My belief in Transformation
The transformation of man has long since been a topic of much expanse. Today, the defining of transformation still lingers. Socialization forms the core to many transformations in a student’s life. Since John Lock posited the socialization of man in the Enlightenment period, transformation has become a direct effect often due to life altering experiences – the “liberation of the individual within a dominant, oppressive, technocratic society” (Module 4 Theory and Analysis). Paulo Freire says transformation is essential to relationship with others.

As a teenager I was an avid reader and excelled academically until I was in the ninth grade when I conceded to peer pressure and took a turn for the worse. I became lackadaisical and nonchalant, and little by grades fell. I was just 14 years old but I was able to think long and hard on the path I was on and of which path I needed to be on. I vividly remember my mother telling me to “always stay on the crooked path and cut straight” (meaning to see your mistakes and gradually correct them) – and that I did. I became a new person devouring my lessons as if I was on my last breath. I was no longer ashamed of my academic performance as my GPA shot to 3.4 in my first midterms at my new school. From our first breath to our last, every person on Earth is in a perpetual state of change. Some of this change is physical, some of it is mental, and all of it is important. One of the most obvious instances of human change is seen throughout adolescence. During this time, both our bodies and our minds change very rapidly, nearly transforming us into completely different versions of ourselves. While it is true that this period of the human life does contains the largest amount of both physical and mental change, it should not be thought of as the only time in our life where change is acceptable. Humans are like play-dough they start off average but with the right guidance they can become what they were meant to be. Telemachus in The Odyssey by Homer, had many obstacles he had to overcome and with guidance from his mentor he followed the path to becoming who he was destined to be. Transitioning from high school to college is also a difficult journey and requires a great ordeal of time and effort put into it. Although faintly dissimilar, Telemachus’s initiation into manhood and the initiation of transforming from a high school student to a college student are dubiously alike because they both transition into confident and independent people.

Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
A lot of my classmates taunted me for receiving good grades on all my tests. It was obvious that I had different morals than they did. Their parents did not care what grades they got. My parents were never harsh, but they would always make me feel guilty if I did not receive high grades on my report card. At times, I would feel pressured to not preform exceptionally in school because of the constant verbal abuse. In fifth grade, I received my first ‘D’ on an English test because some of my classmates dared me not to study for the test that week. Lucky for me, I had very supportive parents unlike some of my other classmates. They explained to me how important it was to maintain a high GPA; I would go much farther in life than they would because of my academic drive. As a child my parents worried about my educational development. They didn’t know if I was going to be able to keep up with the other children. I was in the third grade and didn’t know any English. I struggled academically my remaining elementary years to catch up to the other children, but it wasn’t long until I exceeded my peers in middle school.
Throughout my live, my behavior towards change has evolved into a more mature acceptance of the inevitable. As an adolescent, I failed to contemplate the reasoning behind changes that occurred within my life. I neglected to seek the deeper meaning of why modifications were being implemented. However, as an adult, I consider the rationale and possible outcome of the change taking place. I have grown to realize that the success of each individual situation depends on the attitude it is approached it with (Blais & Hayes, 2011).
The idea of change is the most constant factor in business today and organisational change therefore plays a crucial role in this highly dynamic environment. It is defined as a company that is going through a transformation and is in a progressive step towards improving their existing capabilities. Organisational change is important as managers need to continue to commit and deliver today but must also think of changes that lie ahead tomorrow. This is a difficult task because management systems are design, and people are rewarded for stability. While working in a group if you have ever noticed a situation where a person or an individual emerges as a leader and inspires others with his clear vision of the goals and with his passion towards work and due to which his/her team members feel a boost in their motivation than this person can be termed as a transformational leader. The business dictionary defines transformational leadership as a form of leadership style in which the leader recognizes the desired change and then crafts a vision to steer the change using inspiration, and carries out that change with the dedication and fidelity of the members of the group. The transformational leader arouses a positive change in his disciple as not only he himself is generally vigorous, passionate, and fanatical but also because he inculcates these qualities in his followers. These leaders are not only paying attention on their goals but are also very much concerned in helping each and every member of the group for ensuring his/her individual success.
I was sometimes slower at completing a written paper or an assignment. In open discussions about material we had just read, things weren’t sticking with me after reading to feel confident to raise my hand and be active with discussions. I would have to search for answers in my memory for some time. Sometimes answers just weren’t retrieved at all. I became frustrated in school often, and eventually developed a negative attitude toward school. I struggled a lot with this because I knew I could do better. Every day I prepared myself for failure because I lacked the tools and strategies that I needed to succeed in school. Granted, I got by, but I could have been a much better student. I earned low B’s and C’s, but should have been A’s.
