been for so long. It can be helpful at times but can also be dangerous. False memory is fascinating on how it works. This topic caught my attention by how it affects people in a good and bad way. During the video, she talked about how victims in a case have false memories at times and that is crazy to me because there could be prisoners out there on the loose and innocent good people locked up for life in a tiny little cell. But I think as time is moving on there is more psychologist hired to look at many cases to stop things like these. In addition, to false memory, there are definitely things that are very useful in a good way. Let's say you had a kid and you want him/her to eat the food you can implant many false memories into his/her brain to convince them to eat the food. Another thing that many parents could do is implant false memories into the brains of their young child to do good things. Like the saying every kid gets during Christmas about how Santa Claus will give you coal if you are naughty. So it tends to make the kids be good. I am very glad I watched this video because I never knew that there was false memories and didn't know how it worked. This topic of psychology amazes me and helps me see things I would have never thought

Memory is an important and active system that receives information. Memory is made up of three different stages sensory memory, short term memory, and long term memory. According to the power point presentation, sensory memory refers to short storage of memory that allows an individual to process information as it occurs. Overall, this article was very informative. I believed Loftus and Bernstein did a great job analyzing these different methods of research. I would of like the article more if the findings in thus research were more elaborate on the process. Finally, the reader is left with various detailed procedures but no definite answer on how to really tell false or true memories.

Something that I found interesting when looking through the chapters in the book was the concept of memory gaps and errors. It’s an intriguing thought that people can believe they saw one thing when they actually had not experienced that specific event. The example the book uses is really mind-opening. It describes a tragic event in which a plane lost control and crashed into a building. When people were asked about the event, the researches asked if they had seen the movie where the plane crashes. The majority of the people questioned said they had seen the movie and could remember specific events although this event was never recorded or made into a film. It really made me wonder if I have any recollections of events that I believe happened in one way but that really happened in another way.
There have been several experiments done to try to prove that false memories can indeed be formed. One experiment, for example, was tried with a 14-year-old boy. The boy was told four memories, one of which was falsely constructed but similar to that of a true memory. The memories that were suggested took place when the boy was about 10 years younger. As the false memory was retold to him, he was asked to explain in detail what he had remembered from that event. Surprisingly, he claimed to remember the event, even though it was falsely created by the interviewer and his brother, and went on to explain what he remember to have happened, details and all. After collecting everything he had said about the four memories, he was told that one of the suggested memories was made-up and he was asked to guess which one it may have been. When he couldn’t decide which one it was, he was told that it was in fact the memory of getting lost in a store. He was confused and had trouble believing the truth.
In recent years there has been a hot debate between "repressed" vs. "false" memories. Neurobiological studies show that both suppression and recall and the creation of false memories are possible. This paper evaluates the evidence but forth by both sides of the controversy and concludes that both are feasible and separate phenomenon, which occur at significant rates in our society.
Medical advancement coupled with psychology, and behavioral science may potentially hold the combination lock to curing this world of trauma and strife. We now live in a world in which modern medicine and neuroscience can potentially remove a person’s negative memory and change their response to trauma. Whether or not this capacity is ethical or moral is an entirely different issue that requires an in depth analysis of the potential uses of such treatments. Are they morally permissible? Can they help us lead better lives? Could the potential for abuse create moral hazards much worse than the traumas we seek to cure? All this and more must be explored if we are to draw conclusions about this modern wonder.
We can imply this finding of false memory in many ways in our lives. We all should note that our memory cannot be trusted 100% and we should not solely rely on our memory when it comes to making critical decisions. Just like the murder trial example used in earlier, when it comes to eye witnessing, the judge should take possible false memory into account when making the final decisions and try to obtain objective evidence along with the memory of the witness.
Personally, Loftus idea of implanting false memories seemed appealing and clever. I believe it can be put to good use and occur effectively. Although, after learning about ethic codes, Loftus idea seemed mainly on the opposite

Memory is the tool we use to learn and think. We all use memory in our everyday lives. Memory is the mental faculty of retaining and recalling past experiences. We all reassure ourselves that our memories are accurate and precise. Many people believe that they would be able to remember anything from the event and the different features of the situation.
