The canine is the term for the dog, they are known as "man's best friend" or "family member". This breed is known for is companionship, loyalty, and unconditional love. They range from tiny teacup to huge greyhounds. Some have short hair like a Chihuahua or very long hair like a Pomeranian. They have been bred throughout the years to make the specific type of breeds that can do different tasks such as, working dogs, service dogs, police dogs, or even for looks.
Some unique features the canine has according to (John, 2009)“Dogs have a wider variety of bone size and shape than any other species of animal (John, 2009).” The shoulder blade isn’t completely connected to the rest of the skeleton, which helps them with speed and flexibility. The top five reasons why they take their dogs is because of ear infections, skin allergies, eye infections, pyoderma, and panosteitis. Ear infections are most common in floppy eared dogs because air isn't able to flow through it, resulting in inflammation or an infection. Eye infection can occur if the dog has too much tear production causing the fur around the eye to accumulate dirt and if not cleaned properly or regularly it can cause infection. Pyoderma is pus underneath the skin causing inflammation. This can last as long as the dog is still growing. An example of a breed this happens to is a Great Dane. Panosteitis usually occurs in dogs that are six to sixteen months (Russell, 2011). There is no known cause for why this happens, but there are causes. The causes are stress, infection, or the body’s own metabolic and immune responses (Russell, 2011). Symptoms that can occur is a fever with a lack of appetite, and limping can also occur. A distinct sign to tell if you dog has it is if the dog shows pain if you touch where the bone hurts in the dog.To diagnose this dog having panosteitis is x-rays to show that the bone is inflamed. The x-rays will be taken of multiple bones and joints because panosteitis can occur in multiple bones, not just one.
As for the diagnosis, the main goal is to make the dog comfortable by feeling less pain. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or corticosteroids are prescribed (Russell, 2011). It is believed that diets with high protein or calories play a role in this disease so it is recommended to make sure the dogs diet should be avoided to help slow down the rapid
