A. The United Kingdom is full of organizations that provide help to women around the world. The Women’s National Commission is the official and independent advisory body giving the views of women to the government. This organization is in charge of taking in account (by the Government) women’s points of view and needs. This also involves taking all of these opinions to a public debate. The Women’s National Commission (as well as many organizations in the UK) is aware of the problems around the world and how rights of women are violated in many ways. Since there job is to inform the government and the public, they do, and the government has taken time and money to invest in women’s well beings. But also, the UK has a group called Womankind Worldwide that is dedicated to raising the status of women around the world. They work with 20 countries in Africa, South Asia, Western Europe, Central and South America. The Womankind Worldwide organization, works to achieve an improvement in women’s lives – socially, financially, in terms of health and participation in society. Religion and gender-based violence is a very important issue for this group, which is why they created a special project (called Body Literacy) that focuses in helping women understand and confront the taboos of their society. This organization works directly with women and men internationally with the hope of transforming communities and achieving equality between women and men.
B. Organizations of this kind in the UK believe they are capable of stopping violence and creating a better world. But violence in women seems to have been forgotten (it causes more deaths in women than cancer, malaria, traffic accidents and war). That’s the reason why numerous organizations in the UK focus on helping women worldwide with diverse kinds of programs. The UK organizations develop programs to deal with women’s inequality in the planet’s poorest places to show them to make decisions in their own life for them, for their families, community and eventually to lend a hand to other women with the same problems. The importance of these kinds of programs and institutions is that they provide motivation and are able to bring a social change to the international communities. These institutions had achieved great success teaching women how to overcome the taboos that society had created in them.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a story of two young lovers. These two hearts, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet belong to feuding families. The family feud causes them to keep their love a secret and therefore only Romeo, Juliet, Benvolio, the Nurse and Friar Lawrence know of their love. Romeo and Juliet are able to look past the feud and let themselves fall in mad love with the other. They let themselves do almost anything for the other and at times it seems like too much to do, even for the one they love. Although fate and character traits play a key role in the play, ultimately Rome and Juliet’s personal choices lead to their downfall.Fate originates all of the conflicts in Romeo and Juliet, from when they met until they die.
In the book, Half The Sky, author’s Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn bring to light the oppression of women in the developing world. Anecdotal stories, filled with sadness, anger and hope, collected after years of reporting, depict just a few examples of this global struggle for women. At the end of their book organizations are listed, in alphabetical order, in hopes of creating a starting point for people to further support women in developing countries. With so many organization doing great work to empower women it becomes difficult to decide where money should be distributed. As a grant manager it is important to take a closer look at each of the organizations and their work to better assess where the money should go. However, the
Friar Lawrence takes the cake when talking about who is to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. The Friar's action of marrying Romeo and Juliet played a vital role in the outcome. Had this not occurred, Juliet would not be as free and loving towards Romeo. From the previous night, she adamantly stated they must marry in order for her to fully trust Romeo. If they never married, they would not be insanely in love because she would not be able to fully trust Romeo. Another mistake of Friar Lawrence was trusting Friar John to send a letter to debrief Romeo on the current situation. He never received the letter. Since Romeo did not read the letter, he believed his only love was dead and decided to embark on a suicide mission. Lawrence knew the immense importance of the letter and still decided against personally delivering the message. Giving the sleeping potion to Juliet was another mistake that lead to their death. Although it allowed her to avoid marrying Paris, Romeo thought his wife to be dead causing the suicide of himself and eventually of his partner. Actions of Friar Lawrence were for the benefit of the people, but ultimately they paved the road for their deaths.
Throughout the texts we have read in English thus far have been feminist issues. Such issues range from how the author published the book to direct, open statements concerning feminist matters. The different ways to present feminist issues is even directly spoken of in one of the essays we read and discussed. The less obvious of these feminist critiques is found buried within the texts, however, and must be read carefully to understand their full meaning- or to even see them.
They are more than just household workers, caretakers of children and materials of pleasure. Women are underestimated because they show off a gentle and very caring side making others think that they can be easily fooled and that they cannot progress. The greatest challenge of women empowerment is changing the stereotypes that have existed in many cultures. For example, female genital cutting shows the discrimination of women. This practice is offensive to human rights and should be eradicated. Although it is difficult to break out of tradition, it has to be broken because it shows a wrong use of religion and tradition. The society has tolerated it for so long; it takes a special person to say that it’s wrong, someone who has great power over the people such as the leaders or other people who see the bigger picture. The female who was an expert in doing female circumcision mentioned that cutting itself is a source of income for her and she would abandon the practice if given another kind of source of income. This shows a capitalist structure in their
Throughout our program, I still maintained and took into consideration the general and primary focus of this learning plan. However, to my surprise, I began to touch on very country specific topics concerning the lives of women. This was because each country we visited was so different than the others, each had its own view towards wome...
Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, where a boy and a girl fall in love with each other during a party hosted by Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet. The two teenager decide to get marry, despite their family's hate for each other and only meeting each other a few hours ago. However, the Montagues (Romeo’s Parents) and the Capulets end their feud after they discover that their children killed themselves. Romeo and Juliet’s death was caused by Juliet’s parents, Juliet, and Friar Lawrence.
...action with others… especially men. This supplies final substantiation of the authors' argument, that women continue to be oppressed by their male-dominated societies. It is a bold undertaking for women to ally and promote a world movement to abandon sexist traditions. Although I have never lived in a third world or non-Westernized country, I have studied the conditions women suffer as "inferior" to men. In National Geographic and various courses I have taken, these terrible conditions are depicted in full color. Gender inequality is a terrible trait of our global society, and unfortunately, a trait that might not be ready to change. In America we see gender bias towards women in voters' unwillingness to elect more females into high office, and while this is not nearly as severe as the rest of the world, it indicates the lingering practice of gender inequality.
Feminism has tackled gender inequality in the workforce, within politics, education and various institutes. Within the 20th century some of these issues faced in western culture have been completely reformed due to certain feminist movements that have encouraged women to fight for equal rights. (Crofton: 2011: 272-273) The first and second waves of feminism have proven to be successful by increasing equal rights between men and women. (Kaplan: 1992: 7) Despite these successes which include allowing there is still the fact of the matter remains that women are still objectified by their gender. ()The generalization of gender roles, have proven to be challenging within the feminist movement, this is often due to the objectification of women in the media. Also as feminism, is an ideology it has various schools of which have conflicting ideas of the ‘empowerment of women’ making it difficult to clarify on what is not acceptable in establishing women’s rights. ...uliet. “Where be these enemies? Capulet, Montague? See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, that heaven finds means to kill your joys with love!”... “Give me thy hand this is my daughter’s jointure, for no more can I demand.” This is evidence that Capulet and Montague hated each other, but when their children die, they realise that there is no point in hating each other, so they reconcile and become friends.
The first factor that played a key part in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is the fact that Friar Lawrence was a coward. When Juliet awakened after her two-day sleep only to find Romeo and County Paris dead, she is in a very unstable state. Instead of being responsible and staying with Juliet to comfort her and make sure that she doesn’t harm herself or others, he tells her that he will make her a nun “Come, come away. Thy husband in thy bosom there lays dead and Paris too. Come, I’ll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of holy nuns.” (5. 3.166-169). The only selfish reason he wanted to make Juliet a nun is so that no one ever finds out that he secretly married Romeo and Juliet...
The key aspect when Friar Lawrence made a major fault that he could of prevented. Friar Lawrence made a rash decision by marrying Romeo and Juliet behind her parents back. Friar Lawrence thought that marring these two would end the feud. For example when Friar Lawrence says, “These violent delights have violent ends, and in triumph they die, like fire and powder, which as they kiss consume.”(Rom .2.6.9-11) When marring these two, Friar Lawrence thought of him and trying to make him more efficient. Both Romeo and Juliet agree with Friar Lawrence that there true love has grown so much that they can’t tell half of it in words. As Romeo says “Ah, Juliet if the measure of thy joy, Be heap’d like mine, and that thy skill be more, to blazon it, then sweeten with thy breath.” (Rom.2.6.24-26) Romeo and Juliet were both committed to one another but marrying these two put their life on the line. For instance, after Romeo got married to Juliet he ran into Tybalt. But in the moment, Tybalt wanted to challenge Romeo. As soon as Romeo understood that he couldn’t fight Tyba...
Throughout history, there have been constant power struggles between men and women, placing the male population at a higher position than the female. Therefore, in this patriarchal system women have always been discriminated against simply due to the fact that they are women. Their rights to vote, to be educated and essentially being treated equally with men was taken away from them and they were viewed as weak members of society whose successes depend on men. However, this has not prevented them from fighting for what they believe in and the rights they are entitled to. On the contrary, it has motivated them to try even harder and gain these basic societal rights through determination and unity. In Mariama Bâ’s book, “So Long a Letter”, the
Romeo and Juliet is a love story written by William Shakespeare that tells a story of two teenagers who fall madly in love with each other in a very short period of time. Almost all people know it before they read the book that the two lovers kill themselves, but who is to blame? There are plenty of substantial reasons that would point the finger at Friar Laurence to be the most to blame for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence willingly and without much consideration assisted Juliet in faking her own death, married the two in secret, and absolutely did not consider the possibilities or consequences his actions could ensue.
Violence against women appeared from a long time ago and happened in every country. It caused pain in both mental and physical for women. There were so many people trying to stop this problem but it was still not completely fixed. There are many reasons that lead to this issue all over the world. After many surveys and investigations, we realized that the main reason is Discrimination and Unequal power. Some legends and stories in the past made people think men’s role is more important than women’s role in society. And because men are stronger, more active than women so they can do more work. This also makes people think men deserve more rights than women. They soon forced on human’s mind that men are also...
