A regenerative medicine is the new treatment for patients that has severe reproductive system disease. In the past few years scientist has develop an advance way to restore reproductive tissue engineering in order to restore the normal sexual function in both male and female. The advances include the use of the cells, tissue, and organs regenerative medicine approach for clinical submission to treat reproductive system disorders.
The diagnostic procedure for the reproductive system are the following a carrier test to determine if an individual only carry one copy of altered gene or an exact recessive gene. The recessive gene refers to the disease that both copies of the gene of a person with the disease related to mutation. The second is
The cells unique nature has scientists intrigued to do research with the focus of finding a way that these cells can be used to replace patients’ injured or diseased tissues. Advancement is made to all the three types of stem cells namely embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells in addition to induced pluripotent cells. Embryonic cells are the building blocks of an embryo that is developing, and can develop into almost all body cell types. Somatic cells are found in the body tissues. They renew and regenerate in healthy bodies. The third type which is induced pluripotent is genetically modified embryo cells from skin cells.2 Research on these cells are geared towards saving humanity; a noble course.
Through the continuing studies focused on regeneration and stem cells, scientists can try to see how manipulate totipotent cells found in humans to regenerate into any cell needed throughout the body (Wagner et al., 2012). Humans will benefit from advances in regeneration when faced with degenerative diseases that affect the muscular system or major organs necessary for life. Regeneration can help rebuild organs or muscles damaged by infection or disease and change medicine and human health (Salvetti et al., 2009).
Both of these methods can help determine and eliminate genetic disorders, as certain conditions can be screened out using these technologies. As discussed in Meseguer et al., more than 300 diseases have been related to sexual chromosomes till date. Case studies also argue the important role of these methods in family balancing for varied family dynamics who aim to compensate their family with a representation of the other sex (Meseguer et al., 2002). Critics have also mentioned that with an increase in demand, these methods could become more economical and widely available, including to couples who may need it due to medical
Therapeutic cloning involves the cloning of embryos for the production of stem cells. Therapeutic cloning extract the nucleus from the somatic cell then inserted into the egg, which had its nucleus previously removed. The egg is now stimulated to divide and shortly forms a cluster of cells known as a blastocyst. This blastocyst has both an outer and inner layer of cells and it is the inner layer. The cells in the inner cell mass are isolated and then utilised to create embryonic stem cell lines, which are infused into the patient where they are ideally integrated into the tissues, imparting structure and function as
In the popular British Television Series, Doctor Who, an interesting theory was invented and proposed, the theory of Regeneration. The Doctor, who is the main character in Doctor Who, is a Time Lord. The Time Lords are a race of technologically advanced aliens from Gallifrey who possess two hearts and the ability to, you guessed it, regenerate. This ability allows the Doctor to be reborn every time he dies up to twelve times, except in the case of The Doctor who apparently can regenerate many more times now. The question becomes, what is regeneration and how is it possible? In this paper I am going to put forth my own theory on the Doctor’s regeneration and answer some of the objections that have been proposed against it. My theory of regeneration includes some simple Organic Chemistry, specifically the theory of Stereoisomerism, which I will try to explain here, so as the Doctor would say Allons-y!
In Vitro Fertilization is one of the assisted reproductive technologies. Technically, It is not a technology. It is the procedure to help people who couldn’t have a child due to several reasons. The main reason why couples couldn’t produce a child is due to infertility. Infertility of humans is already common thing. Based on the research from the world health organization in 2010, 48.5 million couples couldn’t have a child due to infertility. This is a very large number and it is in need for a solution. Therefore, IVF have been the solution for those people. It is now the major treatment to treat infertility for humans. However, IVF is not only spreading positive image to the society. IVF also created some controversy with some group of people and it is regarding the
There are many types of genetic tests that are administered to the adult population. The more commonly used genetic tests are paternity tests, genealogical tests, and forensic testing. They are quite self-explanatory; paternity tests are to determine relatedness of 2 subjects, genealogical tests are used to formulate a heritage or ancestry, and forensic testing is used to identify or rule out a person that has been charged with a crime. Other genetic tests include presymptomatic testing, used to determine the risk someone has to developing a genetic disorder, diagnostic screening, used to rule out or identify a suspected condition, and carrier screening, used to determine if an individual carries one copy of a gene mutati...
The number of heart patients is increasing day by day. The need of new therapies is getting higher since the heart muscle has no ability to regenerate, especially after getting damaged. Heart-transplant has been one of the solutions for heart failure. However, the amount of heart donor is small compared to the demand and there are other complications that need to be concerned as well (Leor et al. 2005). Therefore, scientists have worked hard to find alternative therapies, namely cell transplantation to create and engineer the cells to possibly use as an alternative in treating heart diseases. There few heart diseases involve in tissue regeneration application, however this paper will only cover myocardial infarction and dysfunctional heart valves.
Research on stem cells is advancing knowledge about how an organism develops from a single cell and how healthy cells replace damaged cells in adult organisms. This promising area of science is also leading scientists to investigate the possibility of cell-based therapies to treat disease, which is often referred to as regenerative or reparative medicine. There is genuine scientific excitement over the concept of using the body's own cellular building blocks to regenerate damaged or ageing organs. Stem cells are one of the most fascinating areas of biology today. But like ...
Regeneration is a process that has the ability to regrow a structure that has been damaged/amputated. Regeneration is an important thing the world for animals, humans, and more things that are affected by it. Without regeneration, crabs would suffer because they lose their legs so often, humans would be skinless, especially on their knees because that’s what gets scraped many times, children wouldn’t be able to regrow tips of accidental fingertip amputations back and flatworms would have less of a population because when they lost a head or tail they wouldn’t be able to regrow again. Regeneration doesn’t completely help humans like it does animals, humans won’t grow a head back or legs, but they do benefit a little from regeneration. Many things are affected by regeneration positively.
The desire to have a "normal" child is held by every parent and only now are we beginning to have the ability to select for that child. In preparation to receiving genetic testing, the parents are required to meet with a genetic counselor. A detailed description of the testing methods are reviewed with the couple as well as the risks which are involved with each. Upon an understanding of the procedures, the counselor discusses the many possible outcomes which could be the result of the diagnosis. Finally, before any tests are performed, anxieties from either of the parents are addressed as well as the psychological well-being of the parents.
Prenatal genetic screening in particular is a polarizing topic of discussion, more specifically, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). PGD is one of the two techniques commonly used to genetically screen embryos in vitro; it is usually done at the eight-cell stage of division. PGD is most often performed when there is the risk that one or both parents carry disease-causing mutations. It is extensively used by high-risk individuals trying to conceive babes who will be free of particular mutations. PGD can test for over 50 genetic conditions and even allows for sex selection if there are underlying gender-associated medical conditions. When the results are satisfactory, the selected embryo is implanted into the mother’s uterus. While a controversial technique, preimplantation genetic diagnosis is one example of some of the good genetic testing can do, more benefits will be furthe...
In order to discover the ways for the remedy of diseases, studies in therapeutic approaches have been doing widely and kept increasing at accelerated pace. A lot of research areas had emerged for that purpose including one of the most fascinating and highly active areas at present, stem cells therapies. Due to self-renewal property and differentiation capability of stem cell, it becomes a new hope in modern treatment.
The field of regenerative medicine encompasses numerous strategies, including the use of materials and de novo generated cells, as well as various combinations thereof, to take the place of missing tissue, effectively replacing it both structurally and functionally, or to contribute to tissue healing[29]
This article would not be considered scholarly but it discusses a lot of the same information that the scholarly articles do. It was a good source of personal accounts of those who have experienced Assisted Reproductive Technology.
