On the other hand, tardiness may be different at a school similar to CSUF. Titan students will quickly learn that they must show up to school an hour early in order to find a parking space, if they are lucky. Due to students not being capable of finding a parking space on time, they are generally tardy to their college courses. In this case, student’s education should not be affected due to parking issues. However, colleges are not as impacted in the summer, therefore, students should not be expected to worry about finding an open location to park. I agree with Garland I feel that attendance shouldn’t be mandatory because that’s just forcing those who don’t want to learn go to school. Those who are always getting into fights and causing problems shouldn’t be able to attend school. I like how Garland talks about why mandatory attendance is just based upon the idea that every American has the right to basic education. “But as the old saying goes, your rights stop where the next guy’s begin” (620). Garland explains how every student who wants an education regardless of their inabilities should find a way to receive an education. On the other hand, I remember when I used to go to high school and I witnessed how my friends thought attendance was a big joke. My classmates would always show up late or not even bother to show up. Participation points weren’t a big deal in Hope Academy since all of our classes were online. It didn’t take long before the school started to enforce strict rules. If one doesn’t want to attend school, shouldn’t show up. I feel that mandatory attendance is outrageous. One who wants to learn will find a way to receive an education. Mandatory attendance just gives the trouble-makers an opportunity to waste everyone’s time for those who really want to learn. To sum up, mandatory attendance shouldn’t be allowed. “Are Too Many People Going to College?” by Charles Murray poses a question about the mass majority of students going to college. Murray states various reasons why some recent high school graduates will not succeed in college, if they attend at all. Some students are not deemed as “fit” for college or possess a trade they are superb at that can be continued in lieu of college. I am determined to have a perfect attendance when it comes to my college classes. Keeping a balanced attendance allows me to be up to date with assignments and set an excellent example of myself. Participating in class activities like writing on the board or reading aloud examples, was not my one of my biggest strong suits. Although I spoke out in my assigned groups, which brought a lot more attention to myself, I did not openly speak out in front of the whole class and volunteer myself. This is a certain area that I need to improve on. Although I did not speak out as openly as I should, I always came fully prepared. Being prepared and organized helped keep everything I needed together so I could perform at my fullest potential. In addition, I made sure to create reminders on my phone notifying what I would need, when to work on a certain assignment for the class, and especially for my conferences with Dr. Kennedy (refer to page 3). Every time that a student procrastinates, or puts off something that they highly dislike, they toughen their habitual ways of not doing what they are supposed to do. Now that we see how procrastination is done and how college students can significantly decrease its effect in their day-to-day life, they will experience a greater sense of independence and personal gratification. College students have to continue to keep working and striving forward. They will still procrastinate every once in a while but college students will be much more aware of their procrastination habits and they will be able to resolve their issues as soon is it occur. Northern Arizona University set up these electronic scanners outside of classrooms so that they can monitor who actually shows up to class. They have to scan their ID and when the light turns green they are marked present. It bothers a lot of people because they feel like college is a time where they finally get to make decisions on their own. There are individuals in this world who have not receive a college education and are more well off than the individuals who have a degree. There are opinions from both sides that contain an effective argument. In this essay I will argue why students think it is best to attend college, why people think that college is a waste of time and money, and how a college education can be a blessing but also be a heartache.
Teachers in college for the most part don't really care whether or not you are in class. All it means is that if you are not there, you are going to get a failing grade if it happens too often. Missing too many classes will cause the teacher to withdraw you from the class, resulting in a failing grade. If you do it the smart way you would withdraw from the class yourself because then it would have no negative effect on your overall G.P.A. In high school the teachers are always on you about attendance. If you miss too many days you can fail. If you are not in class they want to know why. They also want a note from your parents excusing you from class. Some schools even want your parents to call you in sick if you are not going to be there. If you do not have a note they can write you up for an unauthorized absence and, give you a detention.

As an adult student, it is not easy to manage the demands of work; spouse and children; and the need to set aside time to read, research, write, and complete specified assignments. The biggest complaint conveyed by adult students is that they simply don’t have enough time. The fact is time management is crucial so you don’t lose sight of your goals. Students’ time is a limited resource. Like other limited resources, time can be more or less effectively managed (Britton, 1991, p.405). It is hard to address my perspective of my own procrastination and my ability to learn. Now that I’m older and looking at the facts of where I am now in life, I should be a lot further in my college goals. Many young adults wish someone sat them down early in life and guided them in a wiser direction. A college degree is essential in the career world.

While studying or even registering for a class presents a challenge to some college students, the greatest obstacle remains, going to class. Attending college is supposed to signify a new found freedom to make many important choices regarding education without high school mandatory attendance policies. However, students everywhere are coming to the staggering realization that college is not too different from high school. Teachers still take class roll and students are still expected to be at every class on time. What next, hall monitors in the hall? The time has come for action to be taken. Colleges must abolish mandatory student attendance policies for several reasons to be further discussed.

While registering for a college course seems to be no longer complicated, there still remains an obstacle that has been triggered so much controversy in academic environment: mandatory attendance policy. This policy, which is imposed by some schools or some professors, requires that college student must attend class regularly enough or their exam papers will be extracted some attendance points (that usually count for about 15 or 20 percent of the total grade evaluation). In my opinion, this policy is useless and burdensome to many people involved. University students should be free in choosing which classes to attend.
