In advisory, I have learned about others, and I have made a lot of friends. In advisory, I talked to a lot of people that I never knew I would become friends with. I have grown in my advisory class because I have met a lot of students that I have never met before. Next year I want to get closer to some people from the same advisory as me. I am struggling in being more social with the people in my advisory because I am very shy and do not talk to a lot of people. I loved how in this time we had time to do homework because I would not have time to do it at home. I also had lots of fun when we went to the park and played soccer with other advisories. I have grown a lot in Culture and Geography because I have learned a lot. Next year I want to know more about geography because we haven 't learned a lot from that and I would like to learn a lot more about geography. I am proud that I have an B in this class, even thought I know I can do way better. I am very glad that it is not below an B. My teacher is a very fun, nice and educated. What I like most in this class is that we learn about each other and each others cultures. I have gotten a lot better in this class by studying, reviewing my notes, and asking the teacher. The most exciting part of this class for me was when we learned about our DNA and how we can read our DNA. I have gotten in the habit of asking the teacher or other students questions when I don 't understand something, so I can have a better understanding. My biology teacher is very nice and she makes things very clear; She is also one of my favorite teachers. Even thought I may struggle on some of the units that she has taught us, everything else is very clear to
The biggest lesson I learn during this class is time management. I have a 9 month old baby and he allows wants my attention. I had to rely on a family member to take care of him while I get a few hours to read the textbook and do the writing assignments. I had to truly focus on my work and not go to social sites because I barely had time to do so.
This course and as in Honors Biology, we were taught in a more oneself teaching rather than a lecture. I like the idea of not having a lecture, but when the teacher took a day to do a quick overview of each chapter, I learned the material and understood the material the best. I wish that we had that in each unit because I truly do like biology and when I understand a new concept fully it made me feel 10 times more comfortable on the test and the
Finally, I learned how to be more responsible by myself. In my last classes, my teachers were technically always there to tell me step by step what to do and how to do my assignments. In a certain way, it made me kind of lazy and entirely dependent of my teachers. However in this course it was not like that; instead, my instructor just gave me the assignments, instructions, and deadlines, and I must write my essays and summited it on time. This absence of guide absolutely made me to react that it was time to me to do my assignments by myself, demonstrate what I know, and ask for help just whenever it is
This is my first year here at Porterville College, I can say that I have learned many new things. Things that I wanted to learn, that seemed interesting to me, and more important that I was able to do was connect somethings that I have learned in my personal experience, and I think that’s what makes it more interesting and fun. In my “Child, Family, and Community” I have learned how important it is for a child to be in a safe environment where they can have the opportunity to choose from many choices. Also I, have learned about the variety of programs here in Tulare Country that help families and young kids to better themselves for a better life. Another class that I don’t regret taking is English 73X because I have learned many things which
... so many things about interacting with others and about understanding different cultures, Things are different everywhere you do because someone was raised that way or because they believe in something different than you. Culture isn’t all about the way someone lives or the society that they live in. Culture is about things you own, the way you act, where you live and your lifestyle. I now look at people with a different culture than me with so much more respect. I don’t know what they have gone through or what kind of culture they grew up with, life is harder in other places then it is America. I understand the differences in the way people live and see things. The culture and diversity in the world is amazing. Overall I loved this class, I learned things that I never could have imagined learning, I am impressed with the book and the class discussions that we have.
Up until this year, before taking the class intermediate composition, I thought I was a terrible writer. I was right. Writing isn’t something that I enjoy doing, nor am I good at. Writing is difficult for me because I’m not very good at explaining things in a professional manner, that can be easily well written. While writing you are expected to make little to no mistakes, which is not something I’m great at. I am so much better at explaining things with verbal words rather than written words. I had not taken any extra writing classes before this year rather than the mandatory ones. Like I had stated before, I hate writing, with a passion. I dread writing anything, especially an essay for school, like this one. I’m
Multiple essays have been formulated during the duration of Composition 1. These essays have taught me an important lesson about my writing, failure is acceptable in order to grow. On the other hand, I made an important discovery last year that I want to study journalism and advance further in that field after college. From taking journalism classes, to blogging in my spare time, to always getting an A on my papers, I thought I had no room to improve. I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”.
This I find to be a great accomplishment, because the out of class work load has been insane! Two or three hours everyday was dedicated to homework just for this class alone. I 'm still not quite sure how I managed, but the ride is almost complete. I also think I have done well with note taking. My notes have become more organized and structured so that when I look back on them I am able to easy recall what was said or understand what I was thinking during the time. I have also learned how to write decent essays within a short period of time. My essays are typically of average quality compared to the people in this class, however, compared to the average person outside of this room, my essays are fairly good. Besides these technical improvements, this class has helped me in my personal life. It has brought questions into my life about whom I am as a person, society, government, religion, spirituality, and so much more. From this class it is certain that I have learned a lot, but I have learned one of the greatest lessons in life, how to
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
Throughout this fall semester, I have learned many things. Before this class, I have never had to buckle down and plan out my writing so tediously. The many outlines, rough drafts, and final drafts have crafted me into a much better writer than I would have ever expected to become. While I have always considered English as one of my strong subjects, through this class I have learned that English has many more components than I originally thought. One of the most substantial of these components is a transitional sentence and through this class and the writing practice it has brought me, I have learned how to properly write them.
Writing assignments over this course of time have gave knowledge and taught new processes for specific types of assignments. My attitude overall this semester has changed towards the writing process, as before I only use to pay attention to developing my three main ideas. Now I give attention to throws cited, grammar, structure and organization of the paragraphs. Essay’s overall presentation, problem solution and convincible factors lead to a good essay. This essay reflects level of difficulty or ease to produce essays, all the possible tasks and processes involved, and writing process of specific essay.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes in that I can work at my own pace, make my own deadlines (besides the due dates), and communicate with others in ways I had never done before. I am more of a hands on, face to face, confrontation kind of student,
Anthropology gives us a chance to expand ourselves as human beings. I find that the information I left this class with will be a guideline for many different parts of my life and will help me to see things in different views. It will help me to uncover various parts of my own culture and how our everyday perception and understandings is blocked by not knowing what else is out there.
It has been a struggle at times because I am not used to sit in a class lecture for an hour and stay concentrated the whole time. If I had to choose an ideal teacher i’d choose Professor Barkley; he always has such great energy, a positive attitude, and a great sense of humor. He keeps me engaged and makes things more fun and enjoyable by forcing us to interact with others. He does not care for you to sound stupid in front of others. He will speak to you 101 and help you better grasp the material. He will explain to you in great depth and relates the information to something you already know. As a college student this teacher has honestly been my comfort teacher, because of this ideal teacher I have learned how to teach myself the information I need to retain in other classes. Professor Barkley has honestly been such a positive to my college experience, but it hasn’t always been this
As an educator, there is always room for reflection and growth. Being in this class has provided an opportunity for both. From my knowledge gained in this class I believe that I have become smarter and have learned how to implement different tool into my teaching as well as general life as a teacher. Of the topics discussed in this class, commitment to students, avoiding burnout and reflective practices had the biggest impact on my professional growth.
