Ashley Failla SPM 146 Movie Assignment Remember the Titans T.C. Williams High School is a high school that happens to be in Alexandria, Virginia and was forced to integrate the all white school with an all black school in 1971. As a little girl named Sheryl Yoast stated in the movie, “In Virginia, high school football is a way of life. It's bigger than Christmas day.”. Well, now you have an all black football team and an all white football team that are forced to come together as one and have to learn how to be a team together. Boone stood right in front of him to speak directly one on one to communicate effectively with Ronnie. Ronnie then understood that his team did indeed need him and he went on to win the game. Boone could have stood on a pedestal or behind a desk, but by being able to communicate effectively by minimizing the distance between him and his players they built this bond that brought them to a state championship title. For the mental skills of communication, there is not just one single theory that covers all aspects of communication development, but there are various theories that provide better insights into how communication skills are acquired and developed. The Communication Accommodation Theory is an interesting theory to look at for this movie specifically. This theory further explains how people adjust their communication style to accommodate or align with others. Boone saw a problem with how the team separated themselves from each other by race and completely adjusted the way he communicated with the team due to this
