Community service has taught me all kinds of skills and increased my confidence. You go out there and think on your feet, work with others and create something from nothing that’s what life’s is all about. The community service that I did is YWCA Daycare. I chose that because I like kids also it makes me a responsible person. Like playing with children and making them laugh because I have a little sister whos 4months and I love spending time with her. My expectation before doing the service were that I wasn’t sure where I was going to do them I went to libraries but, they never called me and that got me worried. I tried not to get worried I was confident that I will find a place where they will accept me. I was calling to different body shops …show more content…
and they had someone already but I remembered there was a daycare close by my house. I decided to call and ask if I could do my services and they said yes. In YWCA Daycare I helped out to take care of kids, teach them learn there ABC’s, colors, rules, and animal names. It really helps them to get ready to go to school. I took care of babies and two years old. I would sit in a table and play games with them. I can’t really remember what type of game we played but it comes with four tubes and four different colors like green, orange, red, and yellow. Each children would pick whatever color they like and put them in the small tube by counting the small balls that they put in and would ask them what color was it and how many there was in the tube. Also, I would be in the office cutting white paper because they needed paper to prink out surveys opening doors to the parents since its electrical. I would organized paperwork like for an example attendance , serperate each ages which was a stack, and would give out signing sheets to the parents. I started doing my services on November 3, 2015 and finished it on November 17,2015. I went on Tuesdays because we come out of school early and I get enough time to eat and get ready and get there at 3:30pm and come out at 5:30pm that’s the time they close. I would be with this lady who’s in the office and would tell me on what they needed help on. How it started is I called YWCA Daycare and asked if I could do my services and they said yes and how old was I, I said 17 and she said okay to go before 5pm so she can tell me when should I start. Right afterschool I asked my mom if she can take me to the YWCA daycare so they tell me what day do i start and she said yes once I got there I went in and told them I called earlier about doing my services and she said oh yeah when do you want to start I said Tuesday because I get out of school mostly at 2pm she said okay its fine next Tuesday on November 3 at 3:30-5:30pm and I said thank you. She wrote on her calendar that I was going to be there at that day in case if she’s not there the other person who’s there would know. When it was that day I got there on time before 3:30pm so they could think I’m responsible and not like others that don’t really care and don’t get there on time. They got to know me and were pleasure to meet me and help them out. They started asking me questions like what made me come there and I told them because I love kids and I like playing with them and said you will get along with them. They showed me where the kids are at and there separated by ages like 1years old in one room, 2years old , and 3 years old. I went to there backyard where the playground is. Kids have schedule like they pick which sections they want to be in I mean like being on computers, playing games, reading, drawing ,or being in the kitchen set or outside in the playground. Its really beautiful inside and huge. I got attached by a 2year old which she’s so adorable and nice. On November 17 it was my last day well my 2 hours left, it went pretty good learned a lot from there how like the governor pays the daycare if the parents can’t afford where to leave there child. Im glad there’s something like that because there’s a lot of parents that are working and have nowhere to take them. It helped the community of YWCA because they needed someone to help them do paperwork, organized stuff , and take care of the kids because they don’t really have that much of helpers.
There like all over the place and they needed someone to be in the office but I was there to help them. Even though I wasn’t able to answer calls because im underage. It also takes money to hire many people to do work, by me volunteering the community saves money that can be saved to spend on important things like supplies for the daycare and etc. It can also make a difference. This helps us better to understand our own competence. Also, volunteering provides valuable community services to spent the money on local improvements. It helps save resources because now for volunteering it’s $15 dollars per hour. Supports families too. What appears to be an issue in our society is that there’s not enough people to help many kids. So each person could pay attention to the kids cause one person can’t take many kids to the bathroom and since there small I’m guessing there going to need help so I recommend to be more people. In this way, they can pay attention on some kids and the other person with the others like team work I’ve experienced it it’s not easy. The only reason I believe this has been an issue in our society because there’s not enough money to pay for a lot of people who are helping out. I know that the government helps but what about other
daycares. The solution I saw is like I said not enough people to help, be in the office , in a room cutting paper or printing paper. If I was working there I would help them because I know many of my family members and friends that need’s a job and since they also like kids they can help. There will be enough people to help. In different rooms. I would say the governor should know about this issue so he can solved it. It was worth experience it because I’ve never been in a daycare and I learned so many things in there. Since my friend needs one more year to graduate I recommend her to do the same thing as me it’s not that hard. She also loves taking care of kids I think she will love it. I was thinking of working there in that daycare because it’s my passion and would like to take care of kids to get them ready to go to school. I asked in YWCA if I could work there once I graduate and they said yes I just can’t wait to go back in there and help. It definitely ties with the quote I wrote in the beginning because its true your on your own none to help you and think to yourselve, have to work with people ,and pretty much doing it for free.
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
Community service means helping people who are in need and not excepting anything in return. It is very important because it teaches you how to work with different people and it helps you and the person you are helping. There are always places in the community that are in need of volunteers. The organization I chose to volunteer at was BAPS, also known as Bochasan Vasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha.
Tutoring kids is one type of community service. I can say from experience teaching kids to learn is a great feeling. I know because I’ve been tutoring kids for almost seven months. You’ll be surprised how it makes you feel. To have one of your students’ parents thank you because there child has never been able to make an “A” in there reading or math class. Just hearing those words lets me know that I am already making a difference. The place that I volunteer at is Casa De Amigos and the children that go there really look up to you. Yes you’re helping them to be able to reach their goals but you’re also teaching them that helping the community can change so many lives.
I performed my community service at a local elementary school. I chose this place because of its relative ease, and it was also an area I could easily get to and from. I started my first day very confused and out of character. The school was very bland, and it brought back memories of the time that I had attended elementary school.
I had to plan fun events, but also make them very inexpensive. This was an
Community service is a good thing to get involved in because it teaches you that giving back to the community is very helpful and everyone appreciates it. It is very easy, all you have to do is go there and people will tell you what to do and these tasks are simple. When I volunteered to be part of the soup dinner I was nervous at first, but after a little bit I was completely fine. Everyone at the church was really nice and they appreciated the help a lot. All I had to do was put food on tables for people that came in and go get food when they were out.
Community service is a voluntary, unpaid act of kindness that an individual perform to benefit and help others who are in need. It is important for individuals to do community services. It is not only about helping the community but, also making a difference in someone’s life. It can help a person grow and build connections mentally, physically, and emotionally. Mentally, a person who does community service is able to change their perspective of the world and appreciate the things they have. Physically, it can help a person be more motivated and explore what is going on in their community. Emotionally, it can help a person feel kindness therefore, it can also help an individual interact with others, build a relationship, and further their communication. Participating in community service can help a person become more active and involved in their community, it can also build your work related skills and make you gain experience to network with future employers and companies. Community Service helps an
In order to fulfill the 12 hours of community service requirement for Nutrition course 139 I applied with five organizations on the approved list. The organization that replied me the fastest was Open Heart Kitchen, they mostly operate in Pleasanton and Livermore areas. Their application and signing up for shift process gives a feeling that this organization is massive, and many individuals really care about the less fortunate. From observation and conversations with the site supervisor, I believe this organization relies on individual donations, small business donations and large corporate donations such as Safeway and Walmart. This organization also relies on volunteers to work every day, they get workers from students fulfilling their hours and resume, individuals fulfilling court orders, and those that just want to help the less fortunate.
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
Caring for the elderly is an activity that requires patience, willingness, due diligence and effective co-ordination of resources in order to optimally benefit the recipients. Community services and programs is one such avenue that caters for the elderly by providing for their mental, physical, social and emotional well-being, and by extension promotes a greater quality of life. Community services help meet the needs of the elderly and attract older people who face barriers to active living. One strong advocate of community based services and a program for the elderly is the American Association of Retired People (AARP) who relentlessly seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle for people 50 years and over.
As a young 21-year-old woman I am determined to make a difference in this world that will aid in my generation, and those that follow. Within the past two years I have had an increasing interest in gardening and environmental stewardship. During the summer of 2016, I volunteered on an organic farm where I learned how to properly work with real and nutritious food. Here I was able to progress my understandings in how to efficiently use farmland, rotate crops, harvest properly, and manage weeds organically. All of this work was then returned by the earth through an abundance of fruits and vegetables that I, and the other members on the farm, ate everyday to sustain our bodies.
4. As an orientation leader for the summers of 2015 and 2016, I acclimated and welcomed over 3,000 new students to the University of Rhode Island. This was accomplished by activities I facilitated on academic preparation, diversity training, community building, and alcohol and drug awareness. Being a resource for these students and providing a perspective for them, as well as recognizing their own individual identities taught me multicultural competency.
What community service means to me is helping someone without expecting anything in return. Community service helps you to gain skills and knowledge, as well as, providing a helping hand to others that need extra help because they can’t do it alone. It makes you feel good knowing you helped others in your community whether it’s cleaning up in a classroom at your school or going to a senior citizen's home and helping there. No matter what you do it will always affect your community, good or bad. There are many different benefits that come out of doing community service, a few of them are psychological, social, and cognitive benefits.
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
