Determination is defined in the dictionary as the the act of coming to a decision or fixing or settling a purpose. That being a very literal meaning it can be hard to understand. I see determination as an aggressive way to go about completing a task. The opposite of determination is being undecided. While being undecided we go about tasks meaninglessly. For example, while I was in high school I was going through the motions. I was there to hang out and enjoy the ride. I still very much enjoy those memories, but I now realized that I was undecided on what it was I wanted to do. I thought I wanted to play football, but it was very clear that I did not truly know. Now I am in college, and I am determined. I got about my time very carefully. It …show more content…
is sometimes overwhelming dealing with the doctor’s office, and all the visits, but I have to push through, and the reason why is I now l know for a fact I must take my football career as far as I can get. The football is there to keep me determined will now fight and scratch and claw my way through this all towards my ultimate goal. I now can tell the difference between people who are either undecided or determined, and I can respect both of them. The reason why I can respect both is because I have now experienced both sides of determination and indecisiveness.
When undecided I was scared to branch out, and commit to a daily task. I was afraid to work every day, afraid to give up unhealthy habits, and scared of the failure. Although, the ironic part about the indecisiveness was that I was failing doing that as well. I was scared to try and fail so I would just barely try and barely succeed. Had I just focused on the hard work, I would have easily succeeded. I still have friends from high school who I still talk to and there is one in particular that is lost in the world. He had never planned for the world outside of high school, and I realize that indecisiveness rules his thinking. The reason I say this is it is easy to just stay home, sleep in, and do nothing day after day, but I believe that after a while a feeling of dissatisfaction is develops and we slowly dislike ourselves. Somewhere inside of our minds we want to succeed so we must fight through the indecisiveness, and pick what it is we wish to do. When determination sets in, it instills a confidence that allows me to do things that i never thought I could do. When completing these tasks I feel confident, and as if I am
succeeding. I met my girlfriend Alexis Rock while we were freshmen in high school, and it was not until our senior year until we started dating. She is still my girlfriend today and through I met the biggest example of determination I could find. The person is her mother. She has raised her daughter single-handedly. Her other Barbra Rock has had the same job for over thirty years. She has been determined way longer than I have and she did s to better herself and then she kept the drive going for her daughter as well. So I instantly knew that she was the person who I wanted to interview.
As far as I could remember I was never really any good at school. I couldn’t concentrate on things for no more than 5 minutes at a time I would either get discouraged or find it too easy and just give up. An author by the name of Carol Dweck wrote an article called “Brainology” in it Dweck describes that there are two types of mindsets fixed and growth. Those who are afraid to fail so they never try anything new are ones with a fixed mindset and the growth mindset are those who are not afraid to fail and find a new challenge an opportunity to learn something new. I guess you can say that I had a bit of a fixed mindset growing up I was always too scared to look stupid that I didn’t want to fail because I didn’t want to disappoint my siblings
Determination is “The act or an instance of making an important decision and not giving up” (“Determination”). In The Great Gatsby, the main character Jay Gatsby is a succesful business man who will go to extremes to win the heart of the woman of his dreams, Daisy, hoping she would leave her husband for him. Gatsby threw extravagant parties with an abundance of alcohol and a variety of people. People would drive hundreds of miles to attend one of Jay Gatsby’s parties. He would never participate in any of his parties, however, so no one knew him. One may ask: Why would he spend so much money on parties he did not even participate in? The answer is that he would stand on the balcony looking over his unknown party guests hoping Daisy would show up one evening. Gatsby was very determined to get the attention of Daisy, and he believed by throwing these parties he would do so. He was so anxious to see her; he had his neighbor Nick invite her over one afternoon. He had been very nervous and wanted eve...
On the 1st of November 2013, I performed my first simulation on the module, Foundation Skills for Nursing. This simulation was on checking for vital signs in patients particularly, measuring the blood pressure (BP) which is the force of blood vessels against the walls of the vessels (Marieb and Hoehn, 2010). We also measured the temperature, pulse and respiratory (TPR) rates of a patient. This simulation’s objective was to engage us in practising some basic observation techniques taken on patients in and out of hospitals and to familiarise us on some of the tasks we will be performing when in practise. I will be applying the “What”, “So what”, and “Now what” model of reflection in nursing by Driscoll (2000).
The first activity I participate in is DECA. DECA is a youth business competition, and I have been a member of my school's chapter for three consecutive years. I am currently Vice President for the 2015-2016 school year. I have competed regionally and provincially in the categories of Business Services Marketing, Quick Serve Restaurant Management and Franchising Entrepreneurship. Along with qualifying for provincials I have placed top ten in my category. As Vice President I delegate tasks, plan and carry out meetings, organize fundraisers, train members and attend conferences.
Indecisiveness is an inner conflict that inhibits a person from choosing a decision and acting on it. This inner conflict is easily relatable; however, explaining the fuel that ignites the conflict is much more difficult. Every human being must make decisions every day. Moreover, some of these decisions are tougher to choose than others. Psychologically, a decision is not tough because the situation is difficult, but the way the mind perceives the situation is what makes the choice baffling. In other words, humans make decisions more arduous than they seem. Also, the mind of every individual is unique and processes information
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
Determination is a quality that makes a person continue to try, to do, or to achieve something that is difficult. It is a person’s overall drive to never give up and continue striving towards a desired goal. If I was asked to describe myself in one word, I would choose determined. Throughout my life I have had many experiences where my determination has helped me fight through tough times. By having this quality it has helped me to win a girls bowling IHSA state title, be an all-state athlete, and also continue my goals for my education. Determination is important to me because I need it to achieve my goals and reach my highest potential. Determination starts with the decision to go for the goal and to make the commitment to attain the goal. Determination is also the continuous driving force to overcome the obstacles on the way to the destination. It focuses the mind on the end result. It strengthens the will to carry on, to arrive at the destination.

Self-determination theory is one that assumes all humans are born with an innate drive to better oneself, basically becoming self-actualized, which is referred to as full-functioning. In self-determination theory, or SDT, full-functioning is characterized as “being aware and mindful, acting autonomously…, and pursuing and attaining intrinsic life goals” (Deci, Ryan, and, Guay 2013). SDT describes three autonomous behaviors: intrinsically motivated, extrinsically motivated, and emotionally motivated. SDT also describes three psychological basic needs of every human: the needs for competency, autonomy, and relatedness. The need for competency causes people to try tasks slightly tougher than they can currently manage, in order to improve upon
The Locus of Control assessment shows how much a person believes they have control over the events that occur within their life. However, I am a person that is multitasking I prefer to work alone so I can hold self-accountable for my actions, although the field I am employed in requires my working with a team. I retain shared information, think it over then discuss to see if new options arise. My score was a 4 which to me means I am a person with an internal locus of control. However, a person with external locus control blames the events in their lives on outside forces (Paul et. al, 2017). Moreover, Multiple Intelligence assessments is an assessment which shows the different ways a person learn which include eight bits of intelligence that influence the way person processes information.
In the world of education, assessments play an integral role in student learning. To get the most out of assessments, they must be aligned with the standards, accurately measure what students know, as well as promote student learning (McTighe and O’Connor, 2005). In order to do this, it is important to include students in the assessment planning process. This should begin at the beginning of a unit with the pre-assessment and should be carried throughout the formative and summative assessments. Dr. Anne Davies believes that “when students are involved in the assessment process, they are more engaged and motivated, and they learn more” (Davies, 2007, p. 31). In my interdisciplinary unit, I attempt to include students in every stage of the assessments
I decided that for my Inquiry 4 I would be creating a website, a remix of my Inquiry 3 project, on cults. For this, I created my own cult. This was done by studying previous cults, using satire in my writing to elaborate the similarities of cults and what people perceive in cults, and using Heavens Gate (a cult from the 90s) still active website, as reference for my own. This was definitely challenging for me, as I am not tech savvy, and really helped me tap into my creative side when writing a blog for the website. In this website, there is also a store, where there are products generally associated with cults, and a small description that is associated with each product, again using satire. Through the systematic use of text, pictures, color, and tabs, I believe I have been successful in creating an ironic cult website.
Having been involved in DECA for two years, I have gained many skills from my experiences, through the executives and teachers. When I attended ICDC in grade 9 for THRIVE leadership conference, I learned to be more organized and to manage a team. We won the business plan challenge with focus, determination and collaboration. Being the head of organization, I planned our regular meetings and assigned roles to our team, making ourselves as productive as possible. I would use skills gained through the competitive and challenging experience to organize and help lead our DECA chapter.
Many people get dedication mixed up with determination. Yes dedication play hand in determination, but still they are not the same thing. Determination is a quality that makes you continue trying to do or achieve something. Dedication is a commitment to something. You will always be committed to that something.
In total there are 3 d’s of success, but we are only going to talk about two of them, determination and dedication. Dedication and determination can lead people to achieve one of the greatest things in life, success. It can lead you to earn you the admiration of friends, family, and people around you. I believe that everyone in the world has these two traits, but it is their choice if they want to express it or not. To have determination, I believe you must acquire perseverance, persistence, or endurance, they’re practically the same thing.
