American Sniper

One man is torn between staying at home with his family or going off to war. American Sniper, based on a true story, is one of the best drama/action movies from 2014, starring Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle and Sienna Miller as Taya Kyle. Growing up in Texas, Kyle is taught how to shoot a rifle and hunt deer by his father. Later on in his life, Kyle becomes a rodeo cowboy. He then qualifies for special training and becomes a U.S. Navy SEALs sniper after he sees news coverage of the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings. Shortly after getting married, he is sent to Iraq after the September 11 attacks in 2001 to fight against the terrorist group al-Zarqawi. While he is at war, he goes on to become the deadliest sniper in U.S. Military history. American Sniper has been nominated for and won countless awards which include: Being an Oscar nominee for Best Motion Picture of the Year, being an Oscar nominee for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and winning an Oscar for Best Achievement in Sound Editing (Awards). American Sniper is a movie that tells a great story, uses very detailed battle scenes, and has actors doing an excellent job.

American Sniper is an outstanding film because of the story that it tells and the many tough calls and decisions that a person in the army has to make, snipers in particular. The movie begins with tanks mobilizing and patrolling the streets in Iraq. On the top of a building, Chris Kyle is looking through the scope of his sniper rifle, and he sees someone coming out from a building into the streets. As Kyle zooms in on the person, he finds that there are two people: A mother and her son. Before Kyle fires any shots, he tries to confirm with the soldiers on the ground via walkie talkie that they see the same thing that he sees. The soldiers cannot confirm anything, which forces Kyle to make the decision himself. As he continues to look, he sees that the mother is holding something under her arm. Kyle zooms in and finds out that it is a Russian made RKG-3 anti-tank grenade. The mother hands it to the child, who begins to approach the tanks with the grenade in his hands. Kyle is forced to shoot the young boy, striking him right in the heart. The mother then picks up the grenade and charges at the tanks, forcing Kyle to kill her as well. This shows how Chris Kyle is forced to make tough decisions throughout the movie.
In addition, American Sniper shows viewers many different war and battle scenes that leave people on the edges of their seats, and keeps their hearts racing and wanting to see more. The director of American Sniper, Clint Eastwood, does an outstanding job of making the movie live like and full of action. The most occurring technique that Eastwood uses would be the sound of battle and the way that it was edited. The sounds of the bullets coming out of the guns and the sounds that are made when the bullets strike an object makes the scenes of battle look like it was actually taken from a real war. Another good technique that is used in this movie is keeping the audience guessing. Taya Kyle, Chris’ wife in the movie, wants Chris to stay home so that he can help her raise their son instead of going back to Iraq for a second tour. Chris is distracted by memories of the war when he is back home and Taya’s concern for the both of them as a couple; she wishes that he would focus on the fact that he is home and the family that he has. Although Chris is showing signs that he wants to stay home, he decides to go back to Iraq for a second time, where he is promoted to Chief Petty Officer. Chris then returns home to a newborn daughter after killing al-Zarqawi’s second in command, also known as “The Butcher.” While he is back at home for a second time, Kyle becomes increasingly distant from his family, which leads to go back to Iraq for a third tour. Kyle’s third trip to Iraq is a rough one. A deadly sniper on the other side, Mustafa, causes many problems for Kyle’s team. Mustafa seriously injures and kills a U.S. soldier. Guilt compels Kyle to make a fourth tour to Iraq, making him even more distant from his family. His wife tells him that she and the two kids might not be there when Kyle returns. Because Chris Kyle is torn between the war and home, it keeps the viewers wanting to know what will happen next and it will keep them on their heels.
Furthermore, The amazing acting jobs done by Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller show the relationship of a couple that is separated by war. The casting director did a phenomenal job of choosing these two talented actors for their parts. The toughness and heart that Chris Kyle has is balanced out by his loving and caring wife, Taya Kyle. Chris has a never say no mentality in whatever he does. The effort and toughness that he shows to be the best that he can be makes him great. The heart that he has and his passion towards his country shows his fellow SEALs that he takes his job as a sniper very seriously. The director uses the many scenes of war to give a more detailed look at what Chris Kyle was going through in Iraq. Many of the war scenes show Kyle on the top of a building, looking for his next target. Other scenes show Kyle operating on the ground with a machine gun instead of on top of a building as a sniper. While Chris is home, his wife Taya is always there for him. Although she does not support his many decisions to go back to Iraq, she still shows that she loves him. She shows her love for him when she tries to get him to stay with her and help her raise their baby boy. She also shows her love for him by calling him on his radio while he is at war. Both Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller do excellent jobs at playing the role that the both of them have in the movie.
Finally, American Sniper shows the dedication and poise that it takes to be a part of the military.

Chris Kyle was good with a rifle because his father would take him deer hunting. Chris never would have thought of going into the military until he saw that terrorism is making the United States suffer. In order for Kyle to become a SEAL, he had to go through training that was not easy. To start off, Kyle had to be away from his wife, which was a hard thing to have to do. He then had to go through the training that a SEAL had to do. The training that Kyle goes through is brutal; however, he knew that he was going through it all for his country. After he officially becomes a SEAL, he is then stationed in Iraq. The many times that he is in Iraq, he has to apply everything that he learned from his training to the

war.
This movie is magnificent and a great drama/action movie because of how realistic and nerve-wrecking it is. American Sniper is based off of a true story, and is a very realistic movie that shows how hard that it is for a soldier to be away from his family and the decisions that he has to make in war. This movies has many great qualities that make it realistic and makes viewers want to know what happens next. So, I think that this suspenseful drama/action movie seems like a great choice for anyone that enjoys these types of movies.
