VASJ is a place I always wanted to be at and from the start, I knew that I wanted to get involved. Starting with freshman year, I joined the basketball team. Last year I was on the freshman team and this year I'm on the JV team. Being apart of this team really helps me with leadership. Someone has to step up every practice to be the leader to keep that practice serious. I also joined the ambassadors group. Being apart of this is a great way to be the leaders of the school. We always have to make sure we are doing the right thing and that we are leading by example. In the beginning of this year, I went to the Alleluia Ball with current classmates. Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities including: National Honor Society, student council, National Council on Youth Leadership, student ambassador, drama club, yearbook, and chamber choir. It is throughout these activities that I have felt myself grow as a person and have found many opportunities to shine as a leader. The Burger King scholarship is an amazing opportunity and an extremely generous foundation. It is with the help of this foundation that allows for people to make their dreams come true. I am grateful to of been chosen as a Burger King Scholar and will use the scholarship to make a difference.
In sources of strength, the members are chosen as someone who would be a person anyone could come up and talk with if they were having a bad day. Also, as seniors we have two seventh grade kids that we mentor. I do this because I remember how hard it was being a seventh grader and not really knowing much about high school. Once a week we sit down and talk with the children. I always love the stories they have to tell and I truly feel blessed when I can help with anything they are struggling with. Whether that be something in school or something at home, it is so fulfilling talking with them. This activity has taught me what it means to give back to a school and to these kids who need my help. I love service and I spend a lot of time trying to help others with problems. Sources of strength has let me do just that. I have learned what it means to be a leader. This is a large responsibility I do not take lightly. I know the actions I do will have an effect on others, so I try to make sure those effects are positive at all
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
This is when I decided to try and become a member of the student council. I was elected and soon loved it. My school is very important to me and I wanted to do my very best to make it the best possible high school experience for not only me, but every student that attends White Bear Lake. I found that was helpful to have many different views on the council, and I think I brought a new view that was not accounted for before. Being a hockey captain my senior year, I was elected to be in Leadership Academy. This group meets and talks about how to most effectively lead our sports teams as well as the school. This is very important to me because as a leader I want to set the best example possible for my peers and this group allows me to improve my leadership skills to make them even better. I value this program very much because I think it will help me to succeed in the future, because these skills are lifelong skills to have. I have also became a math tutor for my classmates. Being a tutor is very important to me because it allows me to share my knowledge and help
I aspired to play a significant leadership role in all of the activities someday, and over the course of my high school career, I thankfully have. This year as a senior, the student body elected me as the president of Student Council; members of National Honor Society (NHS) did the same; future business leaders elected me as the vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); and I received the votes to secure the office of secretary in the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. Coaches and teammates have named me as an important asset as well. College is a time for young people to develop and grow not only in their education, but social aspects as well. One of the biggest social scenes found around college campuses are athletic events, but where would these college sports be without their dedicated athletes? Student athletes get a lot of praise for their achievements on the field, but tend to disregard the work they accomplish in the classroom. Living in a college environment as a student athlete has a great deal of advantages as well as disadvantages that affect education and anti-intellectualism.
It was a sad day nothing could make me happy anymore. I had been sad from the first moment I read the paper. I kept reading the list I must have read it at least ten times. Over and over again kept seeing the same names. None of the names were mine. I had finally realized I did not make the team. I was heartbroken all I have ever wanted just slipped out of my grasp. “It’s ok you’ll make it next year”, said my friend Warren. But what he couldn’t understand was that I wanted it to happen that year. I wanted to make the basketball team that year.
This Corps has instilled in me Integrity and to give my all at that I do. Douglas Jrotc has done so much for despite my speech ( which will indeed get better). In this High School there is only a few things I actually care about, Which are my academics, Sports, and Jrotc. The Corps has helped me find a better crowd and I now do better

Ollie Edmunds scholars, I have become a member of Toastmaster’s, and I am an AKPsi Associate member. I also currently work as a licensed Realtor. In high school, I was a team leader for Josiah Venture over two summers where I helped run English camps in Estonia, a two-sport captain, and a member of the Antioch21 Church leadership team. I have also completed trainings with Teenpact and RYLA leadership
Over the four years that I have spent at Good Counsel, I became part of many activities. Each helping me evolve as a person and become stronger yet. Simple lists could be made of every activity that I have ever been involved in but it could never express to a person what I have learned and how it helped me to grow. Every environmental club, science club, political science club, service work, and S.A.D.D. club I was part of had a very special message to deliver to me. Whether the message was one of responsibility, or a life lesson, I grew from it. The Political Science club opened me to many new experiences. It allowed me the chance to attend the Model U.N., where I was asked to address today's top world issues. This club was very beneficial to me because I was exposed to topics and ideas that I had not previously been able to discuss or learn about in a classroom situation. The science club allowed for me to experience extra educational situations as well. I took part in a hovercraft competition, which was very educational while also allowing me the chance to work with others for a common goal.
My service hours, pushing Jalen around, has remarkably impacted my life. This year I have helped Jalen around campus. Joseph, Anould, Jalen and I have become very good friends just because I helped push him around school.
Service hours are extremely significant in order to gain necessary skills that will help an individual in the future. It is rather difficult to decide where to volunteer due to the various options on campus and within the community. I have chosen to do my service hours through College Mentors for Kids on campus at Ball State University. I have been involved with this organization for three semesters and I am hoping to expand my leadership role in the future. College Mentors for Kids connects college students with elementary students who need it the most. This organization creates a brighter future for young individuals and gives all students hope in life!
By leading and participating in service learning projects such as a JROTC Blood Drive, I am able to provide service to others, integrate lessons learned in JROTC, and gather new insights due to my participation in the service learning project.
When you think of basketball you think of a pretty simple sport. The game has its sets of formal rules and regulations that are governed by the AAA, NCAA and NBA. No matter what level you play, the game will be relatively the same. In a formal game or even just a pick up game in a gym, the game is the same. That’s not the case with pick up basketball at a city park though. Depending where you live, every court has its own guidelines. You wouldn’t think that a game of basketball could change so drastically but it can. Park pick up ball is rougher, less honest, gets done faster but has a much slower pace. Park ball isn’t even really about basketball; it’s about feeling apart of something, feeling young and feeding your ego.
I would attend the school pep rallies, football games, join the school powerlifting club, and school dances like Homecoming and Prom. Although these annual school events were fun and memorable, volunteering for community service hours holds a special relationship with me. It helped me realize my passion for helping people in a socially and physical way. This passion accompanied with my hobby of exercising led me to pursue the career of a physical therapist. In general, the experiences and lessons that I’ve adopted in American Canyon High School was truly life changing, and I’m grateful for it everyday.
