Life for a craftsmen in the Middle Ages was and could be difficult and challenging. Some starting at higher social ranks than others, being treated like less. Facing death, plague, sickness, disease, sadness, famine, poverty, and pain. All a risk craftsmen might go through, or already had. And some, never having a place to call home and rest without having to leave the next day or month. Craftsmen in the Middle Ages had one of the most difficult and dangerous jobs in the time period, maybe even today.
In those times there were a lot of gentleman, laborers, and people who didn’t know what to do or had unknown ocupations. In May 1607 only 82 out of 110 people had known occupations and in January 1608 only 69 out of 120 had known occupations. (Smith 59). The report of captain John Smith also states “Note: A gentleman was a person of wealth who was not used to working with his hands. Boyes were young servants.” This shows that most people were not able to do anything to help contribute to the community, have an unknown occupation which helped none, or the were devoted to work for the gentleman which only helped the people who did nothing. You can also see that if they did have an occupation then there was only one of them or none (Smith 59). This is important because the lack of skill made a huge impact on how emergencies were handled and how they lived. In conclusion, they couldn’t do anything to help life on the

Power tools are the best option for woodworking. Hand tools can take hours of stressful and mind numbing repetition. For example hand sanding can take forever depending on what they are sanding and it is very stressful on the arms after a while. Instead, power sanders are very helpful and they can complete the job a lot easier and quicker. When it comes to power tools let the tools do the cutting and do not force the saw. Although power tools are very helpful they still require practice to use a tool perfectly and to prevent an injury. Power tools speed up the building process of any wooden structure.
In addition to preparing for a new project, a woodworker should carefully read and understand the instructions of any tool that they handle. Woodworkers use power tools for the sake of convenience as they provide precision, gives cleaner cuts to the wood, and makes the cutting process quicker. In contrast, amateur woodworkers often fear power tools, for instance table saws, due to the possibility of sustaining an injury. As stated
Woodworking, a form of carpentry, has been around for centuries and overtime developed into a more modern art. Today people will mostly see woodwork in homes in the form of furniture and decorations, or even smaller things such as family heirlooms passed down by generations and simple crafts made by younger generations. The skill of woodworking, however, is not inherited but takes practice and years of experience to fully master. Even experienced woodworkers run into challenges sometimes. The key is to overcome that obstacle and find different ways to create something new from a piece of wood. It is interesting to see and go through the process in which a woodworker goes through
Carpenters have been around for a very long time. Carpentry is mentioned in the Bible several times, which lets you know it is a very old occupation. It has been described as one of the earliest occupations and trades that are still practiced today. Even though woodworking and woodcarving developed more recently into an art, man has long used woodworking to better their lives. The word “carpenter” has its roots in ancient times being a derivative of the ancient Latin word “carpentrius” meaning “maker of a carriage.” The Chinese, who are thought to be one of the earliest civilizations to use carpentry, date their woodworking back to 720 B.C. Many details were developed during this time by the Chinese. They used precise measurements to make pots, tables, and other pieces of furniture from wood. We know about the Egyptians and their knowledge of carpentry thanks to archaeologists unearthing many woodcarving pieces found in Egyptian tombs. Some archaeologists believe that the Egyptians were the first to put "finishes" on their wood workings. Finishing is putting some type of protective sealant on your wooden material to preserve it longer. The Roman’s carpenter’s tools included raps, adzes, and saws. The knowledge of woodworking possessed by the Egyptians, Chinese, and Romans was most certainly spread to other parts of the civilized world in ancient times.
