Have you ever done something and felt so confident about it and thought that you would do well but it turns out that, but it ends up that the result you would get is not what you got? I did I actually had to go through the whole process of getting better, I learned to grow gradually as a writer. When I first started writing wrote I earned As and Bs. Then I started the started the summer bridge program here at Washington Adventist University and found out that writing in High School is a lot different from college. It is even harder to write an essay because you have to be sure to add in enough details based on the topic and right when you think you are done you must check on grammarly to revise your essay and make sure you check your work. Or even the writing center but because it was a summer program so the writing center was not open at the moment. When I received my papers I learned how not …show more content…

I remember the first paper I received from this class I felt so confident about it I thought I nailed it and I was going to get an absolute A. Turns out that I ended up with an F I was so shocked that and there were so many notes and corrections. So I went my professor to ask him what is wrong with my essay and he said it was nice if I were still to be in High School, he told me what I needed to fix and it was a lot that I needed to work on mainly everything. I did it a second time again I received the same result and although I have fixed the minor problems as in grammar and punctuation but my essay was still too general my professor says.
I did the essay a third time after sitting down and listening to exactly what the professor wanted and he said the grammar and punctuation was fixed just make sure that I was less general. Make it seem as if you are writing from our own experience instead of talking about people in general but find or make up something. That is when it clicked because I had just gone through an experience in which would really help. All that I went through really helped and I ended up with getting a C but I accepted it and realized that it was my first essay and there would be more to come. As time went by I started getting better and better at my essays. Comes to my last essay that I just turned in not to long ago and ended up by receiving a B and I am happy with it because although I could have done a lot better, but I know where I came from and how I started. To know that I ended the semester with my final grade being a B I am proud of myself. Now that I know all my mistake I had made and learned from them and do better next

When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. In my past writing assignments it seemed to be that we were learning everything step by step, where as in college more is expected from me as a writer. As a high school student it was quite easy to push everything off till the last moment. Those two o'clock nights were very frequent when a six-page research paper was due the next day. As a college student the requirements are more challenging and not something that can be pushed back till the very last second. It seems strange to me that starting earlier for a college paper and working twice as hard on it, receiving a lower grade on it than I would have in high school is upsetting to think about, but is so true. When coming into the semester I was unaware of what was expected from me, but as the semester progressed I was able to get a better understanding of the course and how to look critically at myself as a writer. I know that these are qualities that I will use for many years to come.
Throughout my years in high school I have never been the best at writing. I have struggled and failed numerous times and I just didn 't think I would ever get any better when it came down to writing in my English classes. I always had to ask my parents to help me comprehend words, phrases and also how to pronounce certain words. For example my junior year of high school it was time to prepare ourselves for the SAT and ACT testing which are standardized tests that every student must take if they want to further their education in college. When I took the test for the first time I felt like I failed miserable because my score was so low. I received a 14 my very first time taking the ACT, and my lowest score was in reading. I was so embarrassed
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
My Growth as a Writer Most of us write in some form every day, so you would expect that most of us would be well practiced and pretty good at writing. I read and write all the time; I have taken several college courses and nearly all of them require writing in some form. However, before taking this class, not only was I not a good writer, I knew I wasn’t a good writer. Now I am not saying that I am ready to write my first novel, but I am certainly more confident in turning in my college papers. The content of this course and the style of teaching was incredibly beneficial to me.
When I read “Proficiency” by Shannon Nichols I really felt for her. I understood and resonated with her story perfectly, especially when she stated “After I failed the test the first time, I began to hate writing and I started to doubt myself. I doubted my ability and the ideas I wrote about.” (83). After I failed my writing assignment I was so embarrassed and didn’t want to write again but obviously, I had to. I always doubt the things I am going to say or which order I am going to organize the essay in. I try so hard to make sure all my sentences are cohesive and all my ideas connect to each other and the main concept but sometimes it just seems that when I keep messing with one little sentence or paragraph I just makes things worse.
I have never liked writing; I always thought it was a waste of time. It was a great therapy but I never found academic writing to be useful just tedious. Only ever writing when I had too made it harder for my writing skills to grow or improve in any way. I have not taken an English class since the 10th grade, even then I never gave it much effort, just doing what I had to so I could pass the class. Then I jump in to College English 1010, I feel like I do well in all other subjects but this one. English is my worst nightmare.
In order to help me with my grammar this time I decided to go to the Writing Center. The Writing Center was extremely helpful, they gave me tips and really helped revised my essay. I went to the writing center twice to get the most grammar check possible. However, I did do some changes in my essay after going so I believe that grammar errors might still be present. Next time I know that their services are great and I have to set up an appointment as soon as I can. When it comes to this essay I would give myself a C- cause I feel as if my essay might not had fulfilled full on the request on the prompt.The book was a bit difficult to explain even after I read and re-read the book at least twice. On my last essay I received a D, which I have to say threw me off. Throughout, much of my high school years as long as we had the point across the grammar was not very focused on which now I know it needs way more importance. In the feedback I was told that my essay as a matter a fact did accomplish the prompts request. Despite that, it had too many grammatical errors which caused my essay to get a bad
What are your strengths as a writer? My strengths as a writer include my creative side. When I have people read my work they are quick to mention that I am very creative. With my imagination, I seem to have no problem coming up with a story. Storylines and characterization are my strengths.
Over the course of this fall semester, my development as a writer have transformed positively. I feel more confident organizing my ideas because my literacy development has improved. Specific improvements that I can recall reflecting back to the three major assignments in this course are the thesis statement construction, forming my ideas together and write clear sentences. Another personal accomplishment would be the understanding and implementation of the rhetorical terms. Throughout my years in college, mainly I had struggle writing in English because English is my second language. However, I used all the tools and knowledge available resulting in a noticeable progress as a writer.
Many of life's lessons are learned through failure. To grow as an individual, a person must accept their failures and use them as learned tools to improve. My personal obstacle has been writing quality essays. Throughout my high school career, I struggled with writing papers. Perfecting my writing skills to years of practice and multiple failed attempts at writing. Failing High School paper helped me become a better writer and allowed me to learn myself.
Journal 1: 8/29 I define a writer as someone who is capable of writing real literature and making it understandable for the readers. I would not consider myself a writer. I don't really do any writing outside of school papers. I only write when it's necessary because I don 't find much enjoyment in it and I'm insecure about my writing skills.
I am not, by any means, a Shakespeare, Stephen King, or John Grisham. It would take enormous amounts of time, practice, and effort to be considered a long shot at a Pulitzer Prize. Yet, I intend to progress my writing by setting more achievable goals, building on new ideas, and developing new skills. Also, I will use the advice of instructors and peers, and draw from previous writing experiences to mold this and future writing experiences.
I have never had much confidence with my writing, but I always felt like I was strong at creating an argument and proving it, or telling a great story, whether it be fact or fiction. But it has been a challenge trying to stay organized in my writing, avoid wordiness, and keep my writing rational and not filled with too much emotion. The ebb and flow of my emotions can really deter me from staying focused on what I am writing. And sometimes that can really take you away from my point.
I don’t consider myself a very good writer. I write when I am made to or when I have something that I need to say that I can’t just tell someone. I keep a diary. Usually my diary is just a record of what I have done that day. It’s not so much about my feelings. I don’t really like talking about my feelings, usually because most of the time I am confused about what exactly I am feeling. I tend to keep the feelings that I do have to myself, to protect myself from getting hurt.
