At the end of sophomore year I was stuck between honors English and AP. I knew that I would be able to keep an A all year in honors but I wanted a little bit more of a challenge, so I chose AP. I heard from many people while signing up for classes that junior year was going to knock us on our butts. I never for a second thought that junior year and the classes would be any different than the rest. At the end of yet another year, I have realize that junior year was a constant struggle of turning assignments in on time and creating time for other things, but it was a year that has helped mature me for college. When writing The Awakening paper, I struggled with finding things to say to keep the paper flowing in a nice fashion. My growth was found in writing papers that were about books or thesis writings. I began to understand the method and process for them and was able to keep the paper flowing. If I compare my best pieces of writing to the worst the difference isn’t far fetched. The difference between my best and worst writing is how connected it is to the reader. My best writings have figurative language and details creating a picture for the reader. My better writings have more of a connection to the reader than my worst and have a better tone and set of emotions. When I wrote the This I Believe (TIB) paper I found it very easy to write about something I believed in. The TIB was one of my best pieces because I was able to tell a story based on whatever I believed in and it did not enable me to go back through a book and figure out main points of a story or something like that. My next best piece was the Defining Moment paper. Although my paper had grammar errors, it was my favorite. Next for my Defining Moment paper, I wrote about my great grandma. I had anecdotes in my paper and also descriptive language to help the reader step into my shoes while reading. The last, best piece was the Into The Wild (ITW) paper. The ITW paper was when I felt that I had finally gotten the hang of thesis writing. I stuck to the thesis and kept transitions throughout the paper. If I would have to vote for the paper that was the best of the best, it would be my Defining Moment paper. When writing my defining moment paper I wanted to make it a really good paper since it was about my great grandma. Gafka’s quote summarizes my Junior year as I had to grew accustom to many difficulties, face many challenges, and struggles such as time management as well as how I decided to take three Ap classes during my Junior year. Which were Ap US History, Physics, and English not to mention having a Math 140 zero period class and a Network+ computer course outside of school which made me have a busy schedule. My junior year of high school was not one of the easiest years of my life. As a matter of fact, i think so far, it's been my hardest. Especially because of my AP English class. I had several other AP classes and honors classes, but this one seemed to be my greatest struggle. I am one of the very few people who enjoy and are actually great at mathematics. It is my favorite subject, closely followed by science. I always look forward to going to these classes. I also find an interest in government, which is why I currently take AP Government and politics. Back on the English track, I've never been much of a reader or writer, it's just something that I'm not very well at doing. Last year in AP English, I had a wonderful teacher who goes by the name of Mrs.Stagg.

Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
A former classmate of mine that graduated and moved on to college told me that senior year is the easiest year of high school. I disagree. So far, senior year has challenged me more than any year by far. It is easy for me to say that senior year has started slightly different than originally anticipated. However, it is gearing me towards a second semester I will never forget. Motivation and grades contribute to the ways in which my final year of high school has differed from my original visions, while how fast the year is going does not surprise me in the slightest.
I am not, by any means, a Shakespeare, Stephen King, or John Grisham. It would take enormous amounts of time, practice, and effort to be considered a long shot at a Pulitzer Prize. Yet, I intend to progress my writing by setting more achievable goals, building on new ideas, and developing new skills. Also, I will use the advice of instructors and peers, and draw from previous writing experiences to mold this and future writing experiences.
Being a senior in high school is probably one of the most stressful things a person goes through in their entire life. There are so many factors that add up to equal this stress; things like the normal high school classes, homework for those, dual credit courses, homework for those, thinking about and finding a college, scholarships, work (to pay for said college), and to top it all off, finding out what to do with the rest of my life. The struggle is real and it is prominent. This entire process will all lead to the rest of my life. It is the start of my career, new friends, and so many new experiences.
I selected paragraph writing for this writing selection because I would like to reflect on my areas of weakness and how I improved as a writer. To be honest, I prefer writing a paragraph because it’s short compared to writing an essay. However, I struggle to write a paragraph. When given a topic and asked to write a paragraph long, I have a lot to say but couldn’t summarize the whole topic. That is, I get too wordy when it comes to details, which in fact, I find it hard to get straight to the point. Indeed, I’m a very detailed person, but this writing piece challenged me how to improve my summarization. As I look back on my writings in the past, especially over the course of this semester. I notice that I have professed far on my ability of free writing.
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. Usually for others their junior year is the hardest but for me it wasn’t. My junior year seemed like the easiest out of all the years I have been in school. To me, my junior year wasn’t hard for me I catched on to things pretty fast. I had a lot of successes but also there were some challenges as well for me. One of the successes was learning to improve my writing to get better to type essays.
In one word I would describe sophomore year as resilience, since it was filled with numerous moments where it was good or bad outcomes. But the good outweighs the bad. I learned constantly going to my professors’ office aided in the lessening of unanswered question in the back of your mind. Then study groups have become my BFF for it has allowed myself to interact with some classmates that help me understand the concepts and I helped them as well. This succor my study skills to flourish so much.
I don’t consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something that I need to say that I can’t just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of what I have done that day. It’s not so much about my feelings. I don’t really like talking about my feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt.
