Relating To A Dead Poet's Society

¨ I never was very capable of expressing my feelings or emotions in words. I don't know whether this is the cause why I did it in music and also why I did it in paintings. Or vice versa: That I had this way as an outlet. I could renounce expressing something in words.¨ ( Arnold Schoenberg) In society when we assume that poems are old and boring or at least that's how I think about it. Although I thought poems were boring and old too at one point of my life. I have come to realize that poems most of the times are related to real life situations.. I changed how I view poems because of the movie Dead Poets Society. The movie taught me how poems can relate to our society. For example, expressing through music, art, and theatre or just understanding life itself. In a society like ours poems take different forms, so we can express how we feel.

Firstly, in Dead Poets Society there was a teacher named Mr.

Keating, he taught in a different ways that other teachers thought it wasn't as appropriate. Although he didn't teach like the other teacher in the movie his students slowly understood what poems truly mean. In the Dead Poet Society there was a scene where Neil wanted to pursue his long life dream which was becoming an actor. However both of Neil's parents wanted him to become a doctor instead of him being an actor. His parents didn't let him because they thought that being a doctor would be best for his future. Until the day came where he decided to stand up for himself, what he thought was right for him even if it meant he wouldn't live to achieve it. In the most of the students that were in the club eventually understood what poems are really about in real life

In addition, I have seen that poetry isn't always what you assume of, because poetry are found in your everyday life. Such as in music, theatre, and in your books I find hard to believe myself that this is possible. Believe me though when I say that poetry matters in our society, because without poetry we don't have music to listen. Also we don't have theatre for entertainment and also art. You might think what you mean by art, when you know that art doesn't have words. What I mean people get inspiration from somewhere, and when they do they usually write it down and when writing you words and sometimes the forms what you are trying to express yourself with. Poetry isn't what we expect anymore because once you think about poetry is found mostly everywhere and without our lives wouldn't be as interesting.
Most importantly, in society we frequently find ourselves demonstrating how we feel in distinguishing ways. Poetry often helps people express themselves freely without always saying how they feel straightforward. Poetry is usually underestimated, mostly by younger people. I sense this because younger people still are learning about life meanwhile the older people already know how life is. In society we individually find ourselves surrounded in a hidden poetic world, without realizing. Poetry has hidden meanings in every story, like telling war, changes, and your perspective.
