Identity is a person’s qualitites. It makes up who we are as a person. It is a part of everyday life like in our gender, race, culture, class, education and politics. People can be described in a variety of characteristics good and bad. I believe it still doesn’t make a person who they are described to be. Identity is feelings and emotions, the way one reacts to the world. Only we can fully define it. I believe identity is the love that I have for myself.
We learn about our identity through interactions in our culture, friends, hobbies, interests and the environment around us. Many different aspects have shaped who I am today, such as family. I believe that my family is the biggest impact on whom I am today. They have shaped my identity in many different ways. Not only the way I present myself or the way I speak, but my ethics and morals come from my parents. An example is religion, my parents are catholic. I believe this is also a part of my identity. I’m eighteen years old and am looked at as a role model for both my younger siblings. I am looked up to as in to lead them to the right path teaching them right from wrong. Unfortunately my parents didn’t get to go to college making me the first to attend. They didn’t have an easy childhood and always try to give their children the best. They want us to grow up having everything we not only need but desire. I’m thankful for having such caring parents who love and adore me unconditionally. As a child I always said I wanted to grow up to work in the medical field. I now hope to become a registered nurse. I hope to graduate and not only make my family proud but myself. It will take lot of work and determination but in the end everything is worth it.
