The self assessment test was eye opening. It addressed skills that I needed to improve on,it also addressed skills that I do well at. I have neglected some of the skills listed, the assessment gave me a sense of a “need to improve” attitude. This Journey is not going to be easy, but my expectations is nothing short of improving it. Now that I know where I stand in my weaknesses and strength I can start the journey.
My Weaknesses are speaking, time management which includes procrastination, retaining written information, the lack of self esteem & confidence, my energy level that is often low due to the lack of exercise and diet. Bethel University. (2014) pg.2,3

I would compare improving my writing skill to running on the treadmill. Working out is boring to me but it is something that needs to happen to staying healthy. I am the king of procrastination, I feel that if I can make the time and put in the effort, everything listed could be improved. I get bored with learning, I need to develop a fun environment by using the skills that I enjoy using to develop the weaker skills. Curiosity is something that I feel is my strength, If I could figure out how I to connect my curiosity to writing, I think that would be a great
In that publication, George L. Kelling and James Q. Wilson had their essay “Broken Windows: The Police and Neighborhood Safety” published. The essay was meant to address crime within neighborhoods, and based on the ideas in the essay the broken windows theory emerged. The basis for the idea was that if a neighborhood allowed one broken window to stay broken, then the neighborhood would soon suffer more broken windows. The idea of the theory is that serious crimes such as murder and rape are enabled by misdemeanor level crimes like public intoxication, vandalism, prostitution, loitering, and vagrancy type crimes. Within the belief of the theory, people are not naturally bad individuals. It is the environment in which they are raised and they live in that is responsible for their criminal behavior. To respond to these lower level crimes, the essay says that patrol officers should be encouraged, or managed to get out of their police cars and walk the beat. This way, they are mingling amongst the citizens and building good relationships with the people that live in those neighborhoods. They are also expected to address people committing those minor crimes already listed by either arrests or citations depending on their
There have been many contributors when it came to tackling anti-social behaviour and preventing crime however, the most influential contributors are Wilson and Kelling. They came up with the theory of broken window which will be further explain in this essay. This essay will outline the broken window theory, as well as explain what is meant by broken window. Finally it will give examples that exemplify the broken window theory. (Maguire, Morgan and Reiner, 2012)

Thinking that I was strong minded and never looking at the negatives, ones suspicions changed my whole mind setting. After an endless wait in the mournful waiting room of the hospital, my name was called. The nurse brought us to Dr. Yazay's office where he confirmed his suspicions, and so began my life with scoliosis. Since the age of eight I have been swimming. I was a competitive swimmer for nine years, and now had to deal with a life without the activities I felt defined my identity. The treatment for my scoliosis involved wearing the most uncomfortable thing in the world which was a brace. With several restrictions on my physical activity, I had an abundance of free time on my hands.
helps us to behave within society rules. With that being said I believe it encourages people to have a sense of moral beliefs along with guidance. Which leads me to have faith that people are capable of separating there right from wrongs. Making themselves aware and in control of their own futures. For instants when I am faced with a difficult situation I know that it is up to me to make the choice not only to benefit myself, but to be concerned of those around me as well. It also ties in with the way we act, this is known as behaviorism the claim on minds and/or mental events in which they can be expressed in terms of behaviors (“Ontology”) studied by
In the 1980s the New York Transit Authority hired Kelling as a consultant, and he urged them to put the broken window theory into play. They listened to Kelling and brought in a new subway director, David Gunn. He was in charge of the rebuilding of the subway system. Many subway advocates told Gunn to worry about more serious issues and to leave the graffiti alone. Gunn did not agree; he was a follower of the broken window theory. In his mind, the graffiti was the cause of the crash of the subway system. The first thing he wanted to do was clean up the trains. One by one the graffiti was removed off of the trains. If a train had graffiti on it, it was called a “dirty car.” The dirty cars had to be cleansed of graffiti before going back on the railroad, or it was removed from service. Gunn’s graffiti cleanup took from 1984 to 1990. At this time, the Transit Authority hired William Bratton to head the transit police. Bratton was also a follower of the broken window theory. He decided to start taking fare-beating more serious. Just like Gunn’s idea of the graffiti, Bratton thought the fare-beating was the start to bigger crimes. Bratton placed undercover cops at turnstiles and they handcuffed every single person
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. As Roth states in Strengths Finder 2.0, we as a present day world tend to focus on and try to overcome our weaknesses rather that building up our strengths. Using our natural talents can help us do the best we can and help us be a better asset. After taking the strengths assessment, I found that my top five strengths themes ended up being: relator, discipline, competition, responsibility, and significance.
My strengths would be extraversion and conscientiousness. I definitely find my extraversion as a strength, because it helps me network with ease. Also, it is a strength because some research has revealed that extraversion has some impact on academic performance, and is likely due to higher rates of extraverts participating actively in class (Dumfart & Neubauer, 2016). My other strength, conscientiousness, is valued for being a major predictor of positive academic performance. School is the most important thing to me other than my family, and my conscientiousness really comes into play is regards of my school work. I find myself to have a strong drive for achievement, and I possess the self-discipline that’s necessary for me to flourish. For example, in high-school I would study so diligently and thoroughly that I had straight A’s for almost three years
I found the results of my self-assessments to be a very insightful and accurate description of myself. The results of the learning styles test and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II are very valuable for examining my personality traits and learning style and making improvements as needed.
As an international student, I have a unique experience in English writing. Before I began to write in English, I firstly learned the Chinese writing. What I have learned from primary to middle school is the narrative writing, such as writing an unforgettable event, an inspiring story, or an interesting man. In high school, the main focus of writing shifts from narrative to argumentative writing. Normally, it is required to analyze a social event by using several examples to prove the argument. For instance, one of the college entrance essay topic in 2017 is choosing two to three keywords from the following list to present the China that the author knows: panda, square dancing, the Great Wall, the shared bike, air pollution,
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
My flexibility is certainly one of my greatest strengths. I can easily move between different working styles, depending on the scenario. I have no problem trying a new idea or concept out before deciding on a final direction. I am continually exploring different options. Being a “people-person” is one of my other strengths. My excellent interpersonal skills allow for me to bring ideas, thoughts and people together. I generate enthusiasm and excitement into tasks. I feel comfortable and confident talking to others about anything that I have knowledge of.
My greatest weakness is being able to say no. due to the energetic person that I am, I tend to take on tasks that are required of me and even beyond me. I view it this way of not wanting to appear negative or a lazy person when I say no. This in turn creates lots of stress and pressure in me due to my effort to get things done even when it is not convenient. I am currently working on this weakness and learning how to politely refuse tasks when am over stressed. Being over stressed reduces the quality of care given to patients and that is why I only plan to embark on tasks that I could finish at a time, rather than taking numerous that I would perform poorly in. This would help my nursing career as I would able to provide great and quality care to my patients due to me focusing on one task at a time and giving in my best to
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science. Self Assessment is the first step in my successful future.
Personal Effectiveness is using all of our potential resources in order to achieve both work and life goals. It is when we use all our personal resources at our disposal-talent, skills, time in order to get what we want in life. In everyday life we put so much effort to get what we want to achieve in life. We spend a large amount of our time and energy. In this world many people are working towards achieving the same goal with different costs. This is because everyone has different personal effectiveness.
