Using and understanding research Task 2- research methodology: Research methodology is a systematic way to solve a problem, it is a science of studying how research should be carried out. The way in which researchers go about their work of describing, explaining and predicting phenomena are called research methodology. This is also defined as the study of methods where knowledge is gained (arxiv.org, 2015).

Researchers need to understand methodology before a study is conducted in order to have a clear understanding of the research methods and for the researcher to become familiar with the research method used(Study.com, 2015).

Concepts:

Validity:
Validity is the length to which a test measures what it claims to measure(Cherry, …show more content…

For example, an experiment including 10 British females will not be representative for 10 male participants from different ethnic groups. Research methods:
Primary research:
Primary research is first hand research conducted by an individual themselves. A strength of primary research is it allows the researcher to focus on specific issues, which also allows them to have a higher level of control over the information they receive(Slideshare.net, 2015). For example, if a researcher receives information they find interesting they can then go on to find more information on it by asking questions they think will help them gain more.

Another strength of primary research is because it is first hand data it will be reliable because they will know the source they got the information from. For example, if they gave a specific group of people questionnaires to fill in they will then know who the information is coming from and that it is not being made …show more content…

For example, people may not really want to take part in the questionnaire so they may write answers down which are not true just to get it over and done with. This will then be classed as unreliable data.

Secondary research:
Secondary research is research that has already been conducted by someone else. For example, books, journals, the internet, etc. A strength of secondary research is its time saving and is easy accessible. For example, if someone needed information to use fast they can go on the internet and will have access to a range of information they can use, instead of having to create a research method to use and then go out and collect the data it will be faster to go and use someone else 's data.

Another strength of secondary research is its low cost(Knowthis.com, 2015). For example, because someone else has already conducted the research they would have been the ones to pay the expense on the equipment whereas the researcher using it now will not have to. Whereas if they were going to do primary research they would have to spend money on travel expenses, equipment, may have to pay participants to take part,
