True food allergies are rare. The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) estimates that only 2% of the adult population of the United States is allergic to foods. Further, only eight foods cause 90% of all food allergic reactions. They are milk, egg, wheat, peanut, soy, tree nuts, fish and shellfish (Food Allergy Network). Many reactions to foods are really intolerance (reaction of the metabolism due to a chemical deficiency) rather than allergy (reaction of the immune system). Many infant allergies, which are later outgrown, are thought to be the result of immature immune systems. However, other allergies become stronger as the person ages and inadvertently becomes more exposed. One report on KCBS radio indicated there may be a link between mothers who ate peanuts during pregnancy and their children’s subsequent allergies.
Skin discoloration of the lower legs, ankles and feet may appear if there is increased pressure in the leg veins. The pressure may be the result of venous stasis. This is a condition in which there is poor blood flow from the legs back to the heart. It usually occurs when varicose veins have formed and the blood starts to pool in the veins and becomes stagnant. As it accumulates, small and medium sized veins may spring a tiny leak and some blood passes into the tissue. Once in the tissue, the blood breaks up and iron is released that stains the skin causing it to turn brown.
Urticaria is now commonly known as hives, it is a common allergic reaction that makes the skin form raised red itchy welts. They can also burn or sting. Anyone can be susceptible to hives since it is a very common condition. Hives form when histamine, a chemical, is released by mast cells. Histamine is usually released with an allergic reaction and it acts by causing the blood vessels to leak fluid into the nearby tissues causing skin to puff up like a mosquito bite. Releasing histamine does not need to be from an allergic reaction though; there are other circumstances where it can be released. They are usually harmless and can last up to ha...
Various treatments may be used for months or years because eczema can be very persistent. There are creams and ointments that help calm the itching and irritation to help repair the skin, which could also be prescribed by your doctor. Drugs prescribed by your doctor could also be for infections caused by open sores or cracks. There are also oral drugs prescribed to help calm the inflammation for severe cases. Wet dressings may also be necessary when the eczema is severe. This involves wrapping the affected area with topical corticosteroids and wet bandages, usually done in a hospital. If the treatment is successful, it could still be possible that it may return. Light therapy would be needed to stop it from coming back. This involves exposing the skin to controlled amounts of natural sunlight, but it has harmful effects that could cause premature skin aging and an increased risk of skin cancer. Therapies like these are important to be spoken about with your doctor if it is what's best, especially if it's for younger children since it is riskier.

and food intolerances. (Network) Now, because of the increase in the number of people afflicted with food allergies, more and more of these individuals who require special diets are dining out in restaurants which, inevitably, poses many challenges for the chef of the restaurant, the manager, and the service staff. Gordon informs us that, "Food allergies were first documented in the fourth century B.C. by Hippocrates. He noted that milk could cause hives and stomach upset." (Gordon 72) Although food allergies are not a new occurrence, throughout time there has been very little accurate information regarding food allergies and food intolerance. (Gordon 72) What is a known fact, however, is that
Rosacea is a common skin disorder of the facial skin that affects well over 16 million Americans without them knowing the condition is present. It appears as red discoloration or bumps on the surface of the skin. Over time, the redness becomes brighter and more persistent and blood vessels begin to appear on the skin. The cause of this condition is unknown, but could be caused by hereditary or environmental factors. A number of these same factors can trigger the rosacea and send blood rushing into the surface of the skin. These factors can include alcohol, extreme temperatures, sunlight/wind, emotions, exercise, and certain cosmetic items. All of these factors combined could cause a flare up of the disorder at any given time.

Human race is known to have developed numerous allergies to various known and unknown allergens. An extreme allergic reaction which can be “life-threatening”. (Mydr.com.au, 2014) is referred to as Anaphylaxis. It is a “medical emergency”(Lloyd & Sisman,2013).Statistics indicate that maximum deaths occur due to allergic reactions of various medicines. The other causative agents can be insects, food, latex, hair dye, etc(Lloyd & Sisman,2013). The most common trigger to stimulate anaphylaxis among children are food products such as peanuts, dairy, seafood etc. Exposure to any of these allergens can result in severe anaphylactic attack within 20 minutes.(Australian Resuscitation council, 2012).However the doctors discuss the history of symptoms occurring in children suffering with peanut allergy before declaring them to be anaphylactic and prescribing medication. (Unknown, 2014). Symptoms of anaphylaxis may occur in varied forms depending upon the severty of the reaction. For instance in mild cases swelling of lips, eyes or face occurs along with hives, rash, tingling of mouth and vomitting accompanied with abdominal pain. Nevertheless in extreme conditions the former symptoms may be accompanied with noisy breathing, wheezing, hoarseness and unconsciousness. (Lloyd & Sisman,2013).
The symptoms of psoriasis differ from type to type, although inflamed, scaly lesions are present in all five types. The most common form of the disease, plaque psoriasis, is identified by small bumps that begin to grow and become scaly. These lesions flake easily, but removing these patches can cause the tender skin below to bleed. In the Guttate type, small, individual, red drops form. This type does not have as much scaling as plaque psoriasis. The drops usually clear up on their own, but may also reappear as a different form of psoriasis, usually plaque. Inverse psoriasis usually occurs in places where the skin folds, such as the genitals, breasts, armpits or the backs of knees. This type will appear red, yet it will be smooth and dry. Also, no scaling will occur. Pustular psoriasis is a type that's significantly more rare. It is also more painful. In this type, blisters filled with non-infectious pus appear within a few hours and then dry up and peel within another two days. Severe medical risks exist for those who have this particular form of psoriasis, due to its side effects; exhaustion, anemia, weight loss, fever, chills, rapid pulse rate, severe itching and muscle weakness. Even less common than pustular psoriasis is erythrodermic psoriasis. This type is...
Within the documentation of Dr. Bonomos’ notes, he described the skin rash “with papules and severe itching.” Dr. Bonomo also wrote about the transmission of the mite, of which modern day descriptions are identical to his. Itching with rash and papules may affect much of the body, or be limited to more common sites, such as the wrists, waist, between the fingers, buttocks and shoulder blades. Most diagnosis of the scabies infestation is made upon the appearance and distribution of rash and the presence of burrows, but a definitive diagnosis is made by a skin scrapin...
