This course has consistently expanded my knowledge and comprehension in regards to religion and its correlation to the human psyche. The curriculum’s progression has been effective in introducing the basic concepts of religion, including its definition and general information about world religions. Weeks four through eight have built upon the basic foundation that was established in weeks one through three. From early childhood to late adulthood, the human mind is constantly developing. Growth of the brain along with life experiences can alter ones view towards religion. This reflection paper will focus on the main topics recently covered like human development in religion and mythology.

Because of these applications and implications in human lives and existence, religion should be understood deeply, particularly, on how it affects the world. Looking at the American perspective of the term "religion," it could be simply understood as images of church, worship, traditions and other sacred pilgrimages. However, religion is more than that. It bears and carries heavier implications and definitions that cannot be merely based on practical applications and references. This influenced the overall development of their cognitive skills and emotional capacities.
As children, we are often told stories, some of which may have practical value in the sense of providing young minds with lessons and morals for the future, whereas some stories create a notion of creativity and imagination in the child. In Karen Armstrong’s piece, “Homo Religiosus”, a discussion of something similar to the topic of storytelling could translate to the realm of religion. Armstrong defines religion as a, “matter of doing rather than thinking” (17) which she describes using an example in which adolescent boys in ancient religions, who were not given the time to “find themselves” but rather forced into hunting animals which ultimately prepares these boys to be able to die for their people, were made into men by the process of doing.

Religion is an ever-growing idea that has no set date of origin. Throughout history religion has served as an answer to the questions that man could not resolve. The progressives that I have to chosen to interview are the PAWS organization. PAWS are an organization that shelters animals that are loose in Kuwait. The most common animals that they have rescued in Kuwait are cats and dogs. Their rescues were not something easy, physically and mentally. Many of their rescues involved very brutal tortures of animals or saving dogs from dog fight rings. One of the rescues was one where a dog was tied up to a pole and was being burned alive; the kids that were doing it were just doing it for fun. After the rescue the chairperson explained to me that they had a mental breakdown and could not go back to their shelter for 6 months. The issue that arose from that situation is that the Kuwaiti general public needed to be educated about animal rights because what is going on would be considered genocide if it were done to humans. This theological approach has contributed significantly to denigrate any type of natural religion, be it in terms of personal experience, mysticism, piety and other types of religious practices that cannot be grounded in the revelation assumed to be witnessed in the authoritative scriptures. A fatal consequence of the development that this has led to is, despite some of the more programmatic attempts to achieve the opposite (e.g. by W. Pannenberg ), that human experience is placed in the background when it comes to assessing the contents of (Christian) religion. Instead, doctrine and reasoning is emphasized when religion is in focus. One of the advantages of the new approach to the naturalness of religion is that it focuses more on what is assumed to be the concrete conditions for the experiences that people deem as religious, although these experiences are not always interpreted in a way that is similar to, or in accordance with, the interpretations offered by existing and distinct religious traditions. My definition of religion has mostly stayed the same, but my perception of it has changed. At the beginning of the class, I assumed religion was something you believed based on your moral principles. I now believe that those moral principles are based on the religion that you believe in. Your religion changes your perception of the world and how to go about in it. Your religion tells you what is right and wrong in the world and answers all of the big questions one asks.
