While researching the two locations, one distinction stood out to me: The Center for Global Health. As a minority and future physician, providing care through the field of international health is of upmost importance to me. Though I do want to reside and practice medicine in the United States, I believe it is vital for future physicians to take interest and actively participate in global health issues. Therefore, I have no preference regarding which campus I attend as long as I have access to this interdisciplinary curriculum. Two factors that impact where I’d prefer to reside at include the learning resources and outdoor activities that I have access to. By working in a hospital for years, it is apparent that I learn best through case-based
Third world countries and underdeveloped nations have become the new proverbial Petri dish of experimentation and offer particular conditions which researchers would never be able to find in their home countries. This only serves to highlight the problem that inherently faces all research studies, the ethical debate in regards to the protection and rights of their subjects. Is it feasible to expect the same standards to apply in certain countries where an economical imbalance between what is possible and what is not can be the largest hurdle to overcome? These are key issues examined in the New England Journal of Medicine by author Marcia Angell, M.D., and co-authors Harold Varmus, M.D. and David Satcher, M.D. in their respective articles that consider the ethical standards that should prevail in such circumstances. Should researchers be upheld to universal standards, or are the standards more applicable in a “local” sense, where the conditions and the constraints of the location provide the context for how the principles should be applied?
I am excited to be submitting my application to Georgetown University School of Medicine, as this school’s mission and values reflect my own beliefs on the role of a physician. I believe that there is no fixed template to healthcare; medicine and health will vary across time, regions, and individuals, and as future physicians, it is crucial for us to recognize that. While standard science education is certainly critical, a broadened approach that draws on other knowledge and our own life experiences is just as essential to delivering quality healthcare. I believe that Georgetown Medical School’s tradition of “Cura Personalis” and its
Also, I will benefit from the cross-disciplinary training while at UNC-Chapel Hill: drawing on resources from the department of social medicine and the school of public health to strengthen my study that is biological, social, cultural, and political in nature.
The theory used for this case study was effective, because it was able to get P to recognise that change need to occur so the support that she received would be effective. Reflecting on action the outcome of the assessment and intervention that was applied to P’s case I used supervision and to discuss concerns I had regarding this family with my PS. Supervision helped me establish my concerns and areas I required further support in application to theory in evidence based practice ‘blind self’.
Because I have always wanted to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner, I chose Walden to provide the opportunity for this to occur. I want to continue to work with in the community healthcare field when I become a nurse practitioner. I have a strong work ethic, I work well with teams, and I want to be part of an institution that develops strong students, who will make the world a better place. I have spent numerous hours mentoring my colleagues in the areas
The NHS Plan (2000) tackled the system which had become outdated since 1948, reformed IPW and IPC and put service users at the heart of the service. The Plan highlights an almost paternalistic approach towards patients and the lack of rights to question the care they receive. The NHS Plan represented a milestone not only by introducing key points (such as continuity of care, erasing division between staff, reducing waiting time, empowering patients through choices, recognising the importance of performance monitoring, targets to reduce health inequalities and provide a healthy start for children) but also recognising the need for the service user's voice, which reshaped the whole healthcare system (NHS, 2000). IPW can be carried out if there
I applied to the Global MedPrep Scholars Program to study abroad in Shanghai, China. This experience allowed me to view health care from a global perspective. Studying the Chinese health care system has given me a glimpse as to what Global Health entails, allowing me to aspire towards my goal. Similarly, I believe the SPRINGH program will allow me to continue studying Global Health in the capacity of my interest. Doing this kind of research is where I believe my passion lies as a future physician. If accepted, I would have the opportunity to conduct Global Health research at sites across the world, gaining access to invaluable experiences and knowledge that would facilitate my future in global
Education is neither linear nor static. It requires evolution and fluctuations. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at UNC Charlotte, and now it is time for a prime conversion to be made. Attending the Masters of Public Health program at UNC Charlotte would open the door for me to pursue my career aspirations in health care. Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health. My ambition, perseverance, and work ethic have brought me to a high point, and enrolling in the Masters in Public Health program would raise that threshold even higher.
This semester, I thought health science would just be more learning about health and how to improve it. Of course health science taught me this, but I think it also taught me more about myself. Most people aren’t consciously aware of changes until they are forced to notice them, and I think I was in this predicament. Health Science helped me realize a lot of changes that occurred throughout myself, and it helped me realize what I can do better.
This report is based on the major and specific global health problems in the world. Global health refers to the health of all people in the world which concerns about the health issues that go beyond the borders of each country due to the globalization ( Dyar & Costa, 2013). As well as health issues are referred to the health problems created due to this globalization.
My International background, cultural competency, multilingual abilities, and academic aptitude will aid me in successfully completing the Graduate program of Public Health. I am confident that this program will provide me with necessary tools and education to successfully execute and construct policies that would benefit both local and international communities. Through my Medical Scribe experiences, EMT work, Undergraduate coursework, helped me gain in depth knowledge and different perspectives into the health care industry. I believe that University of New England is the best conduit to pursue and accomplish my academic and career goals.
Wellness is defined as “an active life-long process of becoming aware of and making choices to achieve optimal health and a more successful and balanced existence” (Ren et al., 2007). Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.
Over the course of the past eight years I have encountered many different situations in my life. I became a parent at the young age of seventeen. I faced an abusive boyfriend for a year. I became a single parent, whom worked two jobs and stayed up until one in the morning every night studying and completing assignments. I evolved into a parent of a child with special needs, a military wife, a college graduate, and a survivor.

Physical Health: In physical health, there are a lot of key things to keep in check in order to stay healthy, or in other words, "fit." This is critical for the overall well-being of a person and is the most noticeable throughout the variable ranges of health, which also includes social, mental, emotional, spiritual, and environmental health. Although with that being said, there is a certain impediment between wellness among men and women; which allows them to become less physically active and later, develop unhealthy eating/living habits — that can also, be due to binge eating, inadequate sleep, and an unbalanced diet. Hence, this can transcend into an increasing rate of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other serious conditions.
