Just because a hair is found at the scene doesn’t mean that it belongs to the perpetrator. It is important to take Locard’s Principle into account, “The microscopic debris that cover our bodies are the mute witnesses... of all our movements and all our encounters.” (Robertson, 7.2) When you come into contact with something or someone, there is always a transfer, even if it isn’t noticeable. There are different types of transferring, primary and secondary. Primary transfer is when something transfers from you to another source. When someone comes into contact with that source, there is a chance that your hair or fiber transfers onto the other person. This is secondary transfer. Because humans shed hair frequently, it is easy for hair to go through secondary transfer and end up somewhere that the individual had never been. Hair can remain on a source for a couple hours without being transferred and it does not break down very easily, so this can remain in place for a long time. (Robertson,

For example, during the Renaissance, well-born European women plucked out hairs, one by one, from their natural hairline all the way back to the crowns of their heads, to give them the high rounded foreheads thought to be beautiful at the time. Those who didn't want to resort to plucking used poultices of vinegar mixed with cat dung or quick-lime. The latter often removed some of the skin as well as the hair.
In the recent past year or two, a woman’s natural hair has become a big thing. Before, African American women, to be specific, were so disgusted by their hair. They would do anything in their power to change the “nappy” aspect of their hair to “beautiful”. They would use relaxers very so often and hot combs.
Throughout the semester we have studied the black vernacular tradition and its attributes of competition, group interaction, the in- group, and pattern of call and response and we have learned to take those attributes and apply then to the complex subject of Black Hair. Black Hair is a complex subject not only because so little is known about it but because of the aesthetic, political, and interpersonal context through which Black hair can be studied and interpreted. Hair is honestly in just about every text and it is used to not only add insight to characters identity but to also give context to time. Many of the black vernacular tenets are seen throughout Margo Jefferson’s chapter in Negroland, in particular the first section called “The
Some existing Literature on Natural Hair The existing literature on ethnic and racial studies among African-Americans has focused on issues pertaining to beauty and body politics especially on natural hair. Spellers and Moffitt assert that the body politics that one assumes, guides how one relates to a particular political ideology in a particular society. Black natural hair is considered as a way by which the true identity of African women can be understood (Jacobs-Huey). It is a symbol of power among black women; it influences how people are treated by others.
Throughout the years we see different trends, styles, and taste's that apply to what society accepts as attractive at their moment. Some people choose more conservative looks whereas other generations were far more liberal in their way of dressing and styling their hair. In order to understand why people would choose certain hairstyles in the 1980's it is important to know more about that year for example, who were the top celebrities or other famous people that had a major influence on society during that time. We know that most fashion and hair trends come from artists in the music industry because they play a major role in everyone's life. People will listen to their music and watch their music videos which will serve as

It’s hair that has those loose and pretty curls with thickness, volume, and softness. This is the type of hair that it just bounces back perfectly well after any hairstyle. Men love it and women go head over heels to get this whole “good hair” Why can’t women embrace their natural hair and start to realize that their hair will never look like the way women with “good hair” apparently look. They can try their best but ultimately their doing more harm than good to their hair. All these chemicals and heat that women put in their hair is not making it any better. If anything you may actually be turning your perfectly health hair into something
Men do not have an image to maintain as us women do. Men have it so much easier than us women. They can act, dress however they want and they are not looked down upon they are just as men as men being men. They do not have to try as hard to get something they want. Anything a man does not influence how others see them but for women if you want to dress comfortable and not wear make up, they are seen as lazy and unwilling to try. Why is this? It is because women are seen in a sexist way. Women are not looked at based on their intelligence and/or qualifications, they are sex objects. If you do not “sexy” you are considered boring and uncaring, but when you do look “sexy” you are seen as easy and unprofessional. We as women will never have the freedom of getting rid of this “mark” we are automatically given when we are born. This sexist stereotype is still around in today’s society just as it was many years ago when this was first written. Women will also be judged based on their looks no matter where we go or what we do. As it was then image will always be the first thing we get stereotyped as in whether we care or do not
...and twisted individual ponytails using small sections of hair. Over the years she has shown a great interest in doing hair so this past Christmas my mother purchased her a mannequin head from Mary’s beauty supply store. On April 22nd, 2017 at 7pm, Eisenhower High School presented Hairspray, the musical, cast and directed by Serena Kledzik, the theatre teacher there and former actress apearing in The Princess Diaries 2, Dear God and Raising Helen. Originally a movie written and directed by John Waters in 1988, it was adapted into a musical by Marc Sharman, Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan that opened on Broadway in 2002 and has been popular ever since. Hairspray is set in the 1960's in Baltimore and is about a young teens journey to integrate a popular T.V show called "The Corny Collins Show". Having never seen the musical or movie and knowing nothing about the plot other than that it dealt with race and integration, I found this production pretty easy to
At some point in a woman's life, she is, if like most women, unhappy with her hair. A woman with straight hair wishes for curly ringlets. A woman with curly hair wants stick-straight locks. Thick and coarse desires to be fine and thinner. Fine and thin begs for thick hair.
For years women have been waxing, plucking and beautifying themselves for one reason and one reason only; because they think that is beauty. A woman is only classified as a lady if she can walk, talk and dress the part. The way that society has viewed femininity has changed immensely over the past hundred years, but acting like a tomboy or, heaven forbid, being strong and independent is looked down upon in the eyes of men and other women. Certain standards of ladylike demeanor have become outdated in today’s society, and women should be looked at as beautiful when strong and independent. But what defines a woman to be ladylike, and can it be defined as a single type? I believe that standards of beauty have changed, and standing out is what will get you ahead in society today. Stereotypes of the ideal female must be brought down to work on achieving inner beauty and internal happiness.
