The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award a girl scout can earn. It is a project based on service to one’s community with an emphasis on leadership and making a lasting impact. I recently became a recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award. My project was centered around soccer. Throughout this project, I feel as though I got to know my community better. It feels good to know that I made an impact on my community and that the children living here will benefit from it. Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
I’m so happy to be given the opportunity to join National Junior Honor Society(NJHS). I would love to be a member. I think it is important for kids to be involved in the community. Also, myself personally it would be an honor to be a face for our school.
I volunteer in a lot of activities, especially considering I am a girl scout. We organize many drives for things such as food and sports equipment and everybody enjoys themselves while doing it. I volunteer at church sometimes, contributing my time to making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the hungry, instead of doing pointless things at home. Being a good person isn’t just about being kind to everyone around you. You have to put those great things about you into use and help your community. That’s what makes you a great choice for the National Junior Honor Society.
Being proud of something can have many different meanings to people, but to me, it means to be honored and to be glad that something happened. I am proud about many things in my life but one thing I am extremely proud of is my induction into the NJHS. NJHS stands for National Junior Honor Society.
As girls grow in life, they mature and change into women. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Scout, the main character, begins to mature into a woman. In the beginning of the book, she is a tomboy who cannot wait to pick a fistfight with anyone, but at the end, she lowers her fists because her father, Atticus, tells her not to fight. Scout’s views of womanhood, influenced by how Aunt Alexandra, Miss Maudie, and Calpurnia act, make her think more about becoming a woman and less of a tomboy.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
In this effort, I serve the community by making an effort to keep the people in it healthier. Lastly, I show service to my school through the help I provided while in the National Junior Honor Society. As a member of NJHS I helped our middle school begin a recycling program; I helped get the recycling boxes and bins ready, gather paper from around the school, and sort the paper after school. Through this I show a dedication to my school and community, because not only does recycling help the school reduce waste but it also allows the environment resources to last longer. For these reasons, I am an excellent, determined, helpful member, who is more than willing to provide service to my school and community.
With the help of the Me To We team at Queen Street Public School, I volunteered at a local food bank. The experience was quite educational and fascinating. We encouraged staff and students to donate non-perishable food items for the "We Scare Hunger" campaign. This was definitely a highlight of my grade five year because I felt very humble and warm-hearted by doing a simple act of kindness. In addition, I was chosen to participate in the "Intergenerational" program. This was created so that grade five students can learn more from the elders of the Burton Manor senior home. We had the privilege to learn about their history and interact with them through several educational and fun activities. If accepted, I will indeed join several clubs and teams to contribute my time and talents to make the school an exciting learning
The most honorable experience that I have had is working on my Eagle Scout project. I learned how to become a better leader, tackle difficult situations and how to work with others. All of these skills helped me be a better person.
I am Jacob Heeter, member of Troop 56, from Knox, PA. I did my Eagle Scout Project making a handicap accessible walkway from the road to the building at Camp Coffman, Cranberry, PA. I have many ambitions after becoming an Eagle Scout, based around short term goals, after graduation, and career choices.
Throughout the fall semester I did community service at a thrift shop and soup kitchen in Lawrence. There I experienced things I have never encountered before in my life. These experiences have taught me a lot, and have truly made me look at America's underprivileged, in a new light.
I am most proud earning my Girl Scout Gold Award for informing 1,000,000 people about Trisomy X.
I can also make a difference in the community where I live. Last year my class held a car wash to raise money for the Animal Shelter. We went to visit the dogs there and I realized that the money we raised made a difference for some of them.
On October 31, 1860, a girl named Juliette Gordon was born. She was just an ordinary girl with five siblings and a loving family. She went to school like everyone else, and she was even given a cute nickname “Daisy” when she was young. Fifty-two years later, however, she would be more than just a normal girl. Juliette would create an important organization that gave girls the opportunity to be active in their community: the Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts was started in 1912 in Juliette’s hometown of Savannah, Georgia because “’she believed that all girls should be given the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually’” and starting a female equivalent of the Boy Scouts was exactly how she planned to accomplish that (Amandolare 1).
I give back to others and the community by being involved in a lot of different groups. Being involved with FFA we take time and do community projects that people ask us to do for them. We have put in concrete driveways and sidewalks for different people in the community and they always have great things to say about our work. Another thing I help with by being a part of FFA that has done for the community is that we have cleaned up the local park’s basketball/tennis court when it flooded and the court had a lot of mud, rocks, and sticks all over the court. One other thing we have done in FFA is varnish the cabins in the local park. Last year we also helped out with the new daycare they were setting up for the community, we helped build the parking lot and put the fence in around the daycare. Also, to help out the community our baseball team has helped out put up flags within the cemetery for memorial day.
