My lesson learned story is going to be about my first time ever going to jail. It happened in the summer of my senior year at the end of June. It all started one day after football practice when i got home and some friends ask before I left practice did I wanted to go hoop today when I get home and I replied saying “yea”. So when I got home to get dress, i left to go meet them at a friend house but before I got there it was a altercation with me and this guy name krit which was the neighborhood barber. The fight started because I was walking out the house and seen some people at the pool but I kept walking and seen krit and some other people getting out the pool throwing the football. So I asked them to throw the ball to me and when they threw it I decided to not catch but as soon I tried to pick it up he grab me while he was still wet from the pool. I reacted by pushing him off me and when I did that he thought I was trying to swing on him. So he got made and decided to talk shit to me and when he did that, I started talking shit back to him. Then that’s when he pushed …show more content…
me and I pushed him back but the whole time we was shoving each other the police officer was sitting in the parking lot watching us the whole time. Before the police or anybody else could say anything to stop us, he pushed me in to some mud and got my socks and slippers all muddy.
When he did that I just snap and punch him twice in the face. After I hit him, he started swing back at me but before he could land a punch the police yelled “stop’!! we stop while he call back up to arrest us and he was asking how old were we and we told him our ages and he replied saying “ oh going to the big house” as soon as I heard that I realized that I had just made the dumbest decision by getting in to this fight with kirt and I wasn’t going to no juvenile jail either. When he got done talking to us, he put us in the car and took us to the holding cell to get our information. While they were doing that me and krit was talking and realize that we had a misunderstanding about the whole thing. Now we feel pretty stupid that we put our self in this
situation. When they finally finish the paper work on us they told us to get in a van and took us to the Rankin county jail. The officer then took to the front desk, where we gave them our fingerprint and had to take mug shot. Finish that and told us we had to stay in there for four days. As them four days went by, the only thing I could think about was that we could have find a different way to solve that problem instead of fighting. During them four days it made me realize to be thankful and graceful for all the things I have at the house and appreciate my family and things I get or have. When my four days was finally done, they took us to court to plead guilty or not guilty. I pled guilty and with that I was put on a one year probation and just finish it this pass summer. Even though we went to jail for something stupid it thought me a real good lesson and that’s not to let your ague get you in trouble and destroy your life over something simple.
When an offender is sentenced to imprisonment, post sentencing considerations must be made based on an evaluation of the individual and this will determine the manner in which the prison sentence is served. Post sentencing considerations include security classifications, parole and continued detention orders. These offer different levels of incapacity, accessibility of rehabilitation programs and incentives for good behaviour, and are implicated in order to achieve justice through upholding the rights of the victim, the offender and the wider community.
How people mature into grownups is directly affected by the moments they experience as children and young adults. Most of what children learn happens at home through their parents. Estimates indicate that more than 1.3 million children in the United States have mothers who are in jail, prison, or on parole, and most affected children are less than 10 years old (Mumola as cited in; Poehlmann). That information leads into the research question, what are the effects incarcerated mothers have on their children? Do those children develop and mature just as their peers do? I hypothesize that: the offspring of incarcerated mothers are more at risk for intellectual problems than their peers.
Parental incarceration and its reoccurring effects on children, specifically in the system, is a rising issue with little research done and no current solution to halt the snowballing problem. According to Cynthia Seymour (1998), “current estimates indicate that as many as 1.5 million children have an incarcerated parent; many thousands of others have experienced the incarceration of a parent at some point in their lives”. A large portion of our country is effected by incarceration, especially children, yet nothing is being done to support these children and their families or caretakers.
Living in a prison for a long time becomes difficult for all inmates especially those who are mentally ill face stress when their environment suddenly becomes bars, harsh lights, and super maximum strict schedules. The inmates are forced to face the strict policies and conditions of custody in order to survive in the prison. These prolonged adaptations to the hardship and frustrations of life inside prison lead to certain psychological changes. Most of this inmates find it difficult to adjust in accordance with the prison rules. They get in trouble for destroying state property
Prison Guards, also acknowledged as correctional officers, are employees of the government and are responsible for the monitoring the inmates of a jail or prison. People see jails and prisons reenacted on the television, but the way they portray the facilities does not compare to how they are in real life. In television shows, it seems as if the building runs itself. The inmates stay inside the walls, and do whatever they feel like doing. This, however, is not how jails/prisons work. Having correctional officers is crucial for the upkeep of prisons and jails. One of a correctional officer’s main jobs is to validate that all of the inmates are safe and accounted for, and that the prison facilities are hygienic and under control.
I want to be a good role model for my little cousins and for them to be able to look up to me. I dislike that my mother is wondering how she could have done something different so that I would not have acted the way I did and done the things that I did, it is not her fault. My family is also disappointed in me because I was their little girl that never did anything wrong and all of a sudden I am being arrested for trespassing. Disappointing your family is one of the worst feelings I can imagine and makes me regret my actions. Not only is my family affected but also my friends. They are now seen as associates with a criminal and it ruins their reputation as well. In my case, my best friend was with me when the trespassing occurred so her family, friends, and reputation are also affected. Some people or friends might say that it is cool to have been arrested but it is nowhere close to cool. I am ashamed of my actions and just going through the process of being arrested and booked scared me half to death. Sitting in a cell, crying and shaking, having no idea of how you are going to tell your mother and just being scared is not cool. Doing something wrong is not
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines Probation as a period of time given to someone who commits a crime and instead of being incarcerated are allowed to spend their sentence in the community based on conditions set aside by the courts. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/probation) The task was given to me to build the ultimate model of Probation Services. After careful consideration and great thought this is the route I decided to take. I believe that parents play a great role in some of the decisions their children make. The decisions children make today are a reflection of their parents. My focus on this probation model is to place both child and parent in an institution were they would undergo a period of restoration of family values, rehabilitation, parenting courses, academia and counselling. The ages of these juveniles will range between the ages of ten (10) to seventeen (17) years old. Therefore I stand for institutionalized probation and how this probation will assist in instilling family values.
The prison system in the United States was not always like it is today. It took mistakes and changes in order to get it to the point it is at. Some people think that prisons should still be being changed while others feel that they are fine the way they are. It is hard to make an argument for one side or the other if one does not know about the history of prisons as well as the differences between prisons structures and differences in prison management. Knowledge of private prisons is also needed to make this difficult decision.
There are many things that will affect you in prison. I’m going to give you several facts about how it will. My first topic is physical health. At the time of prison release, one half of men and two thirds of women reported having been diagnosed with a chronic physical health condition. Physical health status was assessed by asking respondents to note those conditions that a doctor or nurse had diagnosed them with. Table 3 shows full range of conditions that respondents were asked about their self-reported rates of illness for comparison purpose, these are displayed alongside national prevalence estimates for correctional populations developed by the National Commission on Correctional Health care. Asthma hepatitis infection
The overall goal of correctional facilities can be broken down into three main functions which are retribution, deterrence, and rehabilitation of the inmates. Today, there is much debate on rather private or public prison admiration is best to suit those goals. In a private prison the inmates are contracted out to a third party from either local, state, or federal government agencies (Smith 2012). Public prisons are where the government themselves house and supply the inmate’s basic needs with no third party involved. However, a large portion of the argument of private verses public prisons is over, which is best in achieving those goals more efficiently.
for youngsters who have a long history of convictions for less serious felonies for which the juvenile court disposition has not been effective” (qtd. in Katel).
In the previous years the number of incarcerated women have increased drastically. According to the authors the recent change in arrest patterns could be because of the constructionist approach which focuses on shifts in law enforcement practices or other mechanisms of crime control to explain changes in arrest patterns.” (Schwartz, Steffensmeir & Feldmeyer, Pg.9) According to Beth Richie, “ women constitute a small fraction of the total population but the number of women incarceration rates are growing more significantly then their male counterparts… Women constituted for 16% of all people detained in correctional facilities.” (Beth Richie, Pg.2) Compared to why men are put in prison majority of women are put in prison because of drug offenses,
...o our red van not saying a word to me. On the drive home she gave me my punishment. The punishment was that I was to be grounded for an entire month, and reap the consequences with the law. I ended up sitting in my house for the first month of summer and losing two-hundred and eighty dollars, which was my fine for stealing.
The corrections program was similar to law enforcement, so I switched to the correction alternative because I still wanted to be associated with law enforcement. I was hired on at a juvenile detention center as a juvenile correction officer. I thought that this was my opportunity to do something to help these kids, don't get me wrong I did not think I could help or save the world, I just thought I would or could make a difference in one life that it was all worth the hassle. Well I was wrong, my first day of on the job training we had to restrain a kid who was out of control, it only got worse from there on. It seemed like an everyday occurrence in this place; the kids were ok most of the time, but it only took one kid in a bad mood to set the other 40 kids off then it turns into a big problem.
A critical issue, perhaps most injurious to our futures, involves the criminal tendencies of our youth. Juvenile delinquency is without a doubt one of the most crucial topics that we face in our society today. Children and teens do not only shape our future, but will also pave the footsteps for future generations. What prompts this criminal behavior? And why is the proportion of delinquents in society seemingly increasing? As we will see, many factors play a role in molding personality; these factors include gender, family, and schools.
