As a high school student, my essays were not perfect, but it was decent enough to get a good grade. Although I hate writing, I feel that since I'm taking a College English course now, I should improve my writing. So far I will say that my essay is uninspired, have grammar, and punctuation problems.Every time I look over my paper when I get them back, I found that there were lousy diction and rushed. But it's me to blame, so from now on I will try to broaden my word choices and also put more effort in my writing by being creative.
Also, I can say I learn some things that can help me improve my writing in my College English class. I’ve learned that the revising process can help you out a lot in improving your writing. It helps you by showing
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become a better writer and my improved writing skills are shown within each essay.
this area but I’m going to improve on it. The process of using multiple drafts has
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. Throughout my college experience I have acknowledge that
When I began this course, I was overconfident in my writing abilities and when I submitted my first essays I did not expect to receive the grades that I did. This helped to open my eyes that my writing style was inadequate and that I need to improve in order to succeed in this class. I would improve through the use of consistent formatting and fixing missing or incorrect aspects of previous essays, such as in formatting. It would overall contribute to growing improvement over the year.
I was never a person that liked to write essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays and specially because I was learning new things while writing them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are not to wait till the last three or four days before I turn my essay in to start doing it. Another thing I will do is if I forget how to do something or about some rule in the common errors I made I will just go back to all the lessons I printed out to have as reference. I think those will help me allot. And one last thing I will do to improve my writing is to try my best not to confuse all those words I got confused. I will do my best to learn each word and its rule of where it goes so I won’t have the same mistakes I had this semester.
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
Throughout the course I was taking in writing argumentative essays I have improved my writing in many ways. While having classes and doing assignments I have reflected on my writing style and tried to have an insight on my work and result is the difference between my first and third essay. I have tried to enhance my writing technically and in style. Throughout the course the main technique I learned is that how to make a strong topic sentence. To start my essay with a sentence which gives a specific sense about what essay actually conveys.
I selected paragraph writing for this writing selection because I would like to reflect on my areas of weakness and how I improved as a writer. To be honest, I prefer writing a paragraph because it’s short compared to writing an essay. However, I struggle to write a paragraph. When given a topic and asked to write a paragraph long, I have a lot to say but couldn’t summarize the whole topic. That is, I get too wordy when it comes to details, which in fact, I find it hard to get straight to the point. Indeed, I’m a very detailed person, but this writing piece challenged me how to improve my summarization. As a writer, writing is always been a challenge no what matter what type of writing piece it could be. I started writing when I was very young
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
Before taking English 1A, I was a discouraged writer because as an English learner, I did not believe that I had any ability to be an acceptable writer. Therefore, I did not have any joy while I was doing writing assignments. However, I have gradually loved writing through this semester. I fortunately got plenty of helps from my classmates and professor; thus, my writing skills have gotten improved a lot. I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition.
During this semester in LLD class, I have learned some writing skills and reading skills from the textbook “College Writing Skills,” and written three essays which helped me improve my reading and writing skills. Grammar is the rule of word and sentence, which means that put the right word into the appropriate position to make it become a complete sentence. In addition, this book tells us that the most important problem is to avoid having grammatical errors in the essay, that will make reader misunderstand the sentence 's meaning. The prompt titles of my three essays are “Today, Courtesy Isn’t Common, But Hatred Is” by T. T. Nhu, “In Defense of Materialism During This Busy Holiday Season” by Jay Ambrose, and “When All You’re Ever Wanted Wasn’t Enough” by Harold Kushner.
